noahweber
My Twin Otter pics binge continues, this time with a return to Papua New Guinea for a flight from Kokoda (AYKO) to Port Moresby (AYPY). What started as a routine hop down the Kokoda River Valley quickly became a nightmare... 1: Preflight at Kokoda 2: Passengers hanging out in background 3: Parked in the tall grass 4. Lined up for takeoff 5. Climbing out of Kokoda 6. Suddenly BOTH engines flameout! 7. Lights, bells, and smoke fill the cockit 8. The pilot looks somewhat concerned (Note the propeller no longer spinning) 9. Look, an airstrip! 10. Left in for a sharp final to emergency landing 11. It looks like we might actually make it! 12. Too steep! Uh, oh... 13. You don't need another picture to know this didn't end well... Let's just say that nobody was hurt, but the plane is likely totaled. Although I'm disappointed I couldn't save the bird, the experience was an unexpected challenge and a reminder how sophisticated FSX has become. No longer do we just takeoff and land; we now must be prepared for failures and other types of emergencies (ie. windshield frosting on my last Antarctica flight). I have so much more to learn! Comments welcome. -Noah http://s6.postimg.org/a9i0d43tt/Capture.jpg
