  1. It doesn't matter what your sim's date and time is, and the date and time is not included in the binary files. The weather for the binary files would have been whatever the current weather was when they were available on the MSN Zone.

I used the Wayback Machine ( archive.org) to retrieve the last files that were hosted on the MSN Zone for Flight Simulator's weather. There was only a very few of them available that archive.org had retrieved and saved, and these were from December 10 2004 (you can tell the date from the numbers in the above URLs in my first post for archive.org ).

P.S. I'm pretty sure that the sims ignored the "fronts.bin" file, as the one that I downloaded from archive.org was zero bytes. About the other two files, "metars.bin" and "metars_and_winds_aloft.bin": I'm not sure which one (or if both of them) are used for Flight Simulator's real-world weather.

Anyhow, in a nutshell, when retrieving the weather within Flight Simulator with these files that are on my server, it is simply setting up FS's weather using the really old weather files that they (at the time) had on the MSN Zone back in the day.

Hehe, as you can probably tell, I'm easily amused LOL! This was simply a 'proof of concept' sort of experiment. I just thought it was kind of cool to see Flight Simulator ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING when clicking on the button to download the weather, verses popping up a 'server not found' error message :)

Like I posted previously, it's really a shame that there isn't some sort of METAR2Bin converter of sorts so that one could convert current METARs to BIN files that FS could load directly.

P.P.S. I've twiddled around a bit with the old utility "Wetter 2000 v1.7" for FS2K, but it's rather a pain to go through all of the steps to import current METARs into the utility. Not to mention, without a valid registration code for Wetter, there is no way to select multiple METARs of different locations to set up "local" weather areas in FS (the old routine that used the MSN Zone would actually set up local weather zones for the whole world (or most of the world), I THINK?). Of course, being able to purchase a registration code for Wetter is long-since gone.

I've come up totally empty searching on, ummm, 'questionable sites', for a reg code LOL.

Thanks for the explanation, well, its still nice to see that the "real-world weather" button does something..

I personally use(d) FS Metar with FS2002 if I want to get actual weather, however only can download metar file from vatsim for instance, open it manually in FS Metar, and then send it to FS2002 thru old version of FSUIPC, the download through FS Metar doesnt work, it tries, but never finishes... i fiddled with fsmetar.ini links syntax a lot but no luck...

  2. Here's an interesting one:

I download archives of the last real-world weather files for FS2K that hosted were on the long-since gone MSN Zone site:

    http://fs2k.zone.com:80/fronts.bin

    http://fs2k.zone.com/metars.bin

    http://fs2k.zone.com/metars_and_winds_aloft.bin

...on the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) from:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20190421053133/http://fs2k.zone.com/fronts.bin

    https://web.archive.org/web/20041210200236/http://fs2k.zone.com:80/metars.bin

    https://web.archive.org/web/20041210191154/http://fs2k.zone.com:80/metars_and_winds_aloft.bin

...and uploaded them to my web server at http://bhservices.us .

Open your "FS2000.cfg" file with WinDoZe NotePad, edit the following line in the file:

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    [Weather]

    WeatherServerAddress=fs2k.zone.com

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    ...to read:

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    [Weather]

    WeatherServerAddress=bhservices.us

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    ...and save the "FS2000.cfg" file.

Start FS2K and it will alow you to download the real-world weather from within the sim (the ".bin" files will be downloaded from my web server)... it works just like it did back in the day :)

It's really a shame that there isn't some way to copy and paste METAR data (e.g. from https://www.aviationweather.gov/metar/data ) into a file, somehow convert it to the MSN Zone ".bin" files, and then load them into FS2K.

Anyhow, I thought this was kind of neat :)

Thanks! Works well. Without checking out the actual files, I assume the metars loaded are just for months, days and times, regardless which year, right? Because I load sim with current time and it loaded just fine apparently, worked in a snap....

  3. Hello,

could you guys please suggest some easy fix to edit (pictured below, present in FSX,FSX-SE) error in the Utah terrain elevation? I just don't know where exactly to look and which tool to use. Some simple fix would be great. Edit single .bgl, but which one, and how? Its my favorite route and this is so irritating.

I know I can "fix it" by installing upgraded mesh (FS Global etc), however it messes up other things such as airport elevations...

    Thanks for advice.

  4. You might care to look into AFCAD v1.40 which was for FS2002. It's available here on Flightsim. Depending on what exactly you want to do it may help.

Thanks for suggestion, Ill try that AFCAD v 1.40. Ill look for it and will report if it helped.

What I primarily need to do is to remove a wrong runway from stock airport. If I only could achieve this task, that would be excellent for the starter...

  5. Sorry to interfere on this. But I am interested on 767 PIC for FS2000. Those of you who were looking for the patch, where did you get the original 767 PIC for FS2000?

    Thanks and regards.

I own the boxed copy, bought it back then around year 2000 somewhere in the store. I'd think you could find it on eBay for a few bucks with a bit of patience. Recently purchased quite a few FS2002 (and even FS2000) add-ons on eBay.

  6. The PMDG looks excellent! Too bad some of these old files aren't available anywhere to download as they are really hard to find.

The best source for FS2002 payware add-ons is definitely eBay, got numerous items recently there for very reasonable money. The freeware FS2002 add-ons are of varying quality, but also getting hard to find on the web, many links are dead…

  7. Nice in FS2002.!? How do you place these pics in this Forum? I can only copy my text into this quick reply. But jpg with an URL or .., ? I could not add a picture to my story. I have the FS9/FS2004. It ‘s also a nice sim. Not to heavy. Joop.

Hi, its easy, just use the top menu icon (marked below). Post some pics.

  8. ...a few pics from today's quick spin in Carenado Tomahawk around KCOS. Also, I got bunch of fs2000/fs2002 (and fs2004) add-ons off eBay recently, will post some screens too...

  9. I also have the 767PIC FS2000 1.1 Patch if anyone needs that.........

good to know...thx. May need it, although I think I may have it too somewhere.

I quite didn't get to installing FS2000 yet, although I tried. I however couldnt find my old original CD's, so I downloaded two ISOs from the archive web, but they are Italian version... now just found EN FS2000 Pro version, downloading... It seems that 767PIC has some features (flights or adventures or something like that) that run under FS2000 only and which are left out from FS2002 port.

BTW, got more into fooling with FS2002, bought a few jetliners from eBay. Can post a few pics if interested.

Also, looking for a program that would allow me to edit stock FS2002 airports. I downloaded several utilities such as Airport v.2.60 and v.3.0 upgrade, but I dont seem to be able to load any stock airport into it. Maybe need FS2002 SDK installed or so? In FS2004 I can easily edit stock airports with Airport Design Editor, but it wont do FS2002, only fs9 and fsx...

  10. Does anybody have these patches? None of the old Wilco links work any more. I’d be happy to return the favor if I have any files somebody else needs!

    Thanks,

    Dustin

+1 regarding 767PIC patch for FS2002 (767PilotinCommandPatchFS2002.exe).. even wrote to Wilcopub, got reply a month later that "Unfortunately, we don't have such file anymore."

  11. I'm using my mandatory "stay at home" to resurrect my old FS2002. I want to update some of the stock airports, so I tried downloading AFCAD v1.4. Windows Defender is telling me there is a virus or malware embedded.

I tried AFCAD v2. It downloaded with no problems, but won't talk to the FS2k2 files.

Any advice would be appreciated. Better yet, a clean copy of AFCAR v1.4.

    +1

same problem. need to edit stock fs2002 airport, just to remove two runways...

  12. Im running FS2002 on Win10 just fine, installed it for fun and nostalgia reason recently.. Only thing that I dont seem to be able to figure out is a gauges flickering in windowed mode with external AA applied through nvidia inspector. The gauges surprisingly dont flicker if any red info text is displayed on the screen (fps count and coords, zoom , parking brake etc). In full screen no flicker at all, but I prefer windowed mode, and properly scaled to in order to get decent panel quality, 1280x960 window is about right....

if anyone could advice how to get rid of that gauges flicker, would greatly appreciate.

  13. Greeting to all FS9 flyers. I got renewed interest in FS9 recently, well tuned works like a charm on Win10 and is rock stable. I got used to its quirks over the years, and when add-ons are managed carefully, it's rewarding simulation wise, including quite decent visuals considering its age, plus doesn't need any ridiculous investment into the new hardware. Have FSX setup as well, but somehow stick more with FS9 these days.... Down the road want to get taste of MSFS but hardware demands and expected lengthy fine tuning to be usable keeps me stay way from it for now....
