Which one is controlling the instrument inside the red square (PFD/ND) in the picture?

Thanks,

Excellent but now how do I make it click-able (off/on) like in the default B737_800 mind you as it is now I need to use Instrument Panel to turn it on. That might be the short coming since it is Window09.

Thoughts?

Are you referring to make it a clickable popup as opposed to shift+xx? What aircraft does this panel correspond to? You may be able to use one of the lesser used popup windows.

Now is Window07 but still not click-able.

:(

Thoughts?

Cheers,

PS: HoggyDog: HSI is the name of the instrument inside the red square in this old version of A300B4. Better known now as PFD or ND. MrZippy was right.

Correcto MrZippy, just like in the default B737_800 is possible by directly clicking on the PFD itself without Shift + # even though you can still do it too (and to the two other instrument panels (NAV and Status) to the right (forgot their names at this moment).

The clickable gauges in the 737-800 are special and not every gauge for every plane is like that. There is probably some work to do in the .cab files. Take N4GIX's advice and check out the Gauge and Panel Forum.

HoggyDog: HSI is the name of the instrument inside the red square in this old version of A300B4. Better known now as PFD or ND. MrZippy was right.

LOL! I know that, I was confirming Zippy's correct identification of the gauge in the red square being the HSI. I posted "^^^^^ what he said" and not "what did he say?" At least in the U.S., "what HE said" is a colloquialism meaning "I agree with what he said" and not a question asking what it was that he said.

Being such an old fart, raised on hand flying DME arcs, NDB, LOC, ILS (including BC) approaches and TO/FROM VOR setting errors, I even know what HSI, VSI, VOR, NDB, OBS, DG, ILS, BC, DME, ADF, SID, STAR, LF, HF, VHF, UHF, SST, FAA, FCC, ATP, ATC, ATIS, CAVU, TIT, ITT, BMEP, MAP, RPM, LOP, FOD, PAPI, FUBAR and LSMFT all actually stand for. :pilot:

PS: I even know that "Lean of Peak" does not involve building a rudimentary shelter against the side of a mountain, and that relative bearings never require lubrication.

You might be able to make it a pop-up windo with just that gauge in it, and either use one of the lower Winowxx numbers and move whatever was in the lower numbered window to a higher number (presuming it has an icon) or utilize Shft+8, OR make an icon for it. Making an icon is a lot easier than you might imagine. I don't have the info right in front of me, but I can post the How To kit (in the library) this evening. It's easy-peasy, as the waying goes. I've even made a few, if you can believe that! Super simple: replace a couple lines in the provided example XML file, give it a unique name and it's own symbol, and you is done. Takes about 5 min, total. Oh, yeah, you gotta find a place to stick it. On the main panel, that is :D

If you say you want the info, I'll dig it up later on. Till then, the rest have very good ideas too! Give a few of the above ideas a try.

Hi Pat,

Please do. I would like to learn a little XML since is long over due for me.

I had already placed it in Window07 and it works but hitting it over the HSI in the main panel with the mouse off/on would be ideal for me.

Thanks in advance.

As the post in Panel & Gauge Design is a link to this thread, I'll reply here.

The example is based on Thomas Ruth A300-B4 panel and gauges.

Step 1. Create a popup for the HSI (as you've already done)

Edit panel.cfg

[Window Titles]
...
Window07=HSI
...

[Window07]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=300,300
window_size_ratio=1.000
position=6
visible=0
ident=10221 //

gauge00=tom3b4!A300 hsi, 0,0,300,300

The ident value is important. Write it down.

Step 2. In subfolder tom3b4 (Gauges folder) edit A300 HSI.xml

At the end, after the last , but before add a mouse click area that calls the above created popup.

0.000,0.000

True

0.000,0.000
201,203
Hand

10221 (>K:PANEL_ID_TOGGLE)

Important: the value sent to K:PANEL_ID_TOGGLE must be the same as ident in Step 1.

Works in both 2D and VC.

Thanks Wim,

I just got the mouse hand over the HSI in the main panel but no toggle on/off action. I can't capture the mouse hand when Print Screen nor "v".

panel.cfg:

HSI-1.jpg

panel.cfg:

HSI-2.jpg

A300 HSI.xml

HSI-3.jpg

Everything seems okay.

Any thoughts?

Icon Popups Tutorial

It's loacated over on AVSIM. Also there, and in this libraray are a ton of goodies in a series titled :Tips and Tricks, by the incredible David "Opa" Marshall, a MSFS legend.

Hope it helps a little bit

Yesssssssssssssssssss!!!

You're the man, Wim. Thanks.

Maybe you can help me on this phenomenon. The needle in altimeter moves in the Tom-Ruth A300B4 where the original panel.cfg resides but on the SGA A300B4 the panel is alias and the needle doesn't move. I can copy the panel.cfg from one to the other so I wouldn't have to use the alias, I know. But curiosity kills the cat every time.

Best regards and thanks again to you and to all,

Aliasing and moving the panel.cfg is just the same, won't change a thing.

I'd have a look at aircraft.cfg of the SGA if I were you (don't have it myself).

Check for these entries (specially the second).

[altimeters]
altimeter.0=1
altimeter.1=1

A wild guess, but one never knows.

Pat, I definitely need this info! I made an icon for the InfoGauge flight data strip:

DataStripIcon.jpg

But I couldn't finger out how to "attach" it to the InfoGauge gauge so It would toggle it. Sadly, the link you provided above goes to the wrong AVSIM page.

EDIT to add: Found the file, digesting it now... some initial confusion, but I'll eventually finger it out.

Thanks-

Doug

Just do what I did: RTFI! :cool:

Read The Friggen Instructions

And then follow them, THAT is the secret! It actually worked for me anyway, and I never read the instructions! I am a male adult after all. Just make certain you rename your xml file so you don't loose the example.
