designrama
Hi all, I'm new to flight sim. After playing around with FSX for about two weeks, I've decided to split my current workstation into a dual boot system; one for work and one for dedicated flight sim system. My system: Xeon W3680 OC @4.1 GHz 12GB RAM Quadro 4000 (primary PCIe). BTW, Quadro 4000 has to be physically removed from MOBO when I do the FSX boot. GTX 660 Ti (secondary PCIe) 3 x 1080p 27" monitors For the flight sim system, which I'll most likely ditch FSX and go with P3D. I'll be adding a 500GB SSD and upgrade GPU to either a GTX 980 4GB or GTX 780 6GB version. Even though GTX 780 is slower than 980, but its extra 2GB VRAM and much higher VRAM bandwidth should be a better choice for pushing 5680x1080 resolution in DX11 than GTX 980, right? fxsttcb
Check the extreme resolution results of a GTX 780Ti vs GTX 980 here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1072?vs=1351 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels, 5760x1080 = 6,220,800 pixels 2,073,600 less From that, I'd bet the GTX 980 will give the best performance...Don HAF 932 Adv, PC P&C 950w, ASUS R4E,i7-3820 5.0GHz(MCR320-XP 6 fans wet), GTX 970 FTW 16GB DDR3-2400, 128GB SAMSUNG 830(Win 7 Ult x64), 512GB SAMSUNG 840 Pro(FSX P3D FS9) WD 1TB Black(FS98, CFS2&3, ROF, etc.), WD 2TB Black-(Storage/Backup) Active Sky Next, Rex4 TD/Soft Clouds
