  1. I fixed the problem using John Hinson's method. Easy and worked a treat. I know it makes no difference to FS9 where the title screen opens on the computer screen but I just think it looks better opening in the centre. At 74 I suppose I'm a bit set in my ways. David
  2. Fixed it! Many thanks to all who replied.
  3. FS9 Win 7 pro 64-bit When I startup FS9 the Title window has started appearing hard-up against the left side of the computer screen. I'd rather have it back in the center of the computer screen. Has anybody any ideas please? Many thanks, David
  4. I have Saitek pedals working with a Logitech Pro joystick for a few years now. I used the paid version of Peter Dawson's FSUIPC to set up the pedals. I have never been able to make the toe brakes work so I still use F11/F12 for braking and the joystick trigger for both brakes. Twisting the joystick still duplicates the pedals. Having said that I find the pedals are okay for maneuvering around the airfields and in flight. Although when I try to land the Spitfire at Biggin Hill and side-slip so I can see the runway it is normally a complete flop. I have pictures I took at Biggin Hill air days showing the Spitfires approaching the runway sideways and then straitening out at the last moment. I'll get it right one day. David
  5. You can download the free version - when FSN closed down the author made a free version that does not require registration - from Bob Hollands page: http://www.bobholland.com/fs/fsnav/default.htm I have just noticed that the FSN downloaded from above does not contain any Sids/Stars. If you have a previous copy of FSN installed on a backup of FS9 you can copy the Sids/Stars from there into your new install of FS9. Happy flying, David
  6. I have FSN 4.7 sid/star data as at May 2004. Is there sid/star data for FSN 4.7 of a later date available anywhere? I have looked on the Wayback Machine and found fsnavss8 on the closed-down page of FSN but they are dated 2001 to 2003. Many thanks, David
  7. Still flying FS9. Tried FSX, XPlane, RoF and others but still with FS9. I have lots of add-ons - Ultimate Terrain, Ground environment etc - but the best-ever add-on? Flight sim Navigator - nobody else has anything to match it. I cannot remember how much I paid for it all those years ago but it was a bargain. And I'm too old to learn another set of key-strokes. Happy flying folks. David
  8. Many thanks Skywatcher12 -I have never had an OOM although I have been using 4gb_patch.exe and lately Large Address Aware.
  9. What are OOM's please? David
  10. Just this minute downloaded Winnipeg and flew from Markham to rwy 31 in my trusty DC3. What great scenery Winnipeg is! It's wonderful to know that people are still building such top-class scenery for FS9. A big thank you to all concerned. David
  11. I think you are spot-on with the Posky plane - I made the same landing with my trusty Project Airbus 319 and no problems at all. Many thanks to all who responded and a Happy Christmas to everybody. David
  12. Opened the flight from my autosave file and it did it again - have a screen grab this time. Just touched down reverse thrust on. David
  13. For first time ever in over 25 years of sim flying my engines have burst into flames. Landing at Edinburgh - RWY 6, Project OpenSky Boeing 737-800 RyanAir - I made a nice touchdown, RCB Groundhandling dealing with flaps and speed brakes, start braking and apply reverse thrust. The windscreen fills with clouds of red spots and puffs of what looks like white cloud. I switch view to Spot Plane and see that the intakes of both engines are covered in white smoke and red sparks are all round them. Leave the runway and taxi to a gate where I cut off the engine fuel. Engines still on fire. Sorry but I didn't make a screen grab for a pic of the event. My realism setting is 50%, ignore crash and damage is selected and random instrument failure is off. So where did the very pretty engine fires come from? Has anybody any ideas? David
  14. Elmer, You are probably right about the video card. I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 with 2GB memory installed and it's very good although I wish I had bought the 4GB version - you can never have enough video memory. My computer is an HP Z600 WorkStation with 2 XEON processors, 28GB RAM running Win 7 Pro 64-bit. All of which is wasted on FS9 but you can download a Freeware program called Large Address Aware that will enable FS9 to access 4GB RAM instead of 2. Every little bit helps. HP Z600 Workstations with Win 7 are still available on E-Bay for about £200 but most now have Win 10 installed. I bought mine from E-Bay Germany as it was the only way to buy a refurbished Win 7 computer. It's a huge heavy beast but it's silent and has a big power supply and plenty of slots. The GTX card requires two slots side-by-side. If you want a Win 10 computer refurbished computers like my Z600 are a way of trying it out without spending a fortune. David
  15. Elmer, I have FS9 running on Win 7 Pro 64-bit and it runs very well. I do not have any compatibility settings in use just run FS9 as Administrator. I did run it in XP mode but I have found since that not using XP mode made it run much better. I have Ground Environment Pro, Ultimate Terrain Europe and Genesis mesh. I use a dedicated SSD for FS9. I have been flying the MS Flight Sim for years - I'm 73 and have Paris scenery on a floppy disc. My first MS sim flew on the old screens with just green and black. I have dabbled with X-Plane but until we get fast broadband in our little French village I think FS9 will see me out. Happy flying, David
  16. My FS9 often crashes when I am taxiing if: I have a small spotter plane window open looking at the side of the plane so that I can see where I am relative to the runway; When I have touched down and switched the main view to spotter so I can taxi clear of the runway; I have not closed the small spotter view. Computer Management/Windows Logs/Applications usually shows that weather.DLL is the problem. I keep a spare original version of weather.DLL tucked away - I delete the version in FS9/Modules and paste the original into Modules. Everything is then okay for months on end. The problem can occur with other DLLs - I check Windows Logs to see what has caused the crash and replace the faulty DLL. I have no idea why this occurs but I can live with it. It doesn't happen very often. David
  17. That's nice - one always wonders about posting tips in case the tip completely screws up someone's kit. Cheers, David
  18. Yes it will - and very well. As Col says - do not install in any of the C:\ program folders. I installed mine on a SSD completely separate from the C:\ drive. Once it is installed find fs9.exe and right-click to select Properties. Click the Compatibility tab. There is no need to select a Compatibility option just tick the Run as Administrator box and click OK. Enjoy! David

    HD vs SSD

Win 7 Pro 64-bit. I have had FS9 running on an SSD for some years - the sim starts up very quickly and I do not have any 4-second hangups. What I do have is a very short pause - nowhere near 4 seconds - as the scenery draws in Spotter Plane mode or with small instrument panel in Cockpit view. The pause does not occur with a slow-flying plane. T I have the FPS set at 65 fps to keep jittering to a minimum (Bob Marshall tip). The graphics card is a NVIDIA GForce GTX 1050 with 2 MB of memory. I am convinced that I should have bought a 1050 with more memory. But I can live with the pauses; it was the jitters that annoyed me. What you could try is turning the sound quality down to minimum. I'm deaf so the sound is of no interest to me and it did give me an increase in FPS. Happy flying, David
  20. Hi - I have Ultimate Terrain and the installer placed all the files in FS9/Scenery. The files appear in the scenery database at priority level 159 to 166 - below all other scenery but above mesh files. David
  21. Just the one but each side of the button. I don't think it does any harm to over-dose - WD40 does not conduct electricity and it does absorb water. I have used it loosen up the volume slider in headphones and all my 2CVs always needed a good spray to dry out the HT leads on a winter morning. Although I did fix that by putting the HT leads inside polythene tubing. With reference to buttons it will not work if there is some kind of water-proof membrane on top of the button. Depending on the construction of the stick it might take overnight before the WD40 seeps down into the works. Good luck and Happy Flying. David
  22. I don't know whether this will be of interest or in the correct forum but here goes. I have used FS2004 for years and I have a Logitech Extreme3D Pro stick. A few months ago the buttons - mainly the change view side button and the top-hat - started to stick or not respond. So I picked up my trusty can of WD40 and squirted WD40 down all the sides of the buttons into the works. Spent five minutes operating the buttons, gave it a wipe with a cloth and fired up the flight sim. All buttons working a treat now. Worth a try before buying a new stick or taking the existing stick apart. David
  23. I have found another result of running Scannow - it will delete the file RICHTX32.OCX, required by the UK2000 FS2004 scenery, installed in the windows\system32 folder. If you have any UK2000 scenery installed there is a copy of RICHTX32.OCX in the UK2000 folder: U:\FS9\uk2000 scenery. David
  24. Thank you all for the feedback but I think I'll stick with FS2004 and the occasional visit to XPlane. Happy flying, David
  25. Is it possible to run MSFS 2020 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit? I have a HP Z600 Workstation, two Xeon processors 3.2Ghz, with 24Gb RAM which copes with XPlane 11 quite well. My download speed is 7Mbps - I live in the French coutryside but they have promised me fibre (50Mbps) sometime in 2022. Many thanks, David
