Hi everyone.

You can Track, Record, view Plates, etc. using an app. called Avare interfaced via gpsout, Bluetooth, to your FS9, the app also works with, FSX and xConn, not described here.

You can download all the Avare related apps here:

http://mamba.dreamhosters.com/share/

and the GpsOut here:

If interested read the details below, and if you have any questions, post here. TV

Avare to MSFS9 Interface / communicate via Bluetooth (BT).

MSFS9.1 and Avare 7.1.8, tested with AvareAddon / IO ver. 3.0.7 and AvareBluetooth 1.0.3 (others should work).

Note: Use at your own risk. If you are Not familiar / comfortable with the Control Panel / Device Manager, try the Quick / Condensed method only, this should work after, "Make BT available to GPSout", method complete, and as long as your BT COM ports remain the same, the PC is not rebooted.

Set up used:

Hardware: Tested in PC System, Win7 Pro 64, (3-9-2016)

Assus Bluetooth (BT), Standard Serial over Bluetooth link COM5 Incoming, port set to: 9600,8,None,1,None Driver: Atheros Communications, Ver. 7.2.0.65 on Location: Port_#0007.Hub_#0004, Address:(00:26:83:38:15:7E).

Samsung Tab3: Android 4.2.1. Avare Ver. 7.1.8 AvareAddon / IO ver. 3.0.7 and AvareBluetooth 1.0.3 (others should work).

PC Software: MSFS9.1, GPSout version 2.60 by Pete Dowson, installed in the C?:\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Modules, with the following Settings: Sentences=RMC,GGA, Interval=1000, Port=COM5 (Incoming) (Note: change to Match what is shown in your Device Manager for your Incoming / Bluetooth port), Speed=9600, PosTo6Decimal=No, SimModeIndicator=No.

Note: The following steps may not be needed for some systems / configurations, or after you have the COM port set up, Incoming, I was not able to get a stable handshake without performing the MUST DO steps. With the above setup I was not able to send data to the COM port without having to do the following:

Condensed version, for users familiar with Device Manager.

1- In the PC, Dev Manager, Bluetooth (BT) Disable, Restart PC, Turn BT on, in Show BT Devices, remove device (Tablet) you will use with Avare.

3- In Tablet, Disable your BT, Start Avare bluetooth, Enable Pairing> Yes.

4- In the PC and Tablet Add and Pair your just removed device, (see details below if not familiar).

5- In your PC, Verify GPSout.ini has the proper settings, match your Com, etc..., see below, Start FS9 and wait until aircraft is on the airport / rwy.

6- In Tablet Send Avare Bluetooth to background (BG) / Home, Start Avare, No to GPS, Navigate Mode, and send to BG / Home, Start Avare IO select BT and your PC, Connect, you should see data, Lat Long etc. streaming. Send Avare IO to BG / Home, re enable Avare.

7- Fly the Sim.

Detailed version:

In your PC:

1- Pair your PC with your Android device, Verify you can transfer a file and verify the proper COM Ports exist, (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound see pic.), your Com Nrs. may be different but in the final set up you should have a COM port Incoming..

In the PC, you will get a message no Com port, select OK. In the lower right, hidden icons, BT icon grayed out, will ask to turn BT on, OK it, select Show BT Devices, RC on present Tablet and select Remove Device>Yes.

In the PC, Add a Device, your Tablet should show up, select it, Pin ID will appear, select Next.

In Tablet select tap, OK to accept.

In your PC, Verify GPSout.ini has the proper settings, your Com, etc..., see below, Start FS9 and wait until aircraft is on the airport / rwy.

In Tablet re Start Avare bluetooth, Enable Pairing> Yes press Home to send Avare bluetooth to the background.

Hi Col.

A second screen is a good setup, but you will not be able to get your Plates, and other things used in the Real world aviation, or carry your monitor in your plane,.

Using the sim with Avare is useful to others that want to practice, and use the sim, as real world practice.

The sim can be a very useful tool to stay current. When you can interface it to an app that you can use in real flying it can help you by knowing how to use that app, by having used before and getting familiar before the actual real flight.

Somewhat of a different use than a second monitor, but if you are happy with what you have, you will not need this.

This would be more for Real world Pilots, that intend to use Avare in a real flight. TV

  • 1 year later...

I have a video on how to install the Avare app for Android for both FS2004 and FSX. Give it a look. I use it all the time for VFR general aviation flight.
