csmj
Hello All, I have found that some of the .bmp files in the \textures folder cannot be opened with Photoshop or MSPaint (my only two image editor apps). Both say these files have invalid formats. I wanted to experiment with making a small change in one and cannot open it in the editors. Obviously they work ok in FS9 and they can be viewed in a viewer app (XnView). Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend an editor that will work on these files? They were created with some app, so there must be something that will edit them. Added thought: Photoshop also said it had an invalid end of file character. I have a HEX editor that could change that if I know what to change... Thanks very much, Clayton My FS web site: http://www.cjcom.net/FS-a.htm with screen shots and short articles. Updated regularly. nadlzfw
The OP says his problem is fixed, but I thought I would share a lesson learned... When I came to Windows 7 (from XP) and tried to edit .bmp files as usual using MS Paint, I found that the colors became all scrambled. Turns out the Paint application that comes with W7 is different from the XP version and does this. I found a link to a download to install the XP version of Paint, and use that exclusively. Nadlzfw I used to use XP but can't remember how different Paint was. Can you share the link? Also, do you know if there's any way to make the default file type when saving an image jpg instead of png? Avechelice
Hello, to install the XP version of Paint You can't open directly a BMP file from a texture with the paint programme of Win XP I use Win XP !!! You can open it with DXTbmp .. and after transfer it to a paint programme for editing .. and after save it again via DXTbmp AFAIK Paint Windows XP version http://paint-xp.soft112.com OR http://www.winmacsofts.com/telecharger/paint-xp Download = blue button !!! BTW myself as image editing tool I use the old PSP (Paint Shop Pro) 7 :) Regards.http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/a/bye.gif If you gave a couple of monkeys a box of ballpoints, enough paper, and enough time, they'd eventually finish up writing the complete works of Shakespeare :)
