VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:

This has taken a lot of work. The files in this texture folder have been fully customized and have extensive work to them to get this model to shine like it doe's which in turn is close to the real Miss Virginia.

Do not take any files out of the **Texture.Miss Virginia** folder and do not add any files for the extrerior paint or you will not have the same result and the finished polish will look duller and rougher.

You can add interior files yes, but do not change any exterior files by adding or subtracting from/to the Miss Virginia texture folder.

DO NOT INSTALL ANY SPEC FILES EITHER!!! This repaint has been reworked so that you won't need the spec files adn the reason for this is because with the spec files installed you will not get the very high shine either.

The only way I was able to get this shine is to do away with the spec files all together and manipulate the other files to get this shine so again, DO NOT INSTALL SPEC FILES.

I hope you enjoy the paint as much as I did creating it. Please leave some comments as well!. :cool:

Cheers!

Alan W. (8055)

Oh, it's a wonderful texture to look at but not to fly with (241 MB!). Paratrooper texture has only 4 MB. You need a very strong machine for flying with this beauty.

I sure it's very pretty to look at and I agree a good job by deepdiver8055! I am using the Buffalo repaint from SOH and it does do a number on my frame rates. I'd better push my crank pedals faster on my computer!

LOL have you tried flying with it? because there is no more frame hits then the 4mb size and I don't have a *very strong machine*

the frames are fine. You can always try it out first before saying you need a strong machine. The textures are in 32 bit which make any paint look better but it doesn't hit your frame rate unless your using a very old system and if it's that old then all repaints and scenery are going to hit your frames.

Hopefully you guys can fix these issues your having. Everyone I know can run these paints without any probs and a lot of us have older machines. A lot of the frame issues come from other things in your sims too, configurations and a bunch of things most people are unaware of.

I keep a clean system, I run ActiveSkyNext, REX4 textures, 6mb ram, 2mb video card and a 3.5gHZ 8 core cpu in free flight and multiplayer and my system holds steady always at 30fps (On FULL Detail) which is all you need and is plenty fast. One thing that hits all machines is if you have AI air traffic turned up. That's a huge frame hitter.

Thank You for all the complements as well. Enjoy! :cool:

I just tried it! I chose the thumbnail and clicked "Details"..waited a minute or so them bam...CTD NTDLL.DLL error. I could maybe turn all of my sliders down to minimum but it works OK with the Buffalo repaint. This one is just Too Pretty! My specs are about 1/2 what you are using!

Try this:

Take the two ENV maps I included (They are like 90+mb) and open those in Photohop or any program that can open them that will allow you to resize the image. Try resizing those down so that the vertical height is either 1024 or 512. Do that for both files. They must remain at 256, 512, 1024 and so on.

The reason those are so large is because it's all part of compressing the files smaller when it's in the sim thus giving you an finer looking image on the env map which then looks better on the reflections. Just like a photo... if you try to increase the size of a photo then it gets distorted but if make that same photo a bit smaller or a lot smaller then the image gets compressed more and looks finer then the original size. Env maps work the same. But then I use a lot of other tricks to work with the env's to make the final results but for the most part, the env's are a starting point for you to try.

Remember... you want to ONLY adjust the smaller size of the ENV map size and not the longer width of the env. Make sure you have it set to *Maintain Aspect Ratio* and the larger size will automatically adjust to the smaller size. Remember only make adjustments in 256, 1024, 2048 and that's it. I think they are already set to 2048 so take it down to 512 and that should help your frames.

Let me know...

Thank you deepdiver8055, but I am a newcomer in paintprograms like Photoshop and what you say sounds much complicated for me.

Fact for me is Buffalo texture from SOH has only 32 MB (and not 400). I can fly with that texture and with others, sorry but not with a texture of 400 MB. FSX is frozen for minutes working on the next picture, no fun.

But let me say again: your work is gorgeous! Maybe you can sometimes reduce the texture for poor simmers like me.;)

No problem Flatterman. Here's a new lower res texture set you might try. This should work for you and others who are having difficulty with their frames for this plane. Just copy all the files inside the *Texture.Miss Virginia* folder inside this zip folder and copy all of them into the Miss Virginia folder you already have replacing the others.

For those who have not downloaded this paint then just install this texture folder into your aircraft folder and edit your text as you normally would with any other paint.

Let me know how it works out.

OH! and for those who wonder why my repaints are not uploaded at SOH, the reason is I can't upload there because certain individuals are still *Hung Up* from the past which is fine in my book. No sleep lost here I'll tell ya and what's really funny is the fact that those certain individuals (they know who they are) still DL my repaints from other sites regardless! LMAO.

This is what I get for standing in a friends corner supporting him after he was victimized by a few (*$##&%^@*) at soh. But hey it's the only forum that I can honestly say: I have a lifetime membership over there. That's so sweet on their part. Thank You SOH LMFAO

Hoping I followed your directions "Copy all of the files from this .zip file into (and overwriting) the files from the original download", this is what comes up for me when choosing Miss Virginia: I actually tried it both ways using the new download by itself!

Hi, in my case it looks normal (see attachment) 16,4 MB but not so beautyful as yours;)

OK then the only other thing that should fix this is to use the original two env maps I included but have them resized down to 512 pixels for the vertical size.

I'll make a quick update for those and load them up for DL here.... standby

OK this should do it: Just replace the originals with these. Also make sure to look at the model inside the sim not just in the main menu. Sometimes certain textures don't load all the way until your actually all the way in the sim ready to start or fly the plane

OK, got it! It turns out that I needed to copy and paste the texture.cfg from the Buffalo and also how I made the paratrooper repaint work.

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\texture

fallback.2=..\texture.EATS_315221

fallback.3=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

A bit sparkly!

:cool: but be sure you DO NOT have any *.*Spec files in there. If you do take them out and the plane will be a lot smoother. They are the two T_Spec.dds files. Just make sure they are not in the actual Miss Virginia folder. The texture file is included in the original DL with my paint. That's what you need.

It should only look like this:

fallback.1=..\texture

fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Texture

fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

and be sure to use the included texture text I included in the DL that you paste in your aircraft.cfg file below the other entries.

that should be this text:

[fltsim.xx]

title=Douglas C-47 V3 Miss Virginia

sim=Douglas_DC3_v1.4

model=

panel=

sound=

texture=Miss Virginia

kb_checklists=C47_check

kb_reference=C47_ref

ui_manufacturer="Douglas"

ui_type="C-47R Skytrain"

ui_variation="V3.12 Beta"

ui_typerole="Twin Engine Prop"

Using your texture.cfg, this is how it looks! Maybe because I don't have Acceleration? No T_Spec.dds files in the folder.

OH OK no acceleration! that's it then. Try putting the text files back like you had them but make sure to leave out those two Spec files and it should be OK.

Thanks for all your help on this! :D

no problem, want to make sure my paint works for ya. Let me know if it does or not. If not then looks like you'll have to change all the text files like you had them before. See the thing is, when you add the two Spec files it makes the bumps show up more rougher then they do without the spec files.

This tells me that somehow the modeller had attached those bumps to the spec files for some reason which I have never seen this before with any model. The spec files should only control the lighting effects and not have anything to do with the bumps what so ever. This is why I left out the Spec files so that you get the really smooth high shine because the specs make the shine look rougher by showing all the tiny squares around each rivet and they bleed into the panel lines so they get *blocky* looking degrading the actual polish... again, this model is totally different from any other model I've painted using spec files. I've spent 2 full days verifying this before releasing this paint and no matter what I did and no matter what tricks I pulled out the bag, when I added the specs and even parts of the spec files they degraded the high smooth shine you would normally have without the specs.

If you load up another polished model and zoom in really close to rivets then you'll see the squares I'm talking about around each rivet and panel line. They bleed into each other making the polish slightly rougher and duller. You'll also notice some *flickering* from a distance on polish models too because it's reflecting the amplified rivets and lines so the lighting is reflecting those more again making it rougher looking.

Hope yo get it looking polished like before.

Thank you for your workn now I can fly with Miss Virginia. Is it possible to gave the link in my forum http://www.vfr-flightsimmer.de?

Greetings from Austria
