Here are a couple of shots from the new P3Dv3 "Avatar" mode. The "Avatar" function lets you jump out of your airplane (or whatever sim vehicle you are in) and walk around the countryside in an Avatar figure or just look at the avatar's first person views without the external figure.

In these shots the avatar is walking around the gate area

He can't do much of anything except walk around but provides some good viewing angles - and who knows - maybe 2 or 3 Flight Sim generations down the line we'll be seeing Avatars with some functionality - like hopping in the cockpit, starting engines, flipping switches, doing checklists and who knows what!

This rudimentary guy in his plain white shirt and jeans is probably just the beginning of coming add on figures - I can foresee folks in airline uniforms, military flight suits and on and on will be joining him in the not too distant future

Is this a glimpse of the future of flight simming???

The airplanes in these shots are the Captain Sim 727 for FSX/P3D and the Aerosoft A319 for FSX/P3D. Scenery is the FlightBeam Studios HD version of Denver International (KDEN) also for FSX and P3D

Well, that's something us FS9ers won't have to learn, pretty cool though!

Something more realistic indeed Bill;)..great shots!

Thanks Omega and KC

Avatars are pretty standard features in console video games but so far - except for pre programmed moving figures like the ground crew in GEX - FS stuff hasn't made it much past non moving static scenery figures and pictures of flight crew in the cockpit. That may be about to change since the P3D SDK apparently has functions for creating Avatars.

Avatars who can move around and do things on command + interact with aircraft systems and other avatars in the sim would add a whole new dimension

I don't think we'll see anything radical in the near future because all the FS vehicle models, VCs, graphics, systems, etc. would also have to be modded to allow for interaction with avatars but the trend may be starting

The good news is because the technology is already well established in console games porting that over to FS might not be all that hard
