  1. Would anyone know where I can find a Handley Page Dart Herald (not AI) for FSX or FS9? I've looked everywhere without luck. If you have a link, that would be great. Thanks!
  2. Reinstalling FSX, I noticed that the AFG Caravelles were showing wheel struts with no tyres. I reinstalled the Caravelles but the problem remained. The simple fix was resizing the default wheel bmp image to 1024x1024x32. The tyres were back. Hope this helps if you've had this problem.
  3. Well, deleting the shaders messed up FSX, it won't start so just restoring the backup at the moment. Mallcott, I had missed your post so I checked the fsx.cfg file and there's no listing for the DirectX 10 line. I'll be back....
  4. All the liveries were working up until yesterday. Good advice, will back up current install before changing anything else. Will check out the shader cache idea after back up. Thanks everyone. Will get back after the changes.
  5. No, definitely not the case. My FSX pc is offline, no Win 10 updates.
  6. Thank you, I'll have a look at that. Still trying to figure out why FSX on Windows 10 has closed the door on the Preview DirectX 10 setting when it worked just fine the day before. I may have to do yet another reinstall just to get back to what I had but it takes a good two days. Anyone with any ideas, please chip in...
  7. I had to reinstall FSX a couple of days ago but backed up a mirror image of everything first. HJG aircraft had all been working, every one of them. I did the reinstall and copied each aircraft folder, including other 3rd party aircraft, back into the new install. They all worked...except for the HJG aircraft which did not show. I even tried installing them fresh from the zip files. No luck. I have installed HJG zips many times over the years without issue in FS9 and FSX. This time was different. By trial and error, a 3rd party panel did the trick for me so I just thought I'd share that to help anyone out. The same was true for the HJG Caravelles despite them having an .exe installer. For all of them, the default panel folder was the issue. You mention that many HJG aircraft have two cfg files within the panel and sound folders but I only encountered that once. I think it was the DC-9; the Boeing 707s and DC-8s only had the one cfg. As I say, this had never been a problem for me before until yesterday. For me, FSX without HJG aircraft just isn't complete....
  8. I've just reinstalled FSX with the application pack and reinstalled all my aircraft and it looks good, everything is as it should be. It's taken me a few days to get to this point. However, I unticked "Preview DirectX 10" in the settings after reading a tweak post. Now, after re-ticking the Directx 10 box to get back to how I was, all my aircraft have turned white whereas they weren't before. Leaving DirectX 10 disabled shows the aircraft liveries as they should be but I'd like to get DirectX 10 back as it does look a lot better. Any ideas how I get back to how it all was with Directx 10 enabled? I'm on Windows 10 and a fast SSD PC. Thanks, Chris
  9. Just thought I'd share this. I was having a huge problem in getting HJG aircraft to show in FSX. Following the install instructions got me nowhere, the aircraft were not showing. It's all down to the panel in the liveries you add to the base aircraft. Just substitute a panel from another aircraft that does show up in FSX and the HJG planes will now appear. You will still need to rename the cfg files as instructed but it's the panel swap that will then sort it all out. Hope that helps some from tearing their hair out.
  10. Hi Richard, I'd be very interested to read your pdf about resizing. I do a fair few repaints using PS. Sorry, I can't figure out how to pm you here, though.
  11. Right, I reinstalled FSX to my D drive and then installed the Acceleration pack. That did the trick, everything running smoothly now. It had been so long since the original install, I had forgotten about the Acc pack and just winged the problematic install. Now I have the pleasure of reinstalling all the aircraft and all my liveries. Good job we're in lockdown. As usual, thank you for your help, guys.
  12. Thanks for your reply, Amberdog 1. Yes, I did a complete uninstall from Drive C. I use a utility called 'Total Uninstall' which incorporates the FSX uninstaller so takes out everything. Trying to install with any FSX traces brings up a failed FSX install so I know that utility does it's job. BTW, I didn't have the FSX aceelreration pack installed. Would that be a problem?
  13. Hi guys, Got myself a bit of a mystery here. I've had FSX (not SE) running all year on my Windows 10 'C' drive. It's been fine, good frame rates, all good. I uninstalled 'Aero Files-Texture Pack Booster' yesterday as it was causing squares to form around runway and aircraft lights but unfortunately, the uninstall took out FSX along with it. OK, no problem, I thought I'd re-install FSX on my 'D' drive to free up space on my 'C' drive. I did that, lights back to normal, no squares. Now the problems begin. First let me say I use Samsung SSD drives on my brand new PC, all drivers are current and a Ryzen 7 2700 8 core CPU along with 32gb of ram.Graphics card is ATI Radeon RX580. I'm now getting a fair bit of stuttering in flight but when I change aircraft or time of day which will reload textures, the texture re-loader will hang at zero without change. I left the pc for an hour and it was still at zero. This is intermittent. This has never happened once on the original install. My FSX settings are bare minimum. I don't want to upgrade to the new FS2020 as FSX for me is all about the aircraft liveries I have designed for mainly 1960's aircraft, I have about thirty of them so I need FSX. SE is no good as I need FS Recorder. I don't have any 3rd party scenery installed. The only add-on I have is FS Recorder which has never been a problem so far. I've Googled myself crazy over this issue. Oh, one other thing. If I run a saved flight from FS Recorder from my original install, the runway isn't there anymore but comes back if I fly 'live' without FS Recorder replay. Any help you can send my way would be massive. Thanks. Chris
  14. Thanks for all your advice, I've had a long look at the .cfg files and will have to learn to understand what it all means. That I will do so I can proceed the way I need to. The .air files...I need to get the utility that will open up the data. It sounds pretty daunting but I'll have a go; nothing ventured, as they say! You wouldn't want to be a passenger on my plane....
  15. Thank you CRJ, I will have a look at that this evening and then get back to you.
  16. I was wondering, as a novice with a fair understanding of flight, if it has a noticeable effect if you use, for example, a Boeing 737 panel with a Caravelle. I'm using freeware aircraft in FSX (not SE), mainly the 707, Caravelle, DC-8, Trident 1E, Comet 4C, VC10 and Il-62 and Tu-154. I ask because I have been trying to create a series of about forty landings with different aircraft for a short film I'm working on using FSX and I found it a lot easier to just copy the same panel (737-400) into each aircraft as time is somewhat of a constraint. The main thing I've noticed is that ILS approach seems very much hit or miss and I'm thinking that this might be the cause. I know how to use ILS so I start the approach about two minutes before intercepting the glide slope from slightly below but sometimes the aircraft will just nose dive or climb as if the signal wasn't there. Speed is not the issue as I've done my homework there, usually about 145 to 165 kts depending on the manuals. Weight is also well within limits with about 20% of remaining fuel, flaps on full and gear down. I've also noticed that certain switches such as the auto throttle or F/D are often non responsive in certain aircraft. I guess many will say, it's an aircraft, learn to use each correct panel and that's fair enough but I'm approaching this whole project from the film making angle and don't really have the time to get too in depth. For many of the aircraft, I've managed to land on the centreline of the runway which is all I'm trying to achieve. So, basically, how crucial is the panel to the aircraft if it comes from another source? Thank you for reading. Any advice is much appreciated as I'm running out of time for this project. Chris
  17. Thanks guys, still having problems... Chuck, I found this comment below from you dated 2006 but none of what you say in it is working at all for me. I press those keys...and nothing happens at all. "You know, the 'fixed SPOT plane view' sort of confused me. Maybe it should have said 'fixed CAMERA view'. I got a new 'perpective' you can try. When in 'fixed spot' view, hit the 'A' key (not 'S' at all). You will get 'Flyby' view. Set prefered zoom and move camera (with hat switch) to where you want it. It stays fixed where you can taxi from hold line, make turn down runway, exit runway and go back to spot you were before (hold line) without the CAMERA moving!! You have to almost go down halfway down runway (like on takeoff) before CAMERA will move. You then use 'F keys' only and switch switch back and forth between the 'Locked Spot' view and 'Flyby' view with use of those 2 key combo, or sequence, of: 'A', 'F11', 'A', F11, etc"
  18. Thank you Tom and Chuck. Please excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning. I don't know what ADE or AFCAD is but I'll try to find out, Tom. How do you lick the Spot view, Chuck? I can see that you can 'fix' that particular view but it has no effect for me at all.
  19. Yes, Chuck, that's part of it...trying to set the view on a recorded flight. I've spent a few hours today trying to work it all out with yours and Elmer's help but as you say, on a recorded flight replay. Makes sense now. I've made headway in setting an eyepoint away from the default tower view and that worked by setting the point using the Map/ Tower setting. I had never seen that option before. I can't save it as a preset...or can I? Seems like it can only be saved as part of a saved flight. I shall keep working the problem but again, thank you very much for your help.
  20. Thank you both for your replies, very kind of you. I've tried all the suggestions and already had FS Recorder but still not achieving what I'm trying for. I can get the 'flyby' in FSX where the camera is static as the plane approaches from the distance and then pans as the plane flies past and then off into the distance. The camera doesn't move from it's spot throughout, it just pans as the plane flies past. That's exactly what I'm after but FS9 doesn't have that by default. The youtube link shows it perfectly. I have tried to install Active Camera but it's not working. I'm flying FS9.0 I'm working on a short film on airlines of the 1960s and have all my saved flights, landings, take offs etc. I've just kind of hit a brick wall here. Again, thanks very much for taking the time to help me here. Any suggestions most welcome, I do appreciate it.
  21. Hi, I would love to know how this camera view is achieved in FS2004. I'm trying to create a video where the aircraft lands in the distance and then pans across the screen as the plane goes past with a fixed camera rather than the default camera that tracks along the ground with the moving plane. Just like the viewer was standing at a fixed point a few yards off the runway with a camera on a tripod. Hope you are all well! Chris
