  1. Hi gang. Question I wanted to float to the group. I'm very particular about my sound files. I've built unique ones for each aircraft. I have a great one for P&W 757s. BUT, I notice on the TDS 757, the "groan" as it were, i.e. the sound it makes when they engine is full power and you're sitting in front of the engine, takes an unrealistic amount of time to kick in. I used the same sound set in other plane models and it took half as long. So I did a study: I used a panel that shows engine rpms. And I noticed it took the TDS 757 25 seconds to hit 90 rpms, it took another 757 model only about 13. So my question is, what in the aircraft config can u adjust how quickly the plane gets to higher rpms. The jet_scalar is set to 1.2 on both models. So I'm wondering is it's another setting. This is only important cause the quicker I get to the higher rpms the more realistic the sound set. I will post similar question on TDS facebook but was curious as to whether any of my partners here had any insight.
  2. Hi gang - I've tried to download several FS9 files of late from flightsim.com. Once was a Sarasota scenery, and just today a Hawaiian 787 TDS texture. I get a warning that google chrom has blocked it cause it's dangerous. This happened on two different computers in my house. I'd have to believe such files are OK if flightsim has loaded them as popular downloads. Should I disable the google block? Thoughts?
  3. By the way, can someone tell me what the 9.1 patch actually does?
  4. Hi all - just an update. I received my new MSFS 2004 disks. And everything loaded perfectly. So it appears that something corrupted the original disk 2. But I am all set now. Thx for all the feedback. I learned a lot here.
  5. I am so not a PC guy. I struggle with a lot of the advise here just cause it doesn't make sense to me. And now I can;t even load disk 2, either directly from the CD player nor if I load it onto hard drive and try from there. I purchased a new FS9 package off ebay. It was like $15 so I figured why not. I'm gonna see if maybe that works and if not, I don;t know, maybe new computer or some deeper investigation as to this one. What stinks is that whenever I reloaded FS9 in the past, my computer remembered the settings. I would check and all the settings were as they were when I uninstalled. And what was more interesting, I had active camera, which I lived by cause I like sitting in diff places in the cabin. It isn't supported anymore but when I last reinstalled a few weeks ago it still worked. It's as if it was baked into my computers memory. A new computer will lose all that. But oh well. I'll see what the new FS9 disks bring and go from there. Thx all for your feedback.
  6. Hi all. Thx for input. I will say this. I tried to copy discs 1 and 2 over to hard drive and install from there (based on a recommendation I saw). The contents from the first disc loaded fine. But when I tried to load the contents from disc 2 it didn't even provide an option to run the disc install. So that leads me to believe disc 2 and its contents may be corrupted? Since it wouldn't load from the CD-ROm nor my hard drive. I can try to do the 9.1 patch. And you say that FS9 won;t run using disc 4 any longer but it did a week ago. I may just buy a new FS9 package on ebay, try to load on this machine, and if that, and the 9.1 patch doesn;t work, just buy a new machine.
  7. Hi all - I'm running windows 8.1, Intel core i7 - 4700, 8.00 GB, 64 bit All I can tell you is that I uninstall FS9, then reinstall it using the 4 disks, leaving disk 4 in the CD case as I always have. I get no error messages during the reinstall. Everything is fine until I try to start the game. It starts and about 2 seconds in I get that message saying that "microsoft flight simulator has stopped working." And no option to ask for details. And that's it. So if indeed a software problem, I see no indication as to what it is. I'm going to go in and make sure I;ve deleted every old FS9 file in the hard drive, like any add-on scenery etc. Other than that, not sure what to do. If some software is corrupted, I can find out what it is, and I've always ben able to fox any problems I;ve had in past with a reload. So while maybe my computer is fine, I may have to purchase a new one just cause I may never know what software corruption exists. Thx everyone for your responses.
  8. All is says is "a problem caused the prgram to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if the solution is available." No option to click for details. ANd I get no notification.
  9. Hi gang. I have a 16 year old laptop. It's an i7 with strong graphic card. I've had FS9 on it since day one. A few moths back it would no longer run FS9. When I would start the game I would get the warning sign "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working". I uninstalled it, then reinstalled and it worked. Until today. I got that same warning (after trying to reload Quality Sim 757) and I have uninstalled twice, reinstalled twice, and I still get the same message. The computer works fine otherwise. Is it possible that some function needed in the computer to run FS9 has just stopped working. Burned out maybe. Does that make sense. To have to buy a new computer after 16 years doesn;t really bother me. This computer has served its purpose. But given that the computer works otherwise, I just want to make sure I may not be missing some obvious trick to correct this before I buy a new computer. Any thoughts
  10. OK, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
  11. Gang - as I mentioned in an earlier post, the only real airliner I don't have in FS9 and really long for is the A320 NEO family, especially the 321NEO. It's a shame Project Airbus didn't stay around long enough to simply do an update to just the engine. Cause they had already done the A321 with the sharklet winglets so the only real change would be the bigger engine. Does anyone know if any of the Project Airbus team still is involved in this trade. Or if there would be any other options of having someone update the existing model. I know to prevent piracy it's near impossible to get into an existing model and make a structural update. Or is there any other avenue. It's frustrating cause we're so close to having one, yet so far. I had hoped maybe the TDS team might do one, as they had continued FS9 support well after others ceased, with the 787 series and the 757. But I doubt they even exist anymore. So just curious as to any thoughts, or is all hope lost.
  12. Interestingly enough, I was able to just reload FS9 on my existing 15 year old system. Only thing I'm missing is Active Camera, which makes me sad. But I use specific panel that allows me to sit anywhere in the cabin. It's just that the location has to be pre-set. But other than that, all is good. I was prepared to go out and purchase another i7 PC but with Windows 8, which is challenging to find. I wasn;t sure FS9 would work on Windows 10, or 11. Sounds like it does!!! Long live FS9!!!
  13. Hi all. My FS9 finally crashed on my 15 year old laptop. So I'm trying to reload on a new one. But it got me to thinking, I remember the first weekend after I bought FS9, which was in mid-2005. I remember staying up late one night downloading all the available commercial aviation (IFDG, Project OpenSky, etc) then adding payware later (Overland, CLS airbuses, Quality WIngs, etc). With few exceptions (a good A220 and A320/321 NEOs), there isn't a commercial airplane I don;t have on FS9, and all real great quality. Makes me wonder why 3 years in on MSFS 2020, there really aren't a ton of choices for planes. At least not anywhere near what I had in FS9. ANd I just looked at a payware A320 for MSFS 2020. The strobes on the back of the wing....really? How do you make a mistake like that this far into this technology. Anyway, it just makes me realize just how great FS9 is to this day - and why as I sit here I'm reloading it on a new computer vs. purchasing MSFS 2020.
