70nlights
I have had a Saitek yoke and pedals for several months. I am now going to semi-permanently mount the pedals. I want to locate them as they are in a real plane at least as a starting point. I may make adjustments for my less than average height. The base of the yoke is mounted on a desk that is 29.5 inches off the floor, and I don't want to change that because it would be difficult. But I can move the pedals forward or toward the rear. How far forward from the yoke (when it is in the nuteral position) should the pedals be? I am currently "flying" a Cessna 310. Thanks, Bill
napamule2
Bill, Just last night I was working on my wheel and pedals placement/position. I cut my desk legs to make the desktop height 26 inch as 29 inch height was too hard to work with. 29 inch will gave my knees a little more room but placed the wheel too high for confort. You knees will be bent irregardless. I put a 1 inch thick rubber pad (duck tape it on) under the wheel base to make tighthening of wheel more secure. The pad compensates for the thin (1 1/4 in) desktop. I placed the pedals 20 in from the bottom edge (drop a line) of wheel. Works ok. I also put a pad (1 in x 4 in - duck taped) on left pedal (brake) for my heel to rest on. Brakes because I intend to use wheel to drive vechicles. I don't intend to use it to fly planes. So I agree that it is tricky and there are no guides out there as we all are built different (ha). Good luck. Oh I would NOT mount the wheel permanent unless you are going to fly a lot. And remember: the keyboard should be available / accessible (and the mouse) at all times. I have wireless keyboard and mouse so it's ok to put to the side - still works. So it's around 20 inch from the front edge of the wheel (bottm edge) to the pedals. I am 5' 9', if that helps. Cheers.
