Wheel contact points.

I have Björn Büchner's Taylorcraft Auster MkV. The wheels aren't sitting on the runway surface. The tyres look deflated. I've copied this fron the cfg file & would be grateful if someone can tell me what numbers I need to edit to lift the tyres onto the surface.

Thanks.

Since I was up early, I tweaked the cnt pts. Here is the result. Taxi 10 kts and make turns at 5 kts and you should be ok. Tweaked the tail wheel too.

point.0=1,-14.060,0.000, -1.350,1200,0, 0.238,40.0,0.300, 2.5, 0.990,0.0,0.0,0,0.0, 0.0

point.1=1, 2.270,-3.070, -4.310,3500, 1, 0.500, 0.0, 0.300, 4.5, 0.880,0.0,0.0,2,0.0, 0.0

point.2=1, 2.270, 3.070, -4.340,3500, 2, 0.500, 0.0, 0.300, 4.5, 0.880,0.0,0.0,3,0.0, 0.0

Well, I tweaked it more because the compression was wrong (due to model wheels) and the right gear is 'longer' than left (or, left is 'shorter?). I see you picked up on that. Good eye. At any rate, the wheels will not 'raise' off the runway on turns now with this compression values. Try it and see. Let me know if it 'shakes' on loading (due to tail wheel tweak) and will tweak more. Nice airplane. Here are 'New & Improved' cnt pts.

PS: You could 'profit' by adding diff braking. Add this line to (brakes) section:

differential_braking_scale= 1.000

Edit: change the tail wheel vert (-1.240) to -1.340. That should do it.

Chuck - thanks for new edit. I'll fiddle around later but I'll just say for now that it sits perfectly on loading, & takes off & lands smoothly as usual.

I use this machine a lot for low & slow flying & when putting buildings on a new airfield with Instant Scenery, & when I take the sim out for folks who wants to see the WW2 airfields I've made the Auster 5 is such a good machine to learn on. When they can land the 5 I might get a MK5 Spitfire out..........grab_018.jpg!

I put a serial numer of 141 squadron on it for my initials....I think TW511 is flying still. I know of 2 locally too.

Cheers for now.

Terry.

thank you for the info...
You're very welcome. Looking at your screen, perhaps the Auster looks a little too light on its main gear? I usually drop the contact point a little more, so as to increase the tyre patch very slightly.

It's a very light plane. Fuel is 25 gals. It lands at 35 kts. But the wheels lift on turns even at 10 kts? That is not right. That is why I changed the compression values. It tipped over too easy. After tweak it doesn't do that anymore, even on turns at 15 kts. That is more important than 'looks'. How it flys I don't know, but it seems to have a yaw 'problem' (due to vertical stab size/values?).

I found that you could not 'fine tune' the vertical position. It was either 'flat' tires or 'in the air' even with 0.025 changes. So it's the model that prevents EXACT vertical wheel position using cnt pt 'fractional' values. You would have to change the 'reference_datum_position' vertical value (by increments of '0.005') to get it 'perfect'. Your call.

Well your other PM says 'it stopped shaking'...so don't know what gives with your set up as my Auster don't shake in either FS9 or FSX. My usual is to load the C-172 in FSX or the C-182 in FS9 FIRST and then load the Auster. I sent you a PM.
