  1. Hi,

    I just checked KGWS with default scenery, autogen and mesh. The trees do really come close to the runway.

    The more FS9-realistic way to solve this would be to add some airport background polygons (I use SBuilder for that) to something resembling Google Earth. It would look better and the autogen trees would be gone from there...

  2. Hi,

    I wasn't going to tell too many people because they'll flood ASE servers and HiFi will shut the servers down! lol

    Oops... Didn't think about that one.

    Everybody, please disregard everything I've said here! ;)

  3. Hi,

    You can't get internet weather updates. Everything else works.

    If you also have ASE you can, as I've mentioned in my earlier reply.

    I have both installed, and I only download ASE historical weather WX files.

    When I load one of these files in ASE, it'll update the current_wx_snapshot.txt in both ASE and AS6.5, so I don't even have to copy it myself.

    I download ASE WX files for every day of the year and put them in 7zip files per year. So if the ASE server eventually dies I'll still have realistic weather to fly in.

    DDP.

  4. Hi Mark,

    I still have it installed and (mostly) using it for the ASG part. I will let AS6.5 run the weather on long flights as it actually uses the TAFs to change the weather, unlike ASE...

    It does work on my Win7x64, running as Admin. I even get WX updates in there, thanks to ASE, as both AS6.5 and ASE use the current_wx_snapshot.txt file...

  5. Hi,

    Guenther,

    In the meantime I've seen some YouTube movies about real Airbus 319 approaches/routes through the mountain valleys to both runway ends at Paro and to my great surprise, these can also be more or less followed correctly when approaching the FS9 depiction of this airport, but then again, once the aircraft has entered the initial valley, it's pilot really needs to know the way to the airport.

    IRL, I think only Drukair pilots are allowed to land at Paro.

    About FS9, depending on the mesh, stock or realistic (e.g. FSGlobal), the scenery could look very different.

  6. Hi,

    I've only ever used ADE to add approach code. Set it up to compile as "AFCAD Split" and it'll create a separate approach BGL file. I've also set it up to compile to a temp folder, so nothing gets overwritten by accident.

    As said before:

    One needs to set up the approach as an ILS, otherwise ATC/AI will only use that code in IMC conditions.

    Only some of the approach header info in ADE is important for ATC/AI.

    The fix (usually the FAF), that's when the AI will drop it's landing gear.

    The alt. at which AI crosses that fix.

    The missed approach alt.

    The course the AI will fly after crossing the fix, in ADE in TRUE degrees. It will also use that course to to fly towards the fix at a ~30 degree intercept.

    The old ADE 1.65 pdf can be downloaded here:

  7. Hi,

    So I purchased the Wilco today. Just my luck, I was getting an instant CTD when clicking fly now. I managed to temporarily resolve the issue by downloading a registry fix for the Wilco, but I still have the problem maybe 25% of the time. And it also crashes when I exit. Still trying to fix the issue...

    What folder do you have FS9 installed in? If it's the default /Program Files (x86), that may be the issue...

    Regards,

    DDP.

  8. Hi,

    I've got the Wilco/Feelthere Airbus Evo 1 (A318 --> A321). I run it on Win7x64 Pro (no compatibility mode) without too much problems.

    Using WinXP SP3 compatibility mode breaks the weather radar (on my PC at least).

    The FlyByWire works OK. The AP/AT does have some quirks. But I've learned to work around them...

    Regards,

    DDP.

  9. Hi,

    I can confirm that Comp. Mode can break things in FS9.

    Setting it to WinXP SP3 mode broke the WX radar on the Wilco/Feelthere Airbus Evo.

  10. Hi,

    Does runway 32 have ILS?

    Stock FS9 KPIT has ILS for all of the runways so that shouldn't be a factor here.

    I just set up at KPIT, set FS9 own weather interface to 097-16kt. I then advanced time by a minute to update AI/ATC. ATIS then gave me 10L,C and R for takeoff and landing, so that seems to be working...

    Again, use AFCAD or ADE and close down 14/32 for takeoff and landing.

    Also, you'll never get completely rid of AI traffic jams, limitations of FS9... AIs will time out waiting to take off or waiting to cross an active runway trying to taxi to a gate...

    I once tried to edit the taxiways at KATL, to try to force AI to use the V taxiway around 8R, didn't work, they just got stuck and timed out... So on large airports (KATL, KMSP, EHAM...) I turn down AI traffic to 60-80pct.

    DDP.

  11. Hi,

    Try setting the wind from either 100 or 280 at 8 kts.

    If that doesn't work, use a tool like AFCAD or ADE to remove the start locations for runway 14/32.

    Worth a try?

    Or, using above tools close both RWY14 and 32 for takeoff and landing.

    That's what I do with most parallel runway airports like EHAM. Only 36/18L,C and R are in use, I've closed down the others. Doesn't matter where the wind comes from then.

    You can, for example, set up 10R/28L to be used for landing only and both others for takeoff only, or any other combination you prefer. But you have to close both ends of the runway for takeoff, landing or both, or FS9 will ignore it.

  12. Hi,

    Take off from KPDX to the NE towards the Cascade Mountains, and you'll see Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams and of course Mt. St. Helens, with its north flank blown off in the May 1980 eruption that killed 50+ people.

    And there's Iceland, the large glacier in the south is the Katla, the smaller one to the left is the infamous Eyjafjallajökull (the 2010 ash cloud).

    DDP.

  13. Hi,

    I also use FSCaptain (payware) addon. It has an option for realistic weather hazards (icing). One of the devs of FSCaptain once made a gauge to simulate realistic icing.

    https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=83084673

    Check out the icing.txt for a good read about FS icing or the lack thereof...

    In order to use this realistic icing your aircraft needs to have its anti-icing actually working, meaning that flipping the switch also sends the internal FS signal (e.g. in XML ANTI_ICE_TOGGLE_ENG1).

    FSCaptain can test these signals. See below:

    FSC01.PNG

    So, yes, again, pitot was turned on...

    It happened with a.o. FT A320, FT C208B, stock C208B and later also PMDG B1900C and PSS B757.

    If I loaded another WX file in AS6.5 or ASE and I redid the same takoff and SID, problem fixed...

    In the end I didn't bother with it anymore... Random weather engine air pocket or vacuum bubble...?

    It actually increases the realism to have a mini emergency possibility during climbs or descents, and it also happens on approaches...

    And I just found this, made me laugh... And apparently all of the anti-ice was on...

  14. HI,

    AFAIK you just make engine changes in the aircraft.cfg (and AIR?) files. The engines will not change their appearance.

    Thanks, I'll give it a try.

  15. Hi,

    Happens on a regular basis to me as well. Your panel speed indicator will also go to 0kts.

    Here's a screenshot from my VA's ACARS data from some yrs ago, others had this happen also:

    DVA-IAS.png

    See the GS at 310kts.

    And yes, pitot was on. I wonder if that even does anything besides moving a switch and turning on a light...

    I use Active Sky, and by using the same weather data at the same airport I even could reproduce it, same location and altitude... And after about a minute or less everything went back to normal. Never seems to happen at cruise alt. Also aircraft independent, payware or freeware.

    Screenshot was FS9 PMDG737, made the A/T go to full throttle... Had to cut it right away before busting the 250kts speed limit, of which I had no readout of course...

  16. Hi,

    So I've got the basler_bt67_v2.zip file (for FSX). And now???

    I know how to convert FSX DDS to FS9 DXT3.

    Then I replace the FS9 DC-3 MDL file with this one?

    And I edit all the FS9 DC-3 aircraft.cfg engine refs with the ones from the BT67?

    Same with all engine refs in the AIR file?

    Also not forgetting to check stuff like contact points, lights, etc...

    DDP.

  17. Hi,

    I know this has been posted and discussed many times before, but for whatever reasons, I cannot find anything that has worked. Does anyone know how to make the lights on the plan not look light little Christmas Bulbs?

    Maybe the lights are part of your aircraft model? Check the lights section of the aircraft.cfg if they're defined there.

    From the C182:

    [LIGHTS]

    //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit

    light.0 = 3, -3.03, -18.11, 3.58, fx_navred

    light.1 = 3, -3.03, 18.11, 3.58, fx_navgre

    light.2 = 3, -21.45, 0.00, 1.95, fx_navwhi

    light.3 = 2, -3.33, -18.31, 3.58, fx_strobe

    light.4 = 2, -3.33, 18.31, 3.58, fx_strobe

    light.5 = 1, -21.52, 0.00, 7.40, fx_beacon

    Regards,

    DDP.
