  1. I believe that Asobo said on their development roadmap that they are planning on adding seasons sometime later this year. I think they said it was scheduled for Fall 2021. I am hoping for more variety of trees then when they add seasons to the program. I have seen some palm trees flying to some of the islands in the Caribbean and in south Florida. I mainly fly in the northeast and midwest United States in the program though so I have not seen much variety in the trees either, certainly not like what we had in FSX. Hopefully as the program continues to be developed this will improve over time.
  2. Unfortunately this is a worldwide issue with MSFS2020, not just at the US Navy Bases. The problem is that the ships in port are really actually seen by the program as buildings in the water, much like the bridges, and not as ships. They are being generated as photogrammetry buildings from the aerial photographs that are being used from the Bing Maps servers. In areas where the aerial photographs are better they look decent, in areas where the aerial photographs are not as good or where they can not get as many images (like in a large military installation) the ships do not look very good and they look like they are half sunk. I have not tried it but I have seen on flightsim.to that someone has created freeware scenery to replace the half sunk photogrammetry ships in Norfolk with actual 3D models of ships that look correct as well as ship traffic out of many of the major ports around the world. You could try downloading the scenery to make it look better. I hope that this explains what is happening here and why the ships look the way that they do.
  3. I have to admit that other than under the bridges, they don't look too bad during the day. When the bridges really look horrible is at night though when they look like sideways skyscrapers that have fallen into the rivers. While I would like them to be improved during the day as well, what I really would like to see is the bridges fixed for how they look at night.
  4. I have to say that I actually had no problems with completing the flight lessons that were included in the new MSFS 2020, though I have to say that I think the ones in FSX were more comprehensive and were better done than in the new program. As was said before, I have a feeling that they chose Sedona in order to show off the beautiful scenery of the American southwest that the program is capable of generating. I do agree that Sedona may not have been the best airport for them to have chosen for the introductory flight lessons but I did like it for the Landing Challenge. On the positive side of things though, one advantage of Sedona being on a plateau is that if you come in shallow on your approach you have less of a chance of flying into the ground and landing short of the runway since the ground on the approach is well below the level of the runway.
  5. From what I understand, seasons are supposed to be implemented in the simulator sometime next year.
  6. I was just wondering David, did redownloading the World Updates and Landmarks packages fix the problem that you were having?
  7. It sounds like you need to download both the World Updates and the Landmarks packages from the Content Manager. It seems like you are missing one of these, since the East Coast Tour is available to select, I am guessing that you are probably missing the Landmarks package.
  8. I believe that unless you specify what runway you want to use, MSFS 2020 simply determines the active runway using the wind direction so that you are taking of into the wind regardless of what is being used by the actual airport in the real world. You can create a flight plan in the world map that uses the runway that you want to get around this.
  9. Thank you for the update and sharing your work with the community donbouchier. I look forward to seeing what else you create for MSFS 2020.
  10. I think that there is a problem with the ground steering in the flight model as well. I was trying to taxi with the Boeing 747 and noticed that it was turning very sluggishly. I went to the exterior view and noticed that the nosewheel was sliding sideways and not turning in the direction that the nosewheel was pointing, almost as if the plane was sliding on ice. The weather was partly cloudy and well above freezing so the nosewheel should not have been sliding.
  11. donboucher, even if your scenery is not the best you could still upload your version of US Bank Stadium here for anyone who would like it to enjoy. You can always improve on it as you learn the SDK and at least a version would be available for anyone who wants it in the simulator until a better one is created and comes along. Texvindictive, I have also noticed a few buildings that are missing because of the data being a few years old but the scenery in MSFS2020 is much better for VFR flying than the previous versions of Flight Simulator. Long distance flying in the airliners seems to be a whole other issue but I am hoping this will get better as they are continually updating and improving the program. Another issue I have found is bridges like the Egg Harbor Bride for the Garden State Parkway near Ocean City, NJ often go under the water and power plants like Three Mile Island and Limerick which are also often used for navigation landmarks and were in previous versions of Flight Simulator are also missing. I believe ASOBO said in their roadmap update that they are working on getting the AI to generate radio/TV antenna towers though so hopefully the Manayunk antenna farm will be back in MSFS2020 soon.
  12. From what I noticed while flying in my area around Philadelphia PA, the Bing maps data that they are using seems to be from around 2015. I noticed that the Movie Tavern movie theater near my brother's house in Exton is still under construction in the simulator. The Movie Tavern opened in late 2015 so the imagery that they are using must be from sometime shortly before then. I have to say though that the Photogrammetry scenery that they are using is really amazing though even if it is a few years old. The Philadelphia area is much better than what it was in previous versions and the simulator really is great for low level VFR flying in the general aviation aircraft. Flying the jets and airliners at high altitude and using the ATC system could really use some improvement though so I hope that those will be fixed sometime soon. It was much easier to fly the airliners in FSX. It is also nice to finally have the stadiums in south Philadelphia back in the game as well. The stadiums have been missing since FS2002, Microsoft never replaced Veterans Stadium when it was demolished in 2003 with either Lincoln Financial Field or Citizens Bank Park which replaced it. If you live in Philadelphia you love your sports teams so it was really great to see the entire sports complex back in the game in high definition. Especially since the stadiums are practically right under the approach path for Philadelphia International Airport's runways 27L and 27R so it was noticeable that they were not there. Not that I want to be advertising another site over flightsim.com but have you checked out the site http://www.flightsim.to ? They have been adding a lot of scenery enhancements to MSFS2020 for download that are not available here including a lot of the stadiums that are missing from the program. I know one of the scenery developers has been creating scenery for the Big Ten Universities so they might have some of the Minnesota landmarks that you are looking for as well. They also have a really nice interactive map to help you find scenery for the area that you are interested in. It would be nice if the files could be hosted here as well though because I prefer using this site, but unfortunately that is up to the creators of the content. Asobo has posted on the official Microsoft Flight Simulator Forum that they are working on a World Update for the United States similar to what they did for Japan so maybe it might be included when that is released as well. Hopefully this might help you with what you are looking for.
  13. Fortunately the area where I live and work is one of the featured Hi-Resolution Photogrametry areas that they featured in the program, Abington PA just north of Philadelphia. This means that my home and the school where I teach are both there in pretty high detail and yes my cars are in the simulator as well, though not quite as highly detailed. I am still amazed at how realistic everything looks in the program and once they get all of the issues worked out it will be a great simulator. My neighborhood has a lot of trees though and it is hard to see my house underneath the large oak and maple trees that are in my yard, but it is definitely there.
  14. I am glad that I was able to help clear it up for you. I have also found that different aircraft stall at different throttle settings. One thing that you could try to keep from falling out of the sky is to apply 100% throttle before hitting Active Pause. If the throttle is at maximum power then the sim should see your aircraft as accelerating and keep it from stalling when you turn off the Active Pause. I think that this might solve the problem that you are having with the aircraft nose diving into the ground when you resume flying.
  15. From what I understand Stanley, with the active pause feature the world keeps moving around you including time, weather, other aircraft, etc. I think that is why it is called active pause, because the rest of the world is still active. An interesting quirk that I have noticed is that this seems to also apply to your aircraft. The sim will take the state that your aircraft is in and extend it out to when you turn off the active pause. If you are accelerating when you hit active pause you will find your aircraft going faster and if you are slowing down you will be below stall speed and fall to the ground when you turn off the active pause. This is what I have noticed with using the active pause anyway. Before turning it on I make sure that my throttle is at least 60%, enough to maintain airspeed, and then I do not have problems when I turn the active pause off.
  16. This seems to happen because the world around you is not paused while you are. If your throttle is too low the simulator calculates that your aircraft is still slowing down while you are in active pause. Then when you resume the simulator and exit the active pause your airspeed is too low causing you to stall and crash into the ground. I have found that if you increase the throttle to a high enough setting before hitting active pause that I don't stall and crash when I turn the pause off. Maybe that may help you to avoid crashing when using the active pause.
  17. Stinger, is this only happening since the last update? When I installed the last update, I noticed the quality of the scenery was lower as well, looking a lot like FSX. I double checked my settings and found that the update had turned off the Photogrammetry Bing Scenery. I clicked the option to turn it back on and then everything looked great again. Now, if they can only get the external camera to stop from going crazy and crashing the sim whenever I try to land or take off from my home airfield of Willow Grove NAS/JRB just north of Philadelphia PA it would be great.
  18. I would like to add to stinger2k2's response that you have to request ground service from the tower using the radio while parked at a gate. If you request a jetway, then the main door opens, if you request a baggage delivery or food service then the lower baggage doors open for the delivery, etc. It is entirely different f
  19. I have an X52 controller which I configured to use in Flight Simulator 2020. When I use the controller and throttle it moves the control surfaces of my plane but then they get stuck. For example, if I pull back on the stick the elevator moves to pitch the plane up but when I release the stick the elevator continues to pitch the plane up putting it into a loop or stall. If I push the stick forward the elevator moves to lower the pitch but when I release the stick the elevator continues to pitch down putting the plane into a dive. The same thing happens with the ailerons and rudder. If I push the stick left or right the plane rolls but when I release the stick the roll continues increasing making it crash into the ground. A similar thing happens with the throttle. When I move the throttle forward or backwards it only seems to go instantly to full throttle or cuts the throttle to zero. It doesn’t gradually increase or decrease the throttle like it should be doing. Does anyone know why Flight Simulator 2020 is doing this or how to fix it. How do I get the control surfaces to recenter themselves when I release and center the control stick. I don’t know why it is not working since the X52 is one of the devices that Microsoft recommended using for Flight Simulator 2020. Please help me with figuring out why it is not working, thank you.
