paulrunge
I have tried several times, but right at the end (using Firefox 57.0.2) it throws an error "failed". Does it matter which browser you use? At 12.2 Gig its a whopper of a download. But ORBX-FTX scenery loads are similar and have always worked great inside FSX. Suggestions? Thanks. jorgen.s.andersen
When I researched downloading P3D, I came across a thread where Lockheed-Martin recommended a download manager, and had links to about 10 different ones. I did my own download using Chrome and got it down OK on the first try. Jorgen
paulrunge
Thanks. I did all that you all suggested and finally got a successful download and install. Now to figure out how to get better than 6-10 frame rates out of P3Dv4... Thought this would be a no-brainer change over from FSX, but maybe my gear is to old and slow (like me!!)? vgbaron
you are right on the edge, possibly a tad below with that video card. If you can get the cpu clocked up above 4ghz, that would help. Coming from FSX - do NOT apply any of the tweaks you used in FSX to P3D. Lock your frame rate down about 20 - then start adjusting your sliders lower untikl you can get smooth operation. Remember, typically the "normal" setting in P3D is equivalent to the max setting in FSX. paulrunge
Thanks Vic. Good overview and tips! I think I will upgrade to a more capable system. From what I can find, afford, and my preference for HP instantly available, I am thinking a rig with i7-7700 3.6-4.2GHz (I understand it can't be overclocked), GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5 dedicated), and a 256GB SSD. From the bench tests I found on the 1070, that should almost 3X my existing rig's performance. Also, get a 4K monitor so as to use that extra resolution capability...? That should allow maxed out FSX, and a decent tune-in to begin learning P3D? Thanks! vgbaron
That would be a good system Paul. The 1070 is a very good card. Remember, with P3D 60fps means nothing but 60fps - do NOT chase the FPS monster. Tune your system for the LOWEST FPS where you can maintain the SMOOTHEST performance. For me, it's 20fps with most settings maxed. This allows the GPU to give you the best visuals. jagabom
Good you got it paulrunge. I had to download the individual files to get it all. Just stopped 3 times. That was enough. Jim CYWG
