Checkerboard northern textures in Canada and Alaska

I wondered before what was the cause of my checkerboard northern textures, and there were suggestions about what had gone wrong or what was missing. There is now a screenshot illustrating this checkerboard in my post a few days ago of smaller airfields in the Bethel area. The puzzle now is that when I modify the texture in the area around one of the new airstrips, using "low sparse grassland" the checkerboard pattern disappears and the land is all one texture, and the screenshots show that too. This seems to suggest that "the problem" was that there were two textures forming the checkerboard pattern. I had downloaded and installed modified textures some years ago, and I recently installed an update but then reverted to the original, but I do not definitely remember that the problem came with that update and reversal.
