About This File

FSX Add-on Gauge--Descent Management System for FSX. It is intended for use with medium and heavy jets which do not have a sophisticated FMS installed, and has been successfully tested both with Garrett Smith's FMC and with no FMC. In order to operate, it requires a valid flight plan to have been loaded. The gauge calculates Top-of-Descent based on aircraft altitude and vertical and horizontal speed, as well as altitude and location of the destination airport. Descent is then initiated and vertical speed is controlled in order to achieve the desired descent profile. Automatic spoiler control is also available to prevent overspeed during descent. An icon is provided which permits the DMS sub-panel to be toggled on and off for convenience. The gauge has only been tested with FSX but may work with other versions of Flight Simulator. See the Readme and User Guide files for full installation and operation details. By Lee Hall.

@wmcgowan - The short answer is, unfortunately, no - that was never a design consideration and would require programming skills beyond my pay scale. You can kind of fudge it by requesting descending flight levels from ATC and it sort of works, but that's a bit messy and you may not consider it to be particularly realistic. Sorry!

@Adino - only a pleasure - glad you have found it useful.
