FWIW, plane is a Davis D-1, forty or so were made 1929-1930, about a dozen still exist, "several are still airworthy".  A modified Davis with 120hp engine won the 1930 National Air Race.

Also there are other operating systems out there not called Windows.

And they do not natively run windows programming.  Linux is popular, but you must be a programming genius to configure emulators to run windows programs ....if indeed they will run them.  There is no alternative to windows for which you can simply install and run your favorite software, thus no viable competition.  Just look at all the anti-trust issues Microsoft faces as they continually buy out competitors, unfortunately they have the financial clout to buy their way out of all such problems.  Aren't you glad MS did not develop the automobile.

  3. Yes, I am always wrong.

Mac is not competition to Microsoft because they do not run the same software.   If there were an option to windows that would run the same software then Microsoft would have competition.

You have an option of what TV to buy because they all receive the same channels;  you have an option what car to buy because they all run on the same highways;  there is no option to Microsoft ...so they dictate the market.

The old adage "build a better mousetrap" apparently doesn't mean much to whomever decides what we get in MSFS2020. Not being able to save flights (like in the past) and lack of "INSTANT Replay"(also like in the past) are two key omissions that should be addressed. Surely, they sold enough copies of 2020 to give the buyers these features...and more!

Remember this is Microsoft we are dealing with.  They have no interest in what the consumer wants, they will dictate what you buy and how you use it.

The best thing that could happen to the computer industry would be for Microsoft to have competition.

Ditto.  I would prefer having it on but it doesn't affect AI aircraft and I was tired of going down in flames during approach when an AI flew through me and continued to land unscathed ....I want the AI scathed also!

Thanks for the info on finding those invisible walls, I've dumped a couple of add-on airports due to plowing into them.

  6. Haven't flown the Canal Zone in ages;  mostly default scenery with GEPro textures and an old mod that enhances the locks ...nothing to see here, move along.  Also haven't flown this plane in ages, a reminder that I never finished the panel work and the trim control is too coarse.

    Untitled1.jpg.87cf661fa005c355338a8dc9a7516568.jpg

Only a couple dozen of these planes were made, almost all sold in the US, all to private pilots;  so this is a thoroughly fictional livery, but it's sharp.

The first batch of ships.  Base transit fee for a small boat (less than 65ft.) is around $1600, this includes a certified canal pilot who takes command of your vessel for the duration;  if you do not have the necessary lines they are provided ...for a fee;  if your crew is not knowledgeable of the canal requirements, help is available ...for a fee;  there is a mandatory inspection fee of $75 for every vessel before it enters the area.  Cruise ships were once charged by number of berths, today it is by length and displacement, averaging about $60,000;  a large cargo ship can pay over $300,000.  Several people have swam the distance, not illegal but you must get special permission ...and pay the transit fee, around $1 (not stated whether they also had to pay the inspection fee).

    Untitled5.jpg.3ee475c85e107cbb84078ef50fbe3c4f.jpg

In 2023 rainfall was far below average, so lock operation was slowed greatly.  Many ships had to wait days for passage;  one company offered to pay to bump the line and be the next ship through, it was allowed ...but cost them nearly $4 million.  Private boats pay an average of $75/day for dock space while they wait, large ships lie at anchor just offshore;  cruise ships often return to their departure port rather than wait.

I'm sure the marketing dept at Ford cares.  Anyone selling any product should be as interested in why someone would not buy that product as in why they would buy it.

Therein lies the rub.  There is no virus, something the software here is doing is perceived as malicious, or at least suspicious, by our browsers.  Everything I have downloaded here the past few months has been blocked as containing a virus, I override the block then scan the download, it is clean;  a couple of times I have uploaded the files for an online scan ...all clean.

Microsoft is a financial company whose priority is the logic of shareholders.
What is happening to Boeing is due to this unavoidable fact: it is no longer an engineering company, but a financial company

Sadly this is the basis of our modern world.  Everything is geared towards higher dividends for investors ...at the expense of everything else.

In the US we pay exorbitant electric bills because the vast majority of power companies are investor owned (all too often by people who do not even live in this country).  I am a big fan of auto racing, but it has been ruined by "sponsors" (investors) who now dictate the rules, the cars, the tracks, even the drivers.  Friends who are fans of football complain that it is more about business than sport today.  This will only get worse in the foreseeable future as the major effect of someone making money is they want to make more money.

Nice to hear you can continue enjoying your hobby without catering to Microsoft (the best thing that could happen to the computer industry would be for Microsoft to have competition).

  10. Apparently this is a popular tourist area, I wonder if there's an extra fee for this flight as a thrill ride.  I see no way of approaching NZMF that wouldn't have a major "pucker factor" in RL.

  11. Whoever posts first will be posting spoilers.  I can only say about NZMF ...."MF" is the operative term.  Only a moron would build a runway here, and only an idiot would fly to it;  but the world is full of both.  I did the flight in a Diamond Katana, though an autogyro would be ideal;  53 minutes to go 40 miles.  More later (must attend an online game now).

    Exactly.

(I was just too lazy to start a d/l and make screenshots.)

And since this is the only site giving me this problem (and it started fairly recently) I feel it has something to do with the library here, not my browser.

  14. It isn't just google, it has something to do with the download section of this site.  Firefox also blocks downloads, claiming they have a virus ...but they do not.  I override the block and get the download, it passes all local scans, even an online scan (sadly, no longer virustotal).  This is something those behind the scenes need to address.

I miss the days when schools would either let you stay home to watch a launch or they would project the TV in the auditorium for all to watch (yes TV, no computers or internet at that time). I watched every launch from Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and the early shuttles.

Unfortunately the Columbia incident, the over televised shots of the explosion and the shocked families at Canaveral, accelerated the already decreasing public support for these missions. That was seen by many as the same type of event as the Hindenburg and the Concord crashes. I hope that the the new budding interest in space continues to grow and people can share the joy and wonder I did during those early years.

A weekday in May, 1961.  Miss Hill's second grade class in South Pittsburg TN.  We all come in to find one of those 23" B/W metal case TV sets on a 4ft tall roll-around AV stand in the corner  ....we're going to watch TV in school!    Didn't matter what, we were excited.

Mid afternoon Miss Hill rolls the TV to the front of the room, pulls up the rabbit ears and, as the set warms up, tells us briefly of the space program.  And we watch Alan Shepard's sub-orbital flight, from preflight coverage to splashdown and recovery.  For most of the class it was an interesting diversion, but I was fascinated.  From then til I graduated high school nine years later I kept stacks of magazines and scrapbooks of everything I found about NASA;  built detailed models of all the launch vehicles and capsules;  could quote from memory all the missions from Mercury through Apollo, names of the astronauts, the vehicles, the dates, flight data, mission goals.  A major disappointment was finding I could never be an astronaut (because I wear glasses), so I became an engineer.

Public support decreased long before the Columbia incident.  Space flight had become mundane; initially there was the "us against them" challenge of getting to the moon before the Soviets, but once that was done most people lost interest.  The last three moon landings were canceled for budget reasons, subsequent flights were so highly technical and scientific that the average person wasn't interested.  And the original allure of the space program, and the vision of the future we had developed, never materialized.  The pushbutton world of the Jetsons never arrived;  the space station, rather than the majestic rotating wheel of science fiction (epitomized in the movie 2001), turned out to be an uninspiring tinkertoy contraption in low orbit.  The expected moon colony wasn't forthcoming, an expedition to Mars would not occur in our lifetime.  For the foreseeable future spaceflight was something reserved for a few dozen highly trained specialists, not for the common man.  There was no exploration involved, which would certainly have stirred interest;  and unlike the past, where any able-bodied man could go to a port city and sign on for an ocean voyage to see new parts of the world, we would never experience more than TV coverage of space walks to repair the Hubble.  For most people the entire space program after the moon landing (and even before for some) was a waste of tax money that could be better spent elsewhere (does no good to point out virtually every major technological advance in the past half century was a direct result of the space program).

I find it a sad commentary that today we have individuals so wealthy they can afford their own private space programs.
