  1. Hi,

Thanks for all the positive comments, just a quick update, I have left all the settings as they

were, have added the fantastic freeware EGHA, which is where I have spent many hours RWF

and have now clocked up about 5 hours VFR bumming around sightseeing in the trusty 152,

with the result that I am now completely hooked, I just love it, no stutters, no scenery popping

up, no repeat ground textures, just the joy of flying, which is surely what flightsim is all about?

I know I don't have a system that will run everything on ultra, bit having used this sim, I don't

need that, I am just very happy to have a sim that just does what is supposed to do without the

    fuss and bother.

As far as the naysayers are concerned, I am realistic enough to know that at some time in the

future I will have a hiccup, but with the help of this forum, I will deal with it as when when it

happens, until then, I am just going to enjoy what for me is fantastic sim experience that I am

finding difficult to stay away from, I always said that work has a serious impact on my social

    life:D, now wheres that sicknote!;)

Many thanks for all your positive comments and help, happy simming:D

    cheers

    Richard

  2. Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the link, wow, what a site that is, so glad I took the plunge and despite all my

payware addons, and finally getting it to run reasonably well, I definitely wont be going back to

FSX. That's not to say FSX is a bad sim, I have spent many happy hours flying with payware AC,

ORBX scenery etc, but it was of it's time and I like to embrace the future, after all, I wouldn't go

back to Floppy Discs, Serial Ports, Dot Matrix Printers and green screen CRT monitors;)

Like it's predecessor, FSX is still a great sim and will live on for many years, but for me it was

time to let it go. I know there will be hiccups and bumps in the road ahead with 2020, but that

has been the same for all of the previous incarnations of our Fightsims, but with all the help and

knowledge that is shared in this forum, I feel confident we will eventually overcome them all.

Cheers and happy flying to you all,

    Richard

  3. Hi all,

I finally decided to take the plunge and try out our new sim, and just wanted to

share my thoughts so far with it.

I did a fresh W10 install, got rid of the crap apps I don't need, disabled the other

crap I don't need then installed the MSFS app from steam to my "C" drive in it's

default folder. I re-installed my Avast Antivirus programme and was then ready to

    go.

I then bought and downloaded the deluxe steam version and installed into a new

folder on a dedicated SSD drive. The download was approx 120gb and it took about

6 hours to install, and this went without a hitch. Once this was done I fired up the sim

and spent a bit of time with interface. It has configured the settings based on my

specs, and this seems fine at the moment. I did a couple of the sightseeing flights

which went well, so I then created a flight from EGTE, which is my nearest airport

and just bumbled around the local area, and I have to say I am absolutely stunned!

Even without tweaking or buggering around, IMHO, this sim is a quantum leap ahead

of the rest, and for me, it just works! It looks fantastic and even with the recommended

settings, I loved it straightaway and am so glad I took the plunge, and at the moment

have no regrets, fingers crossed it stays that way;)

I know people will say the aircraft modelling is not as good as sim A" or sim "B" or sim "C"

but so what, for me it is a natural progression from FSX, and I just I happen to think its

great, and it just seems to work, so I am going to give it the time it deserves, and although

I have enjoyed the previous versions, it's just time for me to move on.

One interesting point is, I forgot to unplug my CH Yoke and Rudder Pedals, but guess what,

it picked them up no problem and they work fine, all I need to do is reconfigure some of the

axis and button assignments to how I like them and I will be very happy.

Now where is all that add on scenery I want?

    Cheers

    Richard

  4. Hi all,

I think that after just over a year I am ready to take the plunge and go

with MFS2020. I would be installing via steam and have a good steady

    50mbs internet connection.

My questions are, will I be able to use my CH Yoke and Pedals, does it have

a decent weather engine built in and are the computer specs in my signature

gonna be good enough to run MFS2020 at a reasonable level,

I would like to embrace our new simulator, but don't want to be spending

to much to update peripherals etc at the moment,

    cheers

    Richard

  5. Hi,

Might be worth having a look at this page, if you scroll down about 3/4 of the way,

you will find a very good description of the page file and how best to set up, this is

just a short extract of the article.

I have used Nick Needham's guides in all my FS installs, and for me they just work:)

"I am going to add a lot of information below about the Windows Page File because

there are far too many myths and far too many nonsense instructions on the internet

about this subject. If you set the page file as I defined in STEP #9 above you can skip

this next section and move on to SPECIAL SECTION FOR SSD WINDOWS DRIVES, or,

you can review the information I posted below if you would like to educate yourself on

    the subject.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE WINDOWS PAGE FILE:

With respect to a game system or any typical single user computer with mechanical

hard drives, the ONLY DRIVE a page file should be located on is the Windows drive.

It is a MYTH and COMPLETELY FALSE that moving the Windows page file OR turning

the page file OFF will make Windows run better.

Please do NOT FALL INTO THE: 'I Must Tune the Page File" trap!

Let me make something perfectly clear.. PAGE FILE TUNING is for disk space conservation,

nothing else. Setting it TOO LOW with low system memory and high application demand on

system memory is not good. If you run out of system memory, install more memory don't

    make a larger page file!

PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT FACT: there is NO SUCH THING AS A PAGE FILE THAT IS TOO BIG

and that a large page file makes Windows run poor. The only downfall is, it takes up drive space,

that is all!. A system can have an entire 1TB drive dedicated to a Windows page file (which of course

is ridiculous) and it will NOT SLOW NOR MAKE WINDOWS FASTER regardless of the demand.

Running FSX with all addons and Windows does NOT require any more than 6GB-8GB of physical

memory. IF you are short of memory your system needs MORE MEMORY and not a page file move.

Purchase more memory and do not move the page file, AND, make sure the version of Windows

in use SUPPORTS the amount of memory you need! "

  6. Hi

Im getting invalid serial number also with my D18 and C421 on installation

I have to ask, where did you guys buy these addons from, and how long ago, there may be a

problem with the vendors system that prevents you from verifying your purchase, but in

any event I think you may need to supply some more information for anybody to help you;)

  7. Hi Proop,

    Hi Richard,

How I can uninstall it? I never managed to install it:D

I put my email and serial id but always I got ERROR message.

I saw your PM before I saw this, I didn't realise you had not been able to

install it at all;), I will PM you again later, by the way, what operating system

are you using, and which FSX have you got installed, that info will always

    help,

    cheers

  8. Hi Proop

    Hi there!

I bought Carenado Seneca V FSX last week and when I put my email and serial ID to the installer it says serial ID is not valid. I shut down my firewalls and proxy settings. Still same problem. Carenado helpdesk said that I have to use uninstaller which is located inside the simulator’s main root folder.

I don't get it what is the uninstaller. Is there another uninstaller or whats that mean? I mean that when some add-ons have own uninstaller but I got after installing.

    Cheers,

I have the Carenado Seneca V and if you have to uninstall it you will need to go to:

Control Panel, Programmes and features and then scroll down until you see

PA34 Seneca V, if you highlight it, you can uninstall it and try to install again,

    :SenecaV.jpg

    Hope this might help

    Cheers

  9. Hi

Try typing http://www.projectai.com into the search window of The Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/

I just downloaded an FS2004 Frontier package as a test, so the links are still working.

Many thanks for the reply, I had a good look at this site, and the Dash8 100/200 is about

the only one that has not been saved:(, so no luck, but thanks for the suggestion,

    cheers

  10. Hi,

Just wondered if any of you guys know where I can find the base model

for the FSP/PAI Dash 8 100/200 Series Paint Kit, I have the blank

texture kit, but have not been able to find the aircraft model itself :(, and

I know that Project AI no longer exist.

If this is not available, does anyone know of an alternative AI Dash 8 100/200,

as I need to get some AI paints done a bit sharpish,

Cheers in advance for any help,

  12. Hi

    Hello Everybody!

I am currently taking flights lessons in a 1959 Cessna 172. I just recently bought the SimFlight3D 1958 172 and I was wondering if someone would be willing to do a repaint of my training aircraft for me. I have included pictures of the aircraft below. (Different from the pictures however, I would like the propeller spinner and wheel pants to be white, as the owner just recently painted them) Just message on here if you would be interested.

    Thanks!

Have sent you PM re paintkit

  13. Hi,

If you don't want to go down the steam route, it might quicker just to

carry out a reset, and get it back to the factory settings, then you can

start again. This is quite an easy thing to do in W10, as you should

have a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains all the required

    software to do this.

    Disks.jpg

To find out if you have something like the above, just go to control panel,

administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management

and if you have you can likely reset your PC. To do this go to settings, update and

security, recovery, reset this pc, just be sure to back up any files you may need

before you do the reset, but I am assuming you don't have much on this PC at the

    moment.

    Reset.jpg

I know it may seem a bit extreme, but it should delete all files and registry entries,

thus giving you a clean install, and get you back to square one in a reasonably short

time. If your not happy doing it, perhaps you could get the PC manufacturer to do

    it for you.

    just my 5 happence;)

    cheers

  15. Thank you! That looks good. And now for a quick trip over to Steam to ask where exactly to Unzip this puppy. I have never installed anything that did not come from the Steam store, which all happens behind the scenes by auto-magic.

    Hi Rebrecs,

You just need to install it in C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes

and if it uses an installer, it should put everything in the correct place, obviously C: is

dependant on where your FSX-SE is installed.

If it does not use an installer you can just install it manually, ie: Aircraft in Aircraft Folder,

Gauges in Gauges Folder, Effects in Effects Folder, and sometimes there may be a sound

file to go in the main Sound Folder, but there should be some install docs in the folder

I have downloaded and installed the Alphasim file below, and it does not include an installer,

but there are pretty clear instructions on how to install included, and you won't have to worry

about the gauges as they are in the panel folder already, which is how I do it, and it is a great

    looking aircraft!

And I am sure if you need any more help that will never be a problem, there will always be

    someone here to help.

    Hope this helps

  17. Hi Guinart,

Thanks for that, I love your old birds, especially the EMB-110, as I used to fly a P2 back

in the early 1990s, over 2000 hours in the cockpit. I think it is a great model and a credit to

you, very much appreciated. Over here in the UK we called it "The Transit of the sky", an

affectionate reference to the Ford Transit van, a very common sight in this country, noisy,

smelly, but will get the job done;) so what if the PT6's used to flame out occasionally:eek:

it always got us home safely, and it was so easy to fly, I love it.

Look forward to the update, take care and stay safe,

    Cheers

  18. Hi Inuss,

The problem with doing that is that you are forcing the scenery to be on the C: drive. My scenery is on the D: drive, but if you want you can make a shortcut on the desktop to the actual scenery folder you are using, whether it's the original add-on folder or something else that you choose, and it won't fill up your C: drive with scenery.

Of course you are quite right, I should have said the folders are on a separate SSD and like you

I have created shortcuts to the relevant folders:o

posts have been lifted from there and pasted in here LOL;), its just life, some love it, some hate it and

  20. Hi,

I have an FSX scenery folder on my desktop and make up individual folders

for each scenery. Just make a New York scenery folder, and put that into the FSX Scenery

folder on your desktop, then add the scenery folder for each area you want to add, then

make a Washington scenery folder and do likewise. You can also put Traffic bgl files in

these folders as well, just make up your traffic file, put it in a scenery folder, activate it,

    and away you go.

You should end up with the following folder structure, I have the following:

Main Folder = FSX Scenery (on desktop)

Sub Folder = New York Scenery > Scenery Folders >> Manhattan, JFK, La-Guardia, etc

Sub Folder = New Jersey Scenery > Scenery Folders > NJ GA Airports, Newark, Teteborough etc

Sub Folder = Nepal Scenery > Scenery Folders > Lukla, Lukla Traffic, etc

FSX is not bothered where the add on scenery is, you just add it by finding the path in

scenery manager, and don't forget if you are using Windows 7 or 10 that to add the

folder you will need to right click on the white area in the explorer window, it's a quirk

    in W7 / W10.

I put my scenery folders on my desktop as I find it easier to work with that way, but

it doesn't matter where they are, as long as its not in programme files x86

    Hope this makes sense

    cheers

  21. Hi Luscombe,

Just my 5 cents, but I installed FSX-SE two years ago, and have never looked back,

and whilst I still run FSX as test setup, all of my flying is done in Steam, and I have

never had any issues, I have had to re-install twice due to PC issues, but no fuss or

drama in either install, you could do a lot worse than going down the Steam route.

Check out FSX-SE at the link below,
