How to Land a Boeing 747-400 on an Aircraft Carrier in FSX

Landing the default Boeing 747-400 on an aircraft carrier in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This was done with a plane that had 5% fuel and zero payload (apart from the weight of the two pilots). In this weight configuration, stall speed is about 105 knots with full flaps.

Landing Preparations:

  • Set Autobrakes to Max and arm the spoilers so that they will activate quickly and automatically upon touchdown.
  • Aim to land as far left as possible on the carrier to avoid hitting the tower with the right wing.
  • Just before touchdown, reduce thrust to idle and press+hold the F2 key to ensure that reverse thrust will activate immediately upon touchdown.

That's all there is to it. Next time you're in the middle of the ocean in a 747 and need to make an emergency landing on an aircraft carrier, dump excess fuel/payload/people and you should be set for a carrier landing :D
