HardCub
:D Good Saturday morning my friends!!! I have recently discovered a truly awesome piece of freeware for FS9, FSX, Prepare3D and XPlane. It is FAST... it is SIMPLE... and did I mention it is FREE??? Yes - it is freeware!!! It is called FSRealWX. It is a simple, yet powerful software weather engine that uses current METAR data which is downloaded lighting-fast from your choice of (3) international sources via the internet, and then recreates the same real-world weather into exactly the same thing onscreen in your simulated FS world. It does not come with any textures, or extra Bells & Whistles... it simply does weather. Only weather. And it does it very well. You can get it at FSRealWX. I encourage you to register (it's FREE) and you will be able to access the full version. Once registered, go to the Downloads section. Look for the Version 2 Setup file. If you do not register, you can only download the 'Lite version' of FSRealWX. Below are some shots showing various flights in different locations using real-time weather data for each flight. All flights have REX textures installed for Clouds and Skies and Sun halos. PhantomTweak
Yes, great program, BUT: It says under the Options that it requires a registration and key otherwise it's just a 20 day trial version. How/where do I get this key? I've tried contacting the website but nothing, either by email or in the forum. HELP! Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! HardCub
:) Hello everyone! Thank you, thank you so much for all of the nice compliments on the weather pictures. Okay... so let's try to clear up these questions. I'll start by reminding you this weather engine is for FS9, FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane. You really NEED to register on the website (it's free) and then you can download the full version. You will want the full version! Also, the software is FREE...and will always be FREE. Do not pay any attention to the message about needing to register your email and purchase a 'KEY' after the 20-day Trial period has expired. The company explained to me that this was something they had to do to release the program into the Beta stage. The message has NO importance! The software will continue to function perfectly after the 20 days - have no fear. :) They said their software will always be freeware. Register on website Look under Downloads tab on website. Fs users select FSrealWX. X-plane users select XPrealWX. FS users you will see (2) files - you want the fsrealwxv2_setup_2010221.zip file. Extract/unzip to folder of your choice. Once you have completed setup, you need to attach it to your FS program. Open the FSrealWX Pro program. Select 'FSrealWX' in the amber bar (top left). Select 'Options'. Select 'Interface' tab. Select the 'Paths' tab and point the software to your MAIN FS folder. (Note you can ONLY have the weather program attached to a single FS version a time. For example, if you are using FSX and want to go back to FS9, you must open the software as you did to find the FS path, and you just point it towards your FS9 or FSX MAIN folder.) Also, under the Options/Weather tab, I changed the Maximum visibility distance to 55km instead of the default 200km. Once this is done, this is the steps to make it work. (It requires an internet connection) Start your FS9, FSX or Prepar3D software - load a flight completely up. Start the FSrealWX software. It will automatically link to your flightsimulator and display the connection in the lower bar. You must select 'Download WX' to begin operation. It is very fast! And that is it - enjoy it to the Max!!! :D P.S. - I forgot to answer one last question. All of my cloud, sky, water and sun textures are from the awesome REX products for FS9 and FSX. I simply spend some time with the REX software creating a 'Theme' of various textures that I like, then I save it and install it into my FS9 or FSX. And I close it. And I never open it again until I decide to change something about the clouds. I do not select a different Cloud Theme each time I fly. You do not have to have REX - any of the cloud textures will work. I just think REX is the best in visual terms, but there are also others that are nice available as freeware in the download libraries of several popular flightsimulator-related websites. 2021 Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming laptop.
