About This File

X-Plane 11.30+ Messerschmitt Me 262 A-1 Schwalbe 1.1. Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel (German: "Storm Bird") in fighter-bomber versions, was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work started before World War II began, but problems with engines, metallurgy and top-level interference kept the aircraft from operational status with the Luftwaffe until mid-1944. The Me 262 was faster and more heavily armed than any Allied fighter, including the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor. Me 262 pilots claimed a total of 542 Allied aircraft shot down, although higher claims are sometimes made. This X-Plane model features a fictional livery. Cockpit functions still require work, but the rest of the plane is nicely done. Important update: 5 new superb liveries by SHAMAN2017 (a big thank you). There is also a modified ACF file to include a steerable forward wheel. Finally, a pilot has been added to the cockpit. By Stephane Toledo.
