  1. Hi,

I didn't go the AMD route myself and I'm upgrading four this week. I went Intel 10900k, a Gigabyte z490 Aorus master motherboard, 32GB/3600 ram by G-Skill and a CPU cooler... The rest I am taking from the old computer to save some cash.

    Intel10900K CPU $425.00

    Gigabyte M/B $400.00

    32GB GSkill ram @ 3600 cl16 $229.00

    Ice Giant CPU cooler: $180.00

    1TB NVME storage $200.00

    Under $1,500

Im not the most savvy PC hardware guru out there. With that, lack of time and the current GPU shortage Im going Pre Built.

Looking at this one. What ya think ?

    iBuyPower, Slate MR Gaming Desktop - Intel i7-11700F - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB - 480GB SSD + 1TB HDD

My plan is to get something like this one. Still build in a year or so when the GPU shortage is over. Will then use this one to run some side programs, Display etc.

    Thanks !!!!!

  2. 779 Views 0 Ideas.lol.... I know its a tuff question as there are SO many variations !

I have taken the required specs from X Plane 11 and MSFS and imputed them into https://pcpartpicker.com/

Also have surfed multiple site including Best buy and found this cat. CyberPowerPC - Gamer Master Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - 16GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT - 1TB HDD + 500GB SSD or 949.00 US

Was on a 1K budget but Momma says I can up the anti.lol to 1500 ish.

Also going after Logitech Switch, Multi and 2 Radio Panels. Just dont have the time to build controls right now !

Still if anyone has bought or built a new one with any suggestions or a good reputable place to buy parts or pre build's I appreciate it !

  3. HI, Thinking of upgrading to X-Plane from FSX. Will not go to MSFS until maybe they get it figured out for multiple Monitors. Will need new PC as I downloaded the X-Plan trial and my current moaned.lol. Looking at a prebuilt that wont break the piggy bank. Anyone got a model, place to buy suggestions ?

    Thanks !

  4. Welcome Back ! Im also waiting on MSFS to get the bugs out. Also it will not allow for window/View undocking to get a clean front view ! Watched the latest Osobo/MS Developers video and that Option was not really a concern.

Anyhow. I Like LiL Nav Map. Free, Great for Flight Planning. Has a LiL Nav Connect option where you can put it on a remote PC.

I roll Rex Weather 5 due to not YET having my new rig built. Rex is less PC demanding and all i need is live Weather !

  5. FSRealWx-lite

    Live weather, Free, good.

    Options you can set.

Be aware heavy cloud, rain, lightning storm, snowstorm, are heavy work for the processor. Always. Using default weather it's the same.

Options in FSRealWx-lite allow setting fewer cloud layers. (more layers would be more work forCPU).

Down Loaded and spent the 30 free days loven it ! All I need is live weather ! Was gonna buy but i see there is not a lot of activity in there forum and I have heard the product no longer come with support ! Gonna look closer at that today ! Will report back here when I find out.

As I have stated I have never purchased add ons ! I see FSrealWX is EUR 20.00. I live in America. Is that a issue ?

    Thanks !

  6. As far as I know, FSX shouldn't be run on a Laptop full stop, according to Microsoft. But you have proved it can be done - but whether either product would work alongside is a pure gamble and nobody can promise you it will work satisfactorily.

All I can say is that on my desktop machine, you wouldn't know performance-wise whether either product is running or not.

As to the two products, Rex has an irritating issue which is why I abandoned it in favour of Active Sky. The latter is a far more advanced product.

    John

Ya figured it would be a buy and see if scenerio.... Say if i buy. Once I get my new rig rocken can I use the same license on it ? pretty sher yes but as long as your are helping !

Ya I hear ya on the LapTop. I actually run 3 separate older laptops. Specs above are the " main.lol " one. All linked together for FSX. 2 separate older Tv's for main display and panel/gauge view. 1 Smart other linked in via the HDMI thru #2 laptop that is linked to #1 via Win 10 connect option. Other is on a network connection, simconnect client etc squeezing everything out of that I can ! I run my GSX settings in the high to max and still rock 50-80 FPS depending on the Airport im in....

Why I call the current build Hodgy 5.0. Would rather learn how to get everything i can out of a setup than simply go and buy one that I could easily do. MUCH more fun for me......

    Thanks Again ! .

  7. I doubt there is much difference in resource usage beween Active Sky and Rex, so if I were you I would hold back on both until you have your new gear. Not being funny, but the last year of happenings have proved that you never know what is round the next corner in life.

Meanwhile there are several freebies out there that will work with FSX. Perhaps not as sophisticated as the above two, but it will keep you tickling along. I'm sure others will have their recommendations.

    John

    Tried and extinguished the freebies.

I have researched Rex vs Active sky in the minimum Requirements. Per those Rex says it will work fine on my pc. My concern with active sky as i fall short of Requirements is that it will slowdown FSX and kill FPS !

    Thanks !

  8. By default, those options should be assigned to keys 1, 2, 3 & 4. That's on your main keyboard above the QWERTY, not the numerical keyboard.

If they are blank for some reason, you can re-assign them to those keys, or anything else (such as the number keypad) if you want. Or the Reset Defaults button will put them (and everything else, of course) as they should be.

They are used for the purposes previously explained.

    John

    Thanks.

  9. I have never bought a add on for my FSX ! heck only have used a few free addons in decades of use.

Current PC is a lap top. Intel Core i5825ou CPU @ 1.6 ghz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core, 8 Logical, RAM 8.0 GB Intel UHD Graphics 620, Adapter RAM 1.0GB...... Win 10 Direct X 12....

My Current rig does not meet the minimum for Active sky as im told that is the best weather add on. New rig being built but months away. Building to between recommended and Ideal Specs for MSFS 2020. Just want live weather for FSX until the new Flight Deck is done !

Question is, does anyone have any other pay Weather Addons that will work on my current PC ?

If i buy Rex or other today (on the Flightsim store :) ) and then get the new rig going in a few months can i move the weather addon on to a the new PC ?

    Thanks !

  10. it's just what button is used to enter the numer 1

I use the '1' key on my keyboard for that......!:D

Never thought of assigning a different key to enter 1. Seems confusing to have t press 'u' or "Shift + R" for example.

    lol.

you can use 1,2,3,4 etc to select options fron the ATC menu instead if clicking with mouse.

    als used for assignments like

    then quickly

    to open door 3

    or

    release then quickly

    to select engine 2 only.

(changes in throttle with joystick then only affect engine 2.)

    or

release then quickly release then quickly

to select engine 3 and 4 only.

(changes in throttle with joystick then only affect engine 3 and 4.)

Of course 1,2,3,4 also are used when entering info in an FMC. Perhaps also usable in the default GPS.

I do not want to reprogram the number keys.lol !

in FSX, open settings, controls, buttons/keys, scroll down to Event " Select Item "! has 4 options " Select Item 1,2,3 & 4 " ! None of the Events have a default setting to keyboard or controller !

My question is can these Events be programmed and how ?

  11. Yes. The easiest way would be to use FSUIPC4. For example I have four buttons on my throttle and each one was assigned by FSUIPC to open each of the four possible aircraft exit doors.

THANKS ! Downloaded and scanned the free zip. found a few youtube videos and will learn more later today.

Did you go with free or paid ?

Are the door opening options already a option in FSX or does FSUIPC allow you to program that and how ? My door opening is the Y button on my keyboard but i can set it to any key or button on my controllers but i fly a GA with only 1 door..

My main request is, Im flying the default Beechcraft 58g. There is no FSX Default option to turn the fuel selector dials from off to on and or crossfeed and back for shutdown......

Would still like to find out what the 4 "" Select Item "" options in FSX do !

    THANKS AGAIN !

  12. In Settings, Controls, Buttons /Keys. Under the Event column there are 4 Events to chose from, " Select Item 1,2,3,4 " No actual events like Panel Lights etc... My question IS can these Events be programmed to have say the Taxi switch on the panel move, on/off ? or any other items not covered by default Events ?

Sorry if this has been covered. I looked and could not find a answer. Thanks !

  13. Echoing the anti MSFS 2020 ! At least until it reflects my wants and needs.... Wish the msfs Q's be removed from FSX boards !..

In the mean time on FSX to keep it interesting.lol I have amped up my Airport Design Editing adding docks, lights. boats, Heli Pad etc at my home and Cabin locations. Have added Seaplane flying to my forte and love it. Have also taken my local Airport for home, the Cabin and several others to the next level using ADE.
