  1. Hey you kids ... load up the wagon and let’s get going.  I’ve got the picnic basket and don’t forget the cooler and charcoal.  Grandma ... do you want to ride shotgun or sit with the kids in the back?  Put those phones down and check out this beautiful valley.  Okay ... everybody out!  The parks just down by the river.  It’s a burger-meister day in Innsbruck!  Rupert ... how do you want your burger?  🍔

(Sorry Rupert ... just too beautiful to lower that ceiling and we're ready for summer here in the Upper Midwest ... but kept the bird below 3,500 ... and yes ... just as beautiful in the winter.  Thanks)!

  2. 'Not to worry Max ... here we come!  Never mind ... I know you don't see the lighthouse ... abandon your sinking vessel and climb on board.  Now get out there and put some fuel in this bird.'  A nice little flight.  Two (2) bridges and a cruise ship straddling the canal ... oh well ... so be it for default scenery.  Thanks Macro!

Well done Bosss ... I've decided that Sealand is a keeper!  At certain angles that wing is truly a thing of beauty.  Thanks for sharing her with us.

The distance from Bermuda to Lajes in the Azores Islands is 1900 nms or so, and the Sealand's max range is only about 1200 nms on a good day.

Well done Bosss ... I thought you might backtrack and follow the Lindbergh's 1933 route ('Listen! The Wind') across and home ... maybe next time!

I had to read this three times ... draw a couple diagrams ... look up a few terms ... but I actually learned something!  Thanks Rupert ... really good stuff!

We seem to like the informality.  We will not produce a rules or bylaws set (for that matter, I'll forego a formal results document and simply leave the locked thread as a record of the meeting's results.

We will have an unspecified number of Minor (<1 week duration) events and 2-3 Major (2-4 week duration) events in 2024, the administration of which will remain an open question until the events themselves are developed.

[ Club Chachapoya ] is the branding for all Club threads.

Sounds good to me TomP ... thank you for moderating ... good discussion.  When the bar is open the first round is on me!  🍻

In that case I withdraw all the flights/routes I've posted.  My organizational skills are non-existent.

Sorry ... missed that one TomP ... that may not be good ... thought I saw something about others stepping in given the event and skill sets needed ... and let's not forget that some could be simple as 1).  Here's the route.  2). Try to leave _______ by the ________.  3). Share your experiences along the way.  4). Try to end up in _______ by the ________.  5).  Have Fun!

  8. Hanger 2 - History ... lunch break at the Annual Meeting so I though it may be nice to share a few slides of past events while we're here at Meigs.  In my memory folder I have many more but the committee has only given me 15 minutes ... so ... apologies to any I may have missed.  Here's the show!

The down time between Events concerns me.

Warrants further discussion ... being somewhat of a proponent for 'let it happen naturally' (which has been the process to date) I do understand why some would like a little more structure.  In some ways as Australia evolved following Route 66 it may have been a little too much ... perhaps a lesson learned.   At the same time, I would hate to think Australia had been set on a shelf for a future date ... just to gather dust.

Some general guidelines may be helpful ... but let us not allow some exceptions (from time to time) rule the day.  Thoughts?

  10. Sorry ... a little late into Meigs and almost late for the meeting ... lots of good comments above.  Just a few general thoughts ...

    1. How can the Club best serve you?  Flexible ... Encouraging
      1. As a (sim) pilot?
      2. As a creator (writer)?
      3. As a person?
    2. Events:  Variety is the spice of life ...
      1. Majors:
        1. General parameters (length, scoring, reporting, participation by routemakers)?
        2. How many per year?
        3. Timing?
      2. Minors:
        1. General parameters?
        2. Frequency?
    3. Branding and Publicity:  Let it happen naturally.
      1. [Club Chachapoya] as visual tag in all Club thread titles.  Thread structure?
      2. How can we increase our popularity and membership roll?
      3. How can we leverage our strengths to get flightsim.com to make accommodations for us?
    4. Club Bylaws, Duties, and Staff:  Keep things simple.
      1. A basic rules/conflict resolution/disciplinary process set?
      2. What needs to be done?
      3. Who's going to do it throughout 2024 (primaries and alternates)?
    5.  Have Fun!

And in a very short while I knew EXACTLY where I was.

If I didn't know better Bosss I'd say you were a local ... you certainly would qualify.  Thanks for the 'City of Lakes' tour on your way into KFCM.  Well done!  👍

  12. Being in the Upper Midwest I planned a (floatplane) route through some of Minnesota’s and Wisconsin’s lake country on my way to Meigs, but given the weather over the last week a little ice remains and as such it was well to put safety first.

Little Falls, Minnesota sits near the geographic center of the state along the Mississippi River and among other things was the boyhood home of ... yup ... Charles Lindbergh.  It is also somewhat of a gateway to the lake country in northern Minnesota and as such seemed appropriate for my departure point.

Something classic seemed the right choice for the trip, but at the same time I needed something warm and comfortable.  The C-195 Businessliner fit the criteria and with my sectionals in hand I was off to the windy city!

Heading north out of KLXL it was clear that winter still held her grip in the northland ... snow everywhere except for the lakes which appeared to be open (good thing I did my homework).  Past the resort towns of Backus and Longville the lakes soon where the dominant feature and shortly Remer and Grand Rapids passed underneath.

    MM_3.jpg.211a718182fcea6bbd9a6413329301a0.jpg

At Cloquet and Duluth, Lake Superior came into view before turning toward the southeast and crossing into Wisconsin.  The cabin was warm and the Jacobs purred as Solon Springs and then Hayward drifted by and the entire Lake Chippewa Flowage.

Snow still covered the landscape at Wausau and Stevens Point but at Oshkosh winter seemed to loosen her grip.  Milwaukee and Racine were next at which point the Businessliner turned south and followed the Lake Michigan shoreline to Chicago.

Meigs was waiting and the tower guided us around to 36 for the landing.  A short taxi to parking and with the checklist in hand time to shut things down ending that beautiful Jacobs melody ... now ... where’s VP2 taking us for dinner?

I think it’s moose burger night back at ‘The Woodman Cafe’ in Remer ... 😎
