What Should You Take With You on a Flight?

When you’re on a plane, you want to be able to relax as comfortably as possible. Ideally, you can get comfortable enough to take a nap so your flight will feel shorter, and you’ll arrive at your destination feeling rested. Before you get going to catch your next flight, jot down a list of everything that you should remember to bring with you. Here are a few items you should include on your list of stuff to pack in your carry-on bag.

Extra Layers

Airplanes can get really chilly once they’re up in the air. Even when you’re heading to or from a warm locale, make it a point to wear long layers for your flight. On a day when you have to go on a plane ride, the best way to dress is in layers. When you’ve got layers on you can change what you’re wearing to match the ambient temperature wherever you are. Wear a layer or two to make your way through the airport and bring a couple more in your bag.

Blanket

If you want to sleep for your flight, you should definitely bring a blanket. You’ll feel a lot more snug and ready to conk out when you’re under a blanket. The best material for a travel blanket is fleece fabric material because it’s soft and warm but also lightweight.

Water

After you make it past security, pick up a bottle of water. Wait until right before you have to board so it will be cold during your flight. Not all airlines offer complimentary beverages, and you’d rather have your own bottle at the ready so you won’t feel anxious about getting your next chance to hydrate.

Books

A flight is a fantastic time to get immersed in a book. A good book will make a flight go by quickly. Order a couple of new books to read before your trip. Check out your favorite authors’ web pages to find titles that you haven’t read yet.

Headphones

Once you’ve been on a plane for a while, you’ll get used to the noise that the engine makes. At first, though, it can seem uncomfortably loud. You may like having headphones or buds to play something to drown out the noise. If you usually stream your music, remember to download at least a few tracks so you’ll have something to listen to once you’re in airplane mode.

Gum

Bring along some sugar-free gum so you can freshen up your breath. If you end up having to chat with the person next to you, you’ll be happy that you can make your mouth feel a little bit cleaner with some gum. Also, the change in altitude that you experience when you’re on a plane can make your ears feel stopped up. Chewing gum when you take off or land can help to relax your jaw and open up your throat so the pressure can balance out easier.

Tissues

Sudden sniffles or an unexpected sneeze can strike at any time. Tissues are certainly something you don’t want to be stuck without if you get sniffly. A small pocket pack will be easier to find and grab right away when you have to blow than loose tissues somewhere in your bag.

Lip Balm

If you feel your lips start to chap, you’ll be relieved to have lip balm with you. Even just slightly chapped lips can get uncomfortable in a hurry. Don’t choose a heavily scented or flavored balm because it could be intrusively odiferous to the passenger seated next to you.

When you’re getting ready for your next vacation or work trip, remember to part of your trip when you’ll be in-transit instead of only thinking about the things that you’ll want with you when you reach your destination. It feels lousy when you’re on a flight and you don’t have what you need to feel comfortable, but planning ahead can spare you from packing-related remorse and make your flight a whole lot more enjoyable.
