  1. Tim, my original post was not about opinions or protests, which are certainly a legitimate part of every forum. Rather, it was about one individual single-handedly causing thread after thread to end up locked, which penalizes everybody. This is deliberate disruption and should have no place in the forums.
  2. I couldn't agree more, but based on what we know, it won't happen, unfortunately.
  3. Opinions are not the problem here. It is the repeated termination of useful and interesting threads because of one person. That's the issue.
  4. Once again, the familiar scenario is repeated: a thread that starts with an innocent question is brought to a halt because of one individual whose interest in MSFS is solely to trash it (though he has never actually tried it). Is this something that must be tolerated forever, or is there a solution? I leave that to the moderators to decide.
  5. Not to disparage older sims such as FS9 and FSX, which were great in their day, but it really is not close. Flat areas such as those in the posted screenshots don't begin to tell the full story. If you compare cities, mountainous and coastal areas, etc., to MSFS, the differences are obvious, and huge.
  6. Not to worry -- they are well known in the forums. Just use them as comic relief.
  7. You are absolutely right that MSFS is a quantum leap ahead in flight simulation. I started with FS2 forty years ago and have seen them all, or most anyway, and nothing remotely like this has existed in the past. As you explore the world in a much more realistic way than was possible before, you will be continually blown away! It is amazing and then some. But be aware that this is a work in progress, not a finished product by any means, and there will likely be glitches to deal with along the way (for example, the mandatory updates can cause frustration for some). But it's worth it, believe me. Patience is the watchword. Welcome aboard!
  8. I think you just identified yourself! Your choice.
  9. Cautionary note to newbies: beware of posts from an individual posing as an expert on a certain flight sim but who has never actually used it, incredible as that may seem! (Well known to regular users of this and other forums).
  10. You are correct. And ignore commentary about any program from individuals who have never actually used it and simply have no idea what they are talking about. Just ridiculous.
  11. The OP said he could not find the airport anywhere. I was responding to that -- just trying to help.
  12. To find any airport, just google it. Took me 3 seconds to find EGSS this way.
  13. Addon linker solves the problem since it loads only links into Community. In other words, with AL your Community folder is always empty (except for the links).
  14. If you use addon linker you will never have this problem, because nothing other than links will ever occupy Community. AL saves so much grief!
  15. This thread has digressed so far from the original post that it seems well worth revisiting. A remarkable statement, and much appreciated!
  16. I think it has little to do with MSFS per se. My guess is that those who do this -- which is as illogical as writing movie reviews without ever seeing the films, or book reviews without reading the books, relying solely on quotes from others (selectively negative of course) -- have deeper problems. But I am not a psychiatrist and will defer to the experts on this.
  17. With all respect to those who don't use Addon Linker, let me just say this. For me, the "hassle" of setting it up -- which took maybe 30 minutes at most to organize my addons in a convenient file structure -- has been well worth it in all the time I have saved and "hassles" avoided since then. (Note that AL detects potential issues such as duplicate or conflicting files, etc., which are then easily fixed). What I wonder is, those who don't use the linker, but have many addons, must have some way of organizing them, right? It is a bit hard to imagine what could be more efficient than the linker, but as is often said here, to each his own.
  18. To reiterate what JSkorna said: use Addon linker! No need to empty Community and and refill for updates, since there is nothing in there anyway except links, and they are not affected by updates. Life is so much simpler with Addon Linker!
  19. Try turning off photogrammetry. I have never seen melted buildings when it is turned off. Is this a general problem that you find in many places around the world, or is it limited to a few cities (which I assume would be photogrammetry cities)?
  20. Welcome to MSFS! The basic answer to your question is that MSFS is a completely different program from FSX, and transferring settings from one to the other is not possible. You need to go into the controls settings in MSFS and set the keyboard and joystick commands (among others) to suit your needs. This can be time-consuming especially at first, but as I recall, back in the early days of FSX we had to do the same thing.
  21. Hmmm. I found only one folder named "fs-base" (where this is the full name), (in Offical/OneStore), and in it is a file named "en-US.locPak". Seems pretty straightforwatd to me.
