  1. No I don't think the size of the airport matters but I do suspect something else taking another look at your screenshot none of the other files has a suffix (like .bgl) but your file has one even if it is wrong. Check the original name of your proprietary file as it may have an extra period in the name. That would cause the compiler to fail.

    It's worth a look.

  2. Neil,

That's the best thing to do as they do respond in a couple of days max. As far as Cloud 9 stuff the original company turned off the registration servers so nobody can use their airports any more according to FSDT. The problem with the FSDT stuff you are having is another matter. I am interested to see what they say too.

    Good luck!

  3. If I may ask a dumb question: Did you only save the ADE file or did you also compile it? I don't know your level of experience with ADE but I have seen some folks make this mistake before.

It's a great feature that ADE saves the file first in a proprietary format without changing or affecting anything in the sim so you can create complex designs and pause for a break without messing anything up. When you are ready then you must compile.

Maybe some more information of exactly what is happening would help.

  4. Sorry, but creating an airport with Afcad 221 is like creating it in the dark. IMO, best tool is by far AD

FX Airport Facilitator X of Flight1. It's a payware tool, but worse the price. It as interface with a WYSISWYG mode. That means, you see exactly where your runways, taxiways, parkings and so on are placed.

    Have a look here: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=afxv1

While creating an airport in the nowhere, you certainly have to flatten the area.

AFX is a fine afcad creation program but if you really want a powerful program with numerous advantages over AFCAD2 and AFX check out: https://www.scruffyducksoftware.com/

Airport Design Editor is a free very feature rich program that does everything the aforementioned programs do and so much more. Like AFX you can create exclusion rectangles to delete default objects that are in the way.

One of the nice features is that is saves first to a proprietary format so that you can build complex designs without effecting the active airport until you are ready to compile.

I recommend you check it out!

By the way the original afcad program creates flattens whenever you make a runway.

  5. I assume you have the program AFCAD2 already installed on your system. When you open it up select the help menu and there you will find all the information you will ever need.

Starting an airport from scratch is section 52 if you want to jump to it.

Once you have read it and understand the material and you still have questions this is as good as anyplace to ask.

    Best of luck to you!

  6. Mike Stone and his aircraft were wonderful free additions to our FS world. It is unconscionable to see all of the criticism he got from some corners of the hobby.

Thanks Robin for the link as I lost most of his stuff in a hard drive crash!

  7. I have always gotten that for add-on airports, especially those with custom ground textures since using FS9. I just accepted it as "oh well got to live with it". I would definitely be interested to see if somebody has a solution for this one.
  8. Tom,

Yep. If I knew how to load a pic on here I could show you an AI plane about to take off and the windsock behind it showing it is taking off downwind.

Roger, there's an insert image button right there and you can upload an image into your posts that way.

  9. Some months ago I was able to do the update to Win 10 on my existing Win 7 machine. It went pretty smooth and all of my FS9 stuff works like before (with a few one time tweaks) including my old repaint model displaying programs. The only glitch so far is getting Instant Scenery to take after I do a scenery mod. I will figure it out eventually.

I am not sure about a fresh install of Windows 10 and then installing FS9 on that. I heard there are numerous problems with that.

  10. I don't know if it would work now because you reinstalled the program but usually I do a "system restore" from a restore point before I had the problems. That usually does the trick. I guess it would be worth a try before you go crazy with other remedies. Also Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7 and will be no help (not that they were much help before that).

    Good luck.

  11. Casey,

If you are inclined to go at this yourself there is other things to consider other than just learning how to make the flight plans. You have to lay some groundwork too. I see Mike's models cover several eras of B-52' from the 50's all the way to present. So you want to figure out which of those you want flying unless you want everything which of course is your choice.

Also you need to figure out the actual flights you want the aircraft to take such as starting point airport (which you already know) and destination or just TNG's or a combination of both. You can also choose weekly plans where they do something different each day of the week or a 24 hour plan where the same thing occurs every day.

    Just food for thought...

  12. Well then let's remove all the freeware content for FS9 and everyone make their own and if not make it, go buy it.

So you have no freeware content in your FS9 you did not create???

That's not what I am saying, you miss the point. I didn't ask anyone to make the stuff or put it up for downloading. If it's available I use it, if not I try to create it myself. If I can't I live without it or open my wallet and purchase it if available.

I am absolutely with you on doing everything possible to keep FS9 alive 100%

  13. @Skywatcher12

That looks like a very cool place.

If you really want to get the ball rolling on this head on over to https://www.alpha-india.net/forums/ and make the suggestion. That's where 99% of the ai producers hang out and they have plenty of work dating back to when FS9 was just a youngster.

    You never know...

Bring your flak jacket just in case though.

  14. Repainting an airline livery with a freeware paint on a freeware model where there is no profit being made or claiming it is your original design in not illegal. See how many airlines have tried to make lawsuits for such things (hint 0). When the Traffic programs first came out like MyTraffic the only airline that had blocked their livery from usage was American Airlines.

I am also curious about when you said "most of us don't have the time" to do whatever. This is a hobby and it is done in your spare time because that is how you enjoy spending it. If you want instant gratification then that's what payware is for.

I was on hiatus from producing anything for 2 years because real life stepped in and I didn't have the time. I didn't ask anyone to do my hobby for me.

Hey I'm not trying to be confrontational just that is my perspective on this. Honestly any time I was asked if somebody could include my work in something (like Orbix traffic) I said yes without hesitation.

My 2 cents if its even worth that. :p

  15. I think it is well past the time we used the same approach for FS9.

Sorry but that's not going to happen. The ai community is VERY strict and self policed about sharing the work of others without permission. Even the folks doing conversion packages like MAIW will only convert stuff that they have permission for.

It has been tried a few times and each time met with widespread scorn and ISP's taking down the websites that offered the material.

  16. Dear douga66,

I had posted asking for help how I can create traffic for Mr Person's MAIW B-52s 1-12 I have all of

the B-52s for FS9 can you help me create traffic for them?

    Thank You

    Casey

I can tell you that the best way is to learn how to make them yourself. I learned over time starting many years ago and that was when only TTools was available for the most part.

A great tool available now is the terrific Ai Flight Planner available here http://stuff4fs.com/open.asp?Folder=AIFP&JS=TRUE

There is a bit of a learning curve but I would be happy to help with that. Check it out you might just get addicted. ;)

  17. I wish people would start to share some of these things. It would be fun to try out what others have put together and would help keep FS9 alive.

There are tons of ai resources out there with paints, flight plans, afcads, etc. I know lots of the real heavy fan sights are fanatical about keeping up and creating for the newest sims but there are still others that make FS9 versions of their work (I'm mostly a FS9 diehard).

It is possible to convert some repaints to FS9 as long as the original model was native to FS9.

I have some links to those websites and blogs in my links page and from there you can find links to many others.

PS: Almost everything I have done is shared freely with the public.

  18. If I remember correctly the program mostly adds aircraft, flight plans and afcad files. There is also a module to edit and create your own flight plans using their syntax (which just lays over the 3 file flight plan syntax). So all you would have to do is deactivate the folder with the afcads, remove the flight plans and aircraft folders. I think it also adds some extra voices for ATC which harms nothing if you don't use them.

Someone could correct me if I am wrong. It was a long time ago (and 2 hard drives gone) since I used the program.
