Frank Piasecki was an American engineer and helicopter aviation pioneer. Piasecki pioneered tandem rotor helicopter designs and created the compound helicopter concept of vectored thrust using a ducted propeller. He passed away on February 11th, 2008.

 

The Piasecki H-21 directly lead to the H-46 Seaknight and the H-47 Chinook.

I had the honor of actually meeting Frank Piasecki in the '80s at Lakehurst, when they were developing the ill-fated Helistat.
