Erick_Cantu
Seems I'm on the dive-bomber bandwagon, too. http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/Erick_Cantu/B732%20progress%2018_zpsj4e8foql.jpg With our dive-bomber dirtied up, we set up our approach, making a tight turn to avoid enemy fire. http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/Erick_Cantu/B732%20progress%2019_zpscgcspj3e.jpg I'm targeting the 154 on the left - it's not even supposed to be here! http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/Erick_Cantu/B732%20progress%2020_zpsy1khuqii.jpg Our target suitably confused, we clean up the airframe, begin a climbing turn, and power up our mighty P&W turbo-wasp engines... http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/Erick_Cantu/B732%20progress%2021_zpsjbglbaxm.jpg Our mission accomplished, we begin our return to base. By the way - calling a jet a Turbo-Wasp is not actually anachronistic. PW did indeed market their early jet engines under that name - "Turbo-Wasp JT3D-3," for example. PhantomTweak
Heh! Great post. Thank you very much! You don't know how many times I watched my father climb into the left seat of one of those birds. The UAL 737, not the Helldiver :D :D After United finally did away with the Stretch-8's, that's the bird he loved the best. He even had a special call when coming into SFO, his home base. "Hey, hey, hey! It's FAAAAAAT Albert!" You'll have to imagine a lousy Bill Cosby impression out of the mouth of a man that looked, and sounded, almost identical to Don Rickles. He called the 737's "Mini-Pigs". They DO look rather short and plump-ish, after all! And, with his name being Alfred, he figured it was close enough. Got so the tower would just give him landing instructions when he called in that way :D :D That's why I enjoyed your pictures so much. I could just picture my father giving the Fat Albert call as he dove in... He HAD been a Naval Flight Instructor, BTW, back when they used SNJ's, so I could just imagine him diving in like that. Hilarious! Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Erick_Cantu
I'd wager there was a good chance that he flew the real 9001U, then - it's a very special airplane, the -200 prototype. Sadly cut up into beer cans... I suppose everything has its time. http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/Erick_Cantu/B732%20progress%2022_zpseuy9otog.jpg For the record, I landed in one piece.
