Downloaded this and installed it per the instructions, but can't find it in the list (FS9 install).

Any ideas?

If you are referring to the Neptune, its under:

ui_manufacturer=Welker's Plane & Ship Wharf

ui_type=Pirats galleon

ui_variation=Neptune

If you are referring to the Bounty, its under:

ui_manufacturer=HMS

ui_type="Bounty"

Always look in the aircraft.cfg to see how the aircraft is named when you cannot find it.

Its also good to check that the folder contents are as you expected, not 2 levels deep and not seen by the sim.

Hi KCD,

Unfair to compare the two. The Bounty was done by a full SOH team, Milton Shupe, Nigel Richards, Rob Barendregt, Sasha Rieger, and Rob Ibey. Helmsman by Craig "Full" Richardson, with a wind driven guage by Rob Barendregt. The Pirate Ship was done by basically a one-man show.

So, in my opinion, also for what it's worth, 2 great add-ons for us, different, but really complimenting each other.

By the way, a compliment to the developers, if warrented, is always appreciated.

Perhaps my initial response was somewhat harsh. Graphically, Mr. Welker has provided a fine example of a 17th/18th century sailing ship. The cannons are fun to fire, but it does not, however sail very well, again in my opinion. As far as unfair to compare the two? They are both square gigged sailing ships of periods in history of close proximity; I think comparison is natural, normal, even warranted.

Sure, however, compare who developed them, & whats 'under the hood'. One has been developed to fly with the wind, the other, not, hence the difference in the 'air' model. Could be nice to do a multiplayer event!

The main folder (in zip) is 'Pirateship-Neptune' and the folder name under 'aircraft' is 'SH_Galeone Neptune' (so it's folder-inside-folder structure). The aircraft cfg has it as 'ui_manufacturer=Welker's Plane & Ship Wharf'. (What can you do?).

Erwin did a fabulous job on the details for the Pirate Galleon model. It WOULD sail with the wind except for the FDEs. He basically used the B-208 turbo prop FDEs. It is not heavy enough, so it is unstable on all axis. The dynamics (weight, MOI's, sta load, cnt pts, airplane geometry and engines) needed work. I am almost done with the FDEs for it. Sails at 15 to 20 kts. Does not crash (ie: bounce) anymore. Turns good with hardly any loss of speed. Stay tuned as I ck with Erwin about 'update' of FDEs.

I changed the following cfg entries to categorise & to keep my sailing ships together.

Simplifies things as well, for me.

ui_manufacturer=Sailing Ships

ui_type="Tall Ships"

ui_variation="HMS Bounty RN Full Sails"

&

ui_manufacturer=Sailing Ships

ui_type="Tall Ships"

ui_variation=HMS Neptune Pirate Ship

Alo looking forward to the modified FDE.

Many thanks,

Robin

Chuck,

Thanks for your effort, hope the developer provides the necessary permissions as this would be a fun addition were it to sail correctly. And, yes, head to head on line duels might be fun, but Bounty is without guns. Beagle has guns, but can only fire one in a salute. So, guess who would win the head to head.

Hello,

@napamule2

Do you finally suceed ? and do you have the author permit ?

Will be nice to have a "stable" Galleon http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/captain.gif

Well, I tried. It seems he is tired of listening to me talk about MY FDEs (and not talk about the views, cannons, lights, sails, smoke, etc). He don't want to hear about how it bounces and then crashes. Apparently that's not his problem, or so it seems. My ships (all) sail smooth as glass at 20 kts. And with 'Unlimited Fuel' I could sail around the world. I worked on the FDEs for 3 days, 12 hrs or more, and for nothing. Sorry guys.

I'd like to have some old sailing boats for AI purpose. Can you advise me ?

This package includes several tall ships (available here):

Name: tallpack.zip

Size: 22,210,043 Date: 12-21-2007 Downloads: 1,270

FS2004 Scenery--AI Tall Ships Sailing On Long Island Sound NY. A gathering of ten vintage AI sailing ships near Fisher's Island, New York. This scenery features incredibly detailed AI sailing ships modeled by Ron Jeffers, Pierre de Rotalier and Mike Hill. The project includes a replica of the Pequod - Captain Ahab's whaling ship in the epic novel "Moby Dick". Eight of the ten ships make twice daily trips around Fisher's Island. There is also an animated naval rowboat which makes short demonstration runs daily. With one exception, all required files are included. This scenery has been tested with Ultimate Terrain and the FS2004 default environment. This package works very well with John B.Loney's Elizabeth Airport (0B8_V1.ZIP). Compiled for your flying (and sailing) enjoyment by David "Opa" Marshall.

Hey Chuck,

I know it's little consolation for all your effort and work to improve the sailing characteristics of the pirate ship, but I appreciate your work and effort , even though you cannot get the author's permission. Problem is, the pirate ship is such a turkey on my machine that I cannot keep it. The space consumed vs the pleasure derived factor is heavily in favor of removal; I'll stick with Bounty!

Thanks anyway!

100% agree with you, KCD.

I have been waiting for an update from the author. I'll remove the ship from the aircraft folder, store it for a while on a FS dedicated HD, untill the next "cleaning day".

I didn't have internet connection for last 2 days. Just got it back. I will upload an FDE for the pirate ship tonight (today is payday so lots of chores all day). Then if Erwin don't want me to post FDEs he just has to email Nels to have it removed. How's that? It's a shame you can't enjoy the ship. It might be less complicated than the Bounty but it's very nice model. And if you follow instructions (in readme) you can sail it even in 0 kt winds as it has an engine. I'll be baaaaack.

I am uploading FDE for the Pirate Ship Neptune now. Will be available by Friday I do believe (too late now for listing it today). The FDEs are for both FS9 and FSX. DO read the readme for Instructions for best 'fly'.

Hi KCD,

it is not true that I, as the author of the pirat ship "Neptune" gave no permission to Chuck "Napamule" to upload and provide his FDEs for my ship! You can find his FDEs at Flightsim.coms download side. The opposite is true: He refused me his permission to use his FDEs together with my FSDS models for ever, even giving him credits.

By the way: My "Neptune" sails perfectly with my FDEs on my FS2004 and on my FSX, maybe there are problems with Acceleration, but I can't check that because I do not use Accel.
