CapitanFuturo
Hello, I am running fSX with UTX and GEX, I am moving to P3D and decided to get a dedicated SSD for it. Do I need to re-install UTX and GET also on the new drive or can they stay un-touched on the original drive with windows? Thanks Nic Windows 7 Home Professional (x64) Service Pack 1, Asus P8Z77-V, Intel Core I7 3770K 3.50 Ghz, 16 GB, PC3-memory, Asus Radeon HD 7970, Samsung 840 Pro Series 256 GB, S-ATA III. vgbaron
You need to get the P3D versions of both UTX and GEX. Gex can be installed outside of the P3D drive but UTX needs to be in the P3D folder. CapitanFuturo
You need to get the P3D versions of both UTX and GEX. Sorry but what do you meant to get the right version? My plan was to buy P3D v3 Academic license for $59 Would this not work? You will have to get the P3D V3 compatible versions of GEX and UTX respectively. Don't know if they have all been updated yet though.
CapitanFuturo
and which version is this? Will the Prepar3D v3 Academic License do? vgbaron
yes - the P3D Academic license for Version 3 and yes you will have to get NEW versions of GEX and UTX which are compatible with V3. The GEX product for P3D is a world wide product called GEXP3D. The GEX for FSX is sold by areas. The UTX product is sold by areas. alverthein
CapitanFuturo I believe the addons you mention are payware.and my experience is the addon asks you which sim you want it installed into and just click on P3D(assuming when the addon comes out) and then sit back and let it do its thing....al v
evm
and which version is this? Will the Prepar3D v3 Academic License do? This is not about P3D. The UTX and GEX that you currently have are for FSX and they are not compatible with P3D V3, no matter which license.
alverthein
Hey Vic...is GEX and UTX compatible with ORBX? or they necessary if ORBX is already in place with V3 in P3D? thanks..al v
vgbaron
Al - UTX is compatible - GEX is not as they do the same thing. So you can have UTX with EITHER GEX or ORBX ( FTX Global) P3D Rig I7 7700K @ 5.0ghz Asus Maximus X270 16G G.Skill 3600 15-15-15-18 2T EVGARTX2080ti Corsair 1000W PSU 1TB Samsung SSD for P3D - 2 - 256G OCZ Vector SSD - HAF X - Corsiar H100i V2 Liquid Cooler W10 64 Pro. mallcott
So as to be clear. UTX has a couple of updates available to make it suitable for P3D (all versions). GEX produce a specific global product for P3D. Neither of the FSX versions of the software will work in P3D directly. For P3D3 note that neither product complies with the addon installation recommendations made by L-M. I say this as if you purchase now, today then P3D v3.0 is your likeliest version. v3.1 is due this month and it introduces a new form of update that may not work with addons installed that fail to comply with the guidelines. So you install 3.0 - you may need a full reinstallation in a week or two. P3D is a different simulator and if you start with the basic premise that you will have to re-purchase or re-download every addon you can only be pleasantly surprised if the occasional one will port over successfully. What I would advise is to wait until 3.1 is released and in the meantime do your research about FSX addons ported over - you can screw the entire installation if you don't educate yourself before you start. vgbaron
I agree that waiting for 3.1 would be best to avoid a reinstall. Eventually most developers will get on the bandwagon with LM's recommended install location but for now, all it means is that you *might* have to reinstall after an update. They have broken the install into several parts so if the update isn't to scenery, it would have no effect, etc. Vic P3D Rig I7 7700K @ 5.0ghz Asus Maximus X270 16G G.Skill 3600 15-15-15-18 2T EVGARTX2080ti Corsair 1000W PSU 1TB Samsung SSD for P3D - 2 - 256G OCZ Vector SSD - HAF X - Corsiar H100i V2 Liquid Cooler W10 64 Pro.
