Founder Nels_Anderson Posted May 3, 2023 Founder Share Posted May 3, 2023 Following up on a discussion in the FS2004 forum, I thought I'd bring up a new topic here: What files for MSFS 2020 would you consider "Must Have"? With some of the previous sims, there were certain files that most active flightsimmers ended up needing, things like FSUIPC to connect various utilities to the sim and things like scenery libraries, without which many scenery add-ons would not work. Are there similar things for MSFS 2020? Tell us what you think.
PhrogPhlyer
Just a thought as we progress down the "what happened to/what file would you consider" path; perhaps this is a valid process for all versions. And if it were to be reimplemented in one form or another, placing a "Most Requested Files" or "Useful Files" select on the home pages could be a good location. Always Aviate, then Navigate, then Communicate. And never be low on Fuel, Altitude, Airspeed, or Ideas. KiloWatt
The most important file, bar none, is flightsimulator.exe. Without that, I find the sim unplayble. On a slightly more serious note, if I could choose only one, I'd go with the flybywire installer, mostly for FSLTL. tiger1962
These global scenery and AI mods, which add features on a global scale, are must-haves for me: https://www.fslivetrafficliveries.com/ for live traffic linked to https://www.flightradar24.com/ https://www.flightsim.com/files/file/209967-msfs-2020-global-ai-ship-traffic-gaist-ultra-v3 for ship traffic of all kinds, everywhere. https://flightsim.to/file/38499/mamudesign-marinas for autogen marinas around the world to go with GAIST. https://flightsim.to/file/2605/we-love-vfr-region-1, https://flightsim.to/file/16674/we-love-vfr-region-2, https://flightsim.to/file/52211/we-love-vfr-region-3 for global Air Navigation Obstacles. https://flightsim.to/file/26186/powerlines-and-solar-farms for global power lines and solar farms. 1 Tim Wright "The older I get, the better I was..." cianpars
There are quite a few object libraries for various sceneries which will be 'must have' files for many depending on what airports, ect. they have downloaded. I would second puffinflight's welovevfr parts 1, 3 & 3 along with mamu's powerlines and marinas mods Of course, FSLTL will be a must for anyone who likes their airports populated with real airlines rather than the rather awful default liveries. valero
since FSX I cannot live without FSTramp http://fstramp.com/ and Little NavMap https://albar965.github.io/littlenavmap.html I definitely think they do make a difference in flying MSFS:
