Hello, I am just in my wy to go over from P3D to x-plane. Just tired of waiting for new updates as soon an update for P3D rolls out.

Want to give X-plane a chance.

My first question is if there are something like FlightSimCommander for X-plane???. I have been using FSC for at least 10 years now.

I have been looking at some videos for x-plane and one question is that it seems a little tricky to move the knobs. Do you have to throw the mouse out of the screen when you change i.e speed or heading????.

Regards

Bjorn

Hi Bjorn,

Glad you're trying out X-Plane. It's a great sim which really satisfies once you've set it up to your liking.

You know, I don't actually use FS Commander, but I do know there are X-Plane users who use it with XPUIPC.

To give you you an idea of how it's used have a look at this video:

Hope this helps Bjorn.

Cheers

Dominic

PS...Regarding knobs; it depends on the aircraft. Some aircraft use plugins which makes manipulating dials etc, a lot easier than the default method.

I'm not familiar with FlightSimCommander, but here are some (other) suggestions:

Plan-G free- or donationware VFR flight planner http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/

EFASS free- and payware IFR flight planner http://froom.de/efass/

I can't vouch for either of them. Many X-Plane users use the real but expensive stuff, like SkyDemon http://www.skydemon.aero/

As for your second question, I believe the knobs in some planes are sometimes poorly scaled, but that's a problem of the designer(s), not of X-Plane.

Dominic, I don't think that FS Commander can read the X-Plane 10 Nav Database, even with XPUIPC.

But I have been known to be wrong before :)

I use FSC with X-Plane. Unless you're looking for some of the little out of the way airports that FSX has that aren't in X-Plane, all the major airports are there and 99% of the data is the same. I use Plan-G for all my VFR flying because it shows terrain elevations, but for all my IFR commercial flying I use FSC. Some waypoints are not found in X-Plane so you can't always load them into the X-Plane GPS/FMC, but FSC does export in .fms format. Also, if you use the Heading from the little on-screen window from FSC, it will use FSX waypoints by taking over the Heading on the X-Plane autopilot and fly them as FSX waypoints. I usually fly with actual charts for SID/STARs but the built-in info in FSC works very well if I'm lazy.
