  1. Hey, Marcus! The best sim-flying experiences I ever had were thanks to you and the fantastic set of on-board flight crew sounds that you created for FS9! Unfortunately, my PC expired 5 or so years ago, and I've had to miss out on FSX.

Happily, I recently purchased a new PC that is supposed to run FSX (Gold Deluxe). Hopefully, I can rejoin the flightsim community again, but I happened to notice your username as I was about make a post, and I just wanted to say, "Thank you."

  2. What say Jim!

Thought I'd check in to see how you're faring through the Great Winter Storm of 2013 (or whatever year they're calling it). Looks to be an epic event, regardless. Hope you had plenty of firewood and stayed warm throughout. Let me know how you're doing.

I've not been simming nor have I been on the forums much at all, but I'm still on the hunt for a Windows PC that will be 100% dedicated to FS2004/FSX. Apple sucks, as far as their desktop stuff. Of course, in everything else, they seem to reign supreme. I have even flown using my iPad, but it was no fun at all.

    I remain hopeful.

    Take care.

  3. Hey, Jim, good to hear from you!

To answer your question, no I haven't been able to sim, and I'm about to go nuts! Bought a Mac-mini almost a yr ago, Apple guiding me all the way b/c I told them specifically it was intended for FS9. Turns out they were clueless. The AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256k graphics card Apple puts in these things is only a mid-range---barely sufficient for FS9 and nowhere near the power that's required for FSX. Too bad I found that article AFTER I had bought the durn thing! So I'm on the hunt, going back to Windows, and I would appreciate any experience/information you might offer on what is the fastest, yet least expensive, rig you've come across that would allow me to push FSX--yes, FSX--to the fullest extent.

On your screenies, beautiful! Fine workmanship! My most favorite single engine GA is the 206 Stationair, which you introduced me to back when Carenado came out with that sharp bronze-tone/white livery!

    Any advice appreciated!

    Take care.

  4. Hey Jim, you been all right? I see that some of my friends' names have a "+" sign beside their names. Do you know what that means? One of these days maybe I'll get back regular.

    Best regards,

  5. Hi Kimber,

As it's getting about time for your annual visit to flightsim, I wanted to get in one important question. I noticed that you have mentioned that your computer is dedicated to FS9, not even an internet connection. Just to clarify, does this mean that you have one PC box with a high-end processor, lots of RAM, and a high-end graphics card, FS9 installed, and that's all? I saw two or three screenies where your FPS were pegged at 360!!!!

Or, cutting right to the chase, Kimber, what IS your setup, to get 360 FPS? Please do tell, as I'm about to purchase, and, as the lady says of Meg Ryan in the diner scene of the movie "When Harry Met Sally," "I'll have whatever she's having!":)

    Please be kind. Thanks!

    Len

  6. Friends,

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. DVD and CD player both went out, and I've had issues unrelated to flightsim to get handled. In the meantime, I've begun researching going over to the Dark Side (Mac) as well as exploring the possibility of trying out X-Plane. Of course, FS9 was my first true love (and you know what they say about those!) So I'll probably wind up with a souped-up Windows PC running FS9---but it's going to have to give me 40 fps!!!! LOL

  7. Many thanks for your kind assistance and attention over the years. You will be missed. :(
  8. Tyler, where are you seeing the ads you mentioned? On the Main Menu page or on the Forums as well? I've never the first ad ever on these forums. I use Firefox browser with Adblock+.

    You might consider trying that.

The message that told you your machine is infected is, of course, worrisome. Go over to MajorGeeks.com and post there to see if you can get some assistance. They lead people through cleaning all the time. Fair warning: MajorGeeks.com has some strict rules and guidelines they expect people to follow. So go there like a private, :-)

    Best of luck.

  9. Hey Jim,

Just getting started back up again, and I've been hit with cursed memory loss! I wonder if you can lend a hand? I can't get ATC to call out radio frequencies using "point" instead of "decimal." I've updated EVP, telling it to use FAA instead of ICAO, but that hasn't worked. Any assistance would be appreciated. bushp04
