  1. Thanks all, I had seen a trailer for the new MS sim on youtube, it does look very nice indeed - but then so did MS Flight. Will reserve judgement until it's out. In the mean time, I've downloaded x-plane 11 and quite impressed, will explore this product for a bit.
  2. Yeah, I was looking at orgx, they have some seriously sneaky pricing structures clearly designed to extract as much as possible from their customers. You'd almost think they were only in it for the money!
  3. Hi, After not having a PC for many years, I've just got a nice new mid-range gaming PC. Just installed FSX and it's wonderful to be able to max-out nearly all the settings (couldn't get anywhere near that on my previous core2duo PC). One thing that also struck me was how bad the default scenery looks though, back in the day I recall having GEX, UTX, REX, and some mesh that iirc was called FSGlobal. Should I bother searching my loft for my old installation DVDs/download codes for these, or have things moved on since then? What is the best bang-for-buck scenery upgrade these days? Thanks all.
  4. I had Saitek rudder pedals a while back and got fed up with them, ended up preferring just the twist joystick - which actually feels very natural to me when turning. But thinking about it further, I don't recall using rudder pedals in a real PA28, nor in a full 737 sim as feeling that great either (would have preferred twist handles on the yoke), and braking with them even worse. Maybe it's me and I'm just uncoordinated, a typical gamer, only good with hand-eye. Weird that for all my efforts to get the flight sim experience as real as possible, I'm happy to ditch one of the key physical movements all real pilots have to master.
  5. After months of analysis paralysis I've finally ordered this PC from pcspecialist, it's in production, and is too late to change now. I still have my 8-year old 24" LCD monitor that I used for simming before, but feel with this new PC I might be able to go for something bigger, better, or maybe multi-monitor? What monitor size/features would be worth going for, and what would be beyond my PC to appreciate and therefore a waste of money? I'll probably get xplane 11 also.
  6. Trying to decide on specs for a new PC, and finding it extremely difficult to make a judgement because there always seems to be that 'pay a little bit extra and get improvement x' consideration. Is there any consensus on where the point of diminishing returns is when choosing GPUs, CPUs, RAM, SSDs? i.e. looking at the xplane 11 recommended specs: CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K at 3.5 ghz or faster. RAM: 16 GB. VIDEO CARD: DirectX 12-capable video card from NVIDIA, AMD w/4 GB VRAM. If I go for an i7 9600k that costs twice as much (for sake of argument, I've actually not checked), will the FPS be twice as good? and will I really notice and enjoy the increased FPS twice as much? Perhaps the point of diminishing returns is indeed the Recommended Specs? But then the publisher wants to sell the product, so probably lower them to not put off buyers. My requirements are: 1. Should support three 22" monitors 2. Decent terrain textures, weather, and mesh (I like to do a lot of low mountain flying) 3. Not too bothered about buildings, trees, cars, other aircraft.
  7. thanks Mark, the PC spec under my signature was from my old computer that I've since sold (so just deleted it from my signature). Wondering what kind of budget would I need for a PC and GPU (second hand) that could support a 3 screen spanned view (with same criteria as mentioned before). Had a look at your YT channel btw, awesome setup you have.
  8. Looking to get back into FSX after being on a break for a few years. Need to buy a PC and monitors (second hand). I specifically want three 22" monitors because that's about as big as they could be and still fit my desk. For now I'm not that bothered about 3d objects (trees, cars, buidings), nor getting frame rates above 30, and forget about 4k, but I do care about terrain mesh density (sharp peaks, not rounded hills). How do multi monitor setups work with GPUs? I see many GPUs have a DVI, VGA, and HDMI output - does it matter if each monitor uses a different input? Or should I look only for GPUs with 3 DVIs? (I can pickup some old DVI/VGA only flatscreen monitors for peanuts). How important is it that the monitors be identical? Plan is for the central monitor to be front view and instrument panel, and left and right just the side window views.
