I should have mentioned that I'm using Edge.

It's perfectly fine, I have been getting that message for quite a few months now. It pops up with the 'blocked' message, Just hit 'Keep', then again, when prompted after that. Regards, Robin

So, I'm following the refresh rate conversation with much interest. The AC supply here in South Africa is 220v @ 50Hz My laptop's screen resolution is 1920x1080 @ 144Hz that's where my sim runs My LG second monitor is 1366x768 @ 60Hz that's where my FSNav map sits. - that's the max resolution. I stand corrected, but I really think that fps has nothing to do with either the ac supply frequency, nor the refresh rate of the monitors. The fps rate is subject to memory, not forgetting that FS2004 is a 16bit program running in Windows 11 (in my case) that will only address 4GB of RAM, & GPU memory, irrespective of how much RAM your PC has. I've patched my FS2004 with that 4GB patch, and things run very smoothly. I've locked my frame rate at 30fps, as the more frames you have, the more resources are being used, and I have not noticed any smoothness improvement when running more than 30fps. I'm going for perceived smoothness as opposed to chasing a higher fps setting. My laptop has AMD Radeon Graphics, as well as a Nvidia GeForce RTX3050 laptop GPU, with 4GB RAM, and I've set my FS2004 to use that.

Dont worry too much about the number of frames. I've locked mine at about 30fps, and all my settings are on hi/full. As long as things run smoothly.

I run them both in Windowed Mode. Just a habit of mine. No issues or problems at all. My FS9 is about 140GB & I run 9 & GW (also P3Dv4.5) off a portable 2TB drive. No lagging at all. I'm using an Asus laptop, Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 7, 16GB ram, 500GB SSD & that 2TB portable drive.

Have a look here for the 9.1 update: Flight Simulator 2004 Update v9.1 (flyawaysimulation.com) The 9.1 NO-CD Patch: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 v9.1 No-CD Patch for FS2004 (flyawaysimulation.com) Note that if you do not use the 9.1 UPDATE, there is also a No-CD patch for an non updated FS2004. It's pretty much essential to have these for the sim.

The 9.1 patch is like a service pack for FS2004, & corrects a couple of things. (hence it's called 9.1) The 9.1 crack lets you use Fs2004 without the 4th CD in the drive.

No problem then, I'm using Edge.

Massive? So far, my FS2004 install is about 120GB, my Golden Wings install is only 28GB, and still going strong.

Hi Mark, My laptop has both internal AMD Radeon graphics as well as a GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. My FS2004 Golden Wings I run using the internal AMD GPU & my FS2004 Silver Wings version I run using the RTX 3050 GPU. Both run perfectly, 2 years with this configuration. As I said, for me, and the payware & freeware add-ons I use, I have no issues at all. Like you, I have an Updated Windows 11. As you say, others may have different ideas & results. For me, running in compatibility mode has no issues.

A registry problem mainly with payware add-ons, but a Registry Repair Tool from Flight1.com - Flight Simulator Add-ons for FSX and Prepar3D will sort it out. I'm running 2x versions of FS2004 & P3D from a 2TB portable drive, as my laptop's SSD is only 500GB. I also have a spare 'vanilla' FS2004 install on the drive for backups, and also if I decide to have another install. For possible Registry issues, as some installations look for FS2004's default install, I have a FS2004 install in it's default install folder, with ONLY the FS9.exe in it, nothing else. Then I just copy & paste from there, to my D:\ drive, where the sims actually sit. So far, I've been running the sims of the portable drive, thats permanently plugged in to my laptop, for 2 years, now, with no issues at all, maybe a very slight delay in selecting planes or scenery.

??? Mark, a very NOT updated Windows for it to work? My Windows 11 is very much updated, on a weekly basis, & my FS2004 (& my Golden Wings version) work perfectly, subject to the usual caveats, such as.. NOT installing in it's default C:\Program Files folder Having the 9.1 update & patch installed and for me, running it in XP compatibility mode, and as Administrator. Just a thought!! If you still have FS2004 installed, even if it's not working!! Can you try install the 9.1 patch & the 9.1 crack? Try to copy the whole FS2004 folder FROM it's C:\Program Files directory, and paste it just in C:\

Maybe try install the FS9.1 update & the 9.1 patch. This should have been done years ago. That, at least will let the sim start without CD4. Instead of uninstalling & reinstalling, and deleting everything, all you have to do is to delete the fs9.cfg & then restart the sim. When in doubt, 1st thing to do is to delete the FS9.cfg The above sorts out 95% of issues. Oh, & Fs9 works very well, in fact perfectly with Windows 11. The usual caveats apply though.
