  1. This just gets stranger... just tried it again and it now appears to be working.... the only thing that is any different is that I powered down a while ago and powered up again to try it... I can't see why a reboot would make any difference, well a cold start after a few hours.... How odd, but it does seem to be working now.... Thanks for your help. Jonathan
  2. Thank you for your help with this and downloading them to try..... this is so weird as that is exactly what I did. I installed MSFS to my F: drive so my community folder is F:\Flight_Sim\Community - I even checked this going into the Sim, then dev mode, then watched bases just in case and community folder is shown as this path, so all good. I extracted the folders and then placed the extracted folder as you described into the community folder (nothing else in there) and started the sim..... nothing.... Hmmm Is there a way to see if the Sim knows it is there / detected or turn it on / off? Many Thanks for your help.

  4. I believe so, inside the folder are a collection of files and folders (from memory) so I copied the folder with them in and not a higher level folder...... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Hi, I have just downloaded my first two scenery packs outside of the marketplace (slightim.to) I have extracted both zips and copied the folders to the community folder, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. I have checked in Dev Mode, Watched Bases that I have used the correct community folder (I installed to a different location, and I have) I have been copying the folder in, start sim, fly, exit sim, delete contents of community folder, start sim, fly trying to see any different and I cannot find any different with our without the folders in the community folder. Is there a way to check if the flight sim "sees" the content or turning in on or off etc.? What am I doing wrong? Many Thanks Jonathan
  6. That’s good news, fingers crossed. I had already done all the updates including Microsoft store (frequently check) so that wasn’t it for me. Yesterday I spent about an hour to an hour and a half (all the time I had) and flew the same short flight (10 to 15mins) 4 or 5 times, mostly to experiment with different gfx settings. However, before starting I turned AI traffic off (live traffic was already off) and with all the tinkering I did I didn’t have a CTD. Having said that, its not all good... I experimented with lots of gfx tweaks (swapping settings between Ultra, High and some Medium plus the sliders) Interestingly, the changes I made didn’t seem to have much affect on the FPS, where I was flying anyway but maybe not the best test - but what did start to happen was I started to get a lot of pauses - sometime it would pause for 3-6 seconds then start, then sometimes pause almost immediately again. Then it would get better, then worse, some times it was unplayable due to long pauses with brief periods between “unpaused” then it got better again. It almost seemed that the lower I set the graphics the worse it got (not scientific, I just kept lowering settings and that didn’t solve the problem) and the FPS (in dev mode) didn’t seem to notice the pausing. It didn’t CTD but was was unplayable at times. I don’t think this can be internet related as flew the same routes each time and I have a rolling cache setup on a separate SSD drive.... I stopped when I ran out of time so I don’t know if turning off traffic fixed CTD (too early to be sure) and whether this pausing is not a new problem. I have had the odd “micro pause” in the past but nothing like this! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. It probably doesn't help, but looked in my event viewer after the CTD and had the following error, do you get something similar stinger2k2? 8. I havent really tried much today due to time constraints, however I uninstalled and reinstalled latest nvidia drivers, I then change the graphics settings - I did have a customised set up (suggested online for a similar spec to mine) but changed it to High Spec (not Ultra) so think it most cases its a downgrade. Flew a bit around (only 10 minutes or so) seemed a little smoother (probably lower gfx settings or maybe because I was in an area with little ground detail) - landed sucessfully, clicked to to go back to menus, pause then crash to desktop - ARGH. I dont think its a bad CPU either, as with yours mine is new - it also runs benchmarks happily cranked up high for hours and fine with any other game I throw at it - just Flight Sim. And as this seems to be very common surely they can't all be failing cpu's ?
  9. I experience exactly the same pause before crash to desktop, there is usually I slight pause with the audio crackle before this happens.... I always have the latest drivers fir everything and frequently check so I don’t think outdated drivers are my problems. That’s a shame you hadn’t fixed it. The easiest way to find the event viewer is probably just type event viewer in the search box (bottom left of screen or after you press start) and it should appear in the list of results at the top. I haven’t been able to try any changes myself yet, but it seems some people are suggesting it’s linked to radio Comms and turning this off may fix it. I haven’t tried that either but I don’t really want to have no ATC...... might be a useful test though .... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I don't have any wireless devices at all and nothing unusal running in the background.... It isn't temperature as I have watched that - even lower the thresholds on my fans so they spin up sooner but my system doesn't hot - the hottest thing is the O/S M2 drive, it gets hotter than the game drive, I am guessing it is because it is closer to the CPU? Stinger. your spec is very similar to mind, will be very interesting to see how you get on with yours - I have all the latest drivers and updates but that hasn't helped unfortunately. I am thinking of lowering the graphic settings just to see if that makes a difference...... I have watched the load on the CPU and GPU and they don't seem excessive (especially the CPU, doesn't seem to use may cores) I am hoping to get this sorted soon before it goes out the window! Many Thanks
  11. Yes, it is - I have never installed any mods, changes etc. everying is vanilla since new install. FS is installed in a second drive (NVMe) which I bought specifially for the purpose, and the cache drive is another different drive (SSD) - trying to get all the performance I can without overclocking.... And still no joy :( I was about to buy the honeycomb yoke and throttle when they come available but not sure that is a good idea if the sim continually crashes to desktop.. Very frustrated. Thanks for your help.
  12. Just tried another short flight having changed my memory timings to 3400 as suggested by but unfortunately that didn't help - I think it made it worse unfortunately. I only flew from Las Vegas to Los Angeles so around 30 - 40 minutes after around 30 mins or so I noticed massive amounts of lag sporadically, the screen would freeze for maybe 1 to 2 seconds at a time before catching up, the worst was maybe a 5 to 7 second pause (sound still playing) and I thought that it has crashed - but it hadn't. This was very hit and miss for a while but I did manage to land the plane. However, once landed when going back to the main menu, crashed back to desktop - ARGH. Performance was definately worse like this than before annoyingly...... Interestingly, if memory was on Auto before (2100 ish) and I manually set the timing to 3400 - doesn't that mean I increased the speed rather than slowed it? Where to go from here?
  13. Sorry - I have the i7 10700k. I currenly have XMP off - I have XMPI and XMPII tried both (XMPII sets everything whereas XMPI leaves some settings on Auto - both result in 3600mhz - not sure if thats an ASUS thing or not. Should I try enabling the XMPII then see if I can change DRAM down to 3400 - or should I be leaving it on auto and just change DRAM to 3400? Thanks again for all your help with this....
  14. I havent increased from the stock (auto) so running at 2100 mhz. - I did try 3600mhz initally which seemed fine for everything else but on a forum they suggested running anything above 2100 wasnt officially supported by the CPU and suggested going back to auto for best reliability - which I have done. Is it worth increasing to 3400 or is that likely to make it worse? Thanks for the help
  15. I am getting really frustrated with my CTD - I was running a lower spec system (4770k, 780Ti and 32gb ram) with lower video settings and all seemed fine. Desided to upgrade for flightsim and went to 10700k, 2080 Super, 32Gb 3600Mhz ram and 2 x NVMe drives on an Asus z490-F mainboard. I have not installed any mods, no overclocking (not even the memory profile) but get random CTD - usually after a while. Driving me nuts. Done all the usual, even running in Admin but not helped (it is very random so hard to tell if anything has made it better) It does seem to be linked to audio in some way - I tend to notice a small pause in video with some audio, typically the radio static sounds causes a pause and this usually means there is a good chance I will get a CTD soon. Just tried flying the Airbus from Birmingham to Heathrow, maybe 20 mins or so, as I was decending to land I was watching the altimeter smoothly scrolling down but noticed everytime I heard the "radio static" the altimeter would noticably pause (I suspect everything was pausing but easy to see on the altimeter) and resume after the static sound. As I touched down (hard) got the CTD. Driving me mad. Would really welcome any suggestions.
