Rupert
Yes, It seems everywhere I fly, I encounter more stacks of rocks. Some expected and others, not so much. :p And today I took shots of some again. (As always, due to data space limitations, these shots may appear pretty small. But if you click on one you can scroll through all of them appearing larger.) They have a lake in Scotland called Loch Ness. As in, the Loch Ness monster. Though I've been there RW and "flying" many times, I've never seen "Nessie." However they have a really old castle keep there called Urquhart Castle. Once when I was there we were we were escorted out of the immediate area by some military guys. Suddenly a chopper appeared and landed just in front of the castle. Then three men in full combat gear, including weapons and camo, ran out of the woods and jumped into the chopper, which took off almost instantly! I'm assuming it was some sort of drill? I've never seen that much activity in FSX. Here's Urquart as seen in FSX. Moving a little South in the UK you can enter an area called Wales. Wales was the site of many battles centuries ago and has a ton of castles still standing today. My favorite among those I've visited there is Caernarfon Castle. So I took some shots of it. The first one is the unexpected shot. It's Caernarfon Castle flying. If you want castles? We've got castles in the sky! But more down to earth, Caernarfon must have been truly impressive to any hostile force trying to take it!! The body of water that Caernarforn Castle was built to protect is called the Menai Strait. Which now has a couple of bridges, also made of stone across itself. Finally, like many places along the shoreline there are rocks that naturally pile up without human help. In Wales they are often called "stacks." In this case I took a shot of the South Stack Lighthouse. Enjoy these rocks. I'll be back again soon with more. ;) Michael Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
liner simpilot
Good looking pics that you did Michael. Every where you go is this stock in FSX or you have downloaded? Either way you have created some amazing places. Kenny
flightsimg
Hi Rupert! Much fine pictures. I had some difficulty to jump from Scotland to Wales! No matter anyway :) On the other hand, I also have been once at Urquhart Castle. A much fine place. From the tower which remains one has a splendid view on both side of the Loch Ness. One never can be sure whether one saw the guy or not! Cheers! azzaro
Thanks for rekindling the memories David. Been to Scotland twice (my wife's maiden name is Farquharson) and would gladly go again. Rupert
Good looking pics that you did Michael. Every where you go is this stock in FSX or you have downloaded? Either way you have created some amazing places. Kenny Thanks Kenny, No, most of what I post isn't default. I have ORBX Global. Plus, since Molly and I still have relatives there, ORBX England, Wales, Scotland etc. as well as Soctflight for ORBX. And other ORBX specific software for various other parts of the world. As you may have noticed by looking at my aircraft. I don't spend money on aircraft. The default ones are more "exotic" than almost anything I ever flew RW anyway. For example GPS wasn't even someone's dream yet!! But I do spend money on scenery. And the more you load up your computer with add on scenery, the less space and time you have to process a lot of fancy aircraft systems. You pay your money, you make your choices. Rupert
Jan, Actually I use both ORBX Scotland and Scotflight for ORBX. As I recall Urguhart Castle already looked that way using ORBX alone, but I can't swear to it. BTW: I have RW pictures I've taken of the castle which didn't come out as well as those shots!:o:o What Scotflight mainly does is fill in things such as the Falkirk Wheel which ORBX doesn't cover well. In fact, being a boater anyway, I plan to take a canal narrowboat through the Falkirk Wheel this Fall. This shot is a copy/paste from Wikipedia. I always try to remember to credit them when I use something from there! And if you're interested in what the Falkirk Wheel is, they explain it pretty well! Michael PS Sorry the shot is so small! It's so complex that that's as big as I'm allowed to post here. I think I'll try to find time to "fly" there again soon! Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow. PhantomTweak
Caernarfon Castle If my memory is correct, and no promises there, the former owner of Caernarfon Castle, one Lord Caernarfon, is the one who discovered a very famous tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. The Tomb belonged to a King Tutankhamun, the boy king who lived fast, died young, and certainly left a good looking corpse. Lord Caernarfon died shortly after the discovery, of an infected shaving cut. His canary was eaten by a cobra, too. The curse of Tut's Tomb? Who's to say? Certainly Tut isn't talking! Great pictures! I, personally, normally do my very best to avoid large piles of rocks when*I* fly! Thanks for some fun posts, Michael:D Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Sgt, USMC, 10 years proud service, Inactive reserve now :D
Rupert
Pat, You're correct! Over the years, probably because of the weather in England, Wales, and Scotland, the natives have traveled all over the world to find the sun! And if you'll notice from my shots, unless already on the ground, I give rocks a fairly wide berth myself!! Especially the flying ones!!!:eek: Michael Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
