dihedral2
Hi All! I've just been experimenting with the free software opentrack which with aitracker uses your garden variety webcam to provide head tracking in all sorts of games. Now I've got it working in IL2 1946 and Rise of Flight but still not made it work in FS9. Does anyone here use this free alternative to Trackir in FS9? Do I need some dedicated .dll or a workaround to make it work? Thanks for reading!
dihedral2
AAAH....sorted it out! Need to point the app at fsuipc and it works fine! Silly me!
lastivka
It works, but it is limited (compared to using it in FSX). You can view from side to side, but it doesn't allow you to raise your head up or down eg. if you want to look over your panel more when landing. Haven't tried it in FSX, but it seems to do everything Trackir did in FS9. Zoom in/out, Head up/down, lean left/right etc Attached is my profile for FS9 ezyzip.zip
lastivka
Thanks, dihedral2. Can you explain your setup? Are you using a smartphone as the camera? Using the PS3-eye camera, doesn't allow Opentrack to use the z-axis (the vertical up/down movement).

It's the same webcam I use for Zoom and other video calls. I'm running Win10 Pro.
lastivka
I suspect we're not talking about the same thing. As far as I can ascertain Opentrack in FS9 (even with FSUIPC), cannot give you 6DOF (6-Degree of Freedoms): yaw, pitch, roll, and the axes: x, y & z. It may be that you are seeing yaw for example, which is a rotation of your view left and right, rather than what I'm talking about - the actual movement of your head left and right. This would mean, for example, that you could move your head (and body) to the left to the point that you were looking out and past your left window - actually having your head outside and looking at the side of the aircraft. Or raising your head to see over the panel of the aircraft - similar to having your seat raised - as distinct from just rotating your head upwards, say to view your overhead panels. The issue has been discussed previously, and the conclusion seems to be that 6DOF is not possible with Opentrack in FS9. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/625867-opentrack/ https://forum.simflight.com/topic/51353-setting-eyepoint-for-6dof-head-tracking/ https://forum.simflight.com/topic/97062-head-tracking-not-working-in-full-6-degrees-of-freedom/ However, anything is possible, so if somehow you've got Opentrack to work with 6DOF in FS9 - there would be many who would love to know how you were able to do this. Paul Aha? Thanks Paul for the clarification. You're quite right! I just sat in the rear seat of my Tiger Moth and, as you say, I can't stick my head out of the cockpit left or right using just my head movement. However used in conjunction with a keypress and mouse scroll wheel it is possible. Now that is probably using some addon app I set up in FS9 ages ago and has nothing to do directly with Opentrack. I've been away from FS9 for quite a few years but I seem to remember I used to stick my head out the window using those key commands back in the day when I still used Trackir. Was that possible back then(sticking my head out of the cockpit) with Trackir alone in FS9?
lastivka
Although I don't have TrackIR - apparently it does have 6DOF - as stated on its page at: https://www.trackir.com/games/ Back in the FreeTrack days, a kludge to have 6DOF in FS9 was to copy the "TIRViews.dll" file from the TrackIR installation and place it into the FreeTrack installation directory. http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=2679 Unfortunately, FreeTrack does not work for me on Windows 10 - it installs but crashes as soon as you try to use it. So there only seems to be one option to have the full range of movement in FS9 and that is to buy TrackIR.
