jandjfrench
Hi, I've added the FS9 Vega to FSX and when tuned to an NDB I hear the audio and the tooltip indicates the correct bearing with the cursor over the ADF gauge, but the gauge needle never moves. I don't currently have FS9 installed and I can't recall if it worked properly there. Can anyone please verify? Thanks, Jim F.
ViperPilot2
Jim, Just loaded the Vega 5C and started the Sim. Tuned the ADF to the nearest station, and got the Needle to go all the way to the left side of the Gauge. I tuned away from the ADF, and the Gauge needle went all the way to the right side. Methinks it works in FS9. Hope this helps! jandjfrench
Hi Alan, Thanks for checking. Sounds like it's sorta working. Does the needle ever center? Mine always stays full right when I make a 360. At a fair distance away from the station that is. Jim F.
ViperPilot2
Jim, I flew straight towards the ADF, and the needle stayed on center. However, if I deviated even slightly off course, the needle would move accordingly. Using this ADF does teach you to keep a straight line towards the Beacon, that's for sure! jandjfrench
Thanks again. I've forgotten just about everything I ever knew about gauge design; and that wasn't much, but looking at the XML for the gauge I suspect that "ADF Radial" is something that FSX doesn't understand. Very good chance that my thinking is wrong but I'll study it for awhile before I start looking for a replacement. Jim
StringBean
Pretty easy fix, as they go. To work in FSX you need one quick XML edit. In the Lockheed_Vega.cab you will find adf.xml In that file you will find... (A:ADF Radial:1,degrees) 360 + Get your eraser out and make it look like... (A:ADF Radial:1,degrees) That should do it. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Farewell, my freind (sp) Never argue with idiots. jandjfrench
Hi String, Works fine now. Thanks. It seems FS9 was a bit more forgiving of syntax errors. Jim F.
StringBean
It seems FS9 was a bit more forgiving of syntax errors. Nope, 9 and X use different values for A:ADF Radial:1,degrees Different values require different math. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Farewell, my freind (sp) Never argue with idiots. gwdoc
Hi StringBean, I experienced the same problem with the Vega ADF in FSX and I noticed your solution but how can I edit the adf.xml file in the Lockheed_vega.cab ? Forgive my simple question but I am not so fix with XML-files. Thank for answer in advance. gwdoc
tgibson_new
Hi, 1. Create a folder with the same name as the .cab file (Lockheed_vega), right next to the .cab file. 2. Open the cab file by double clicking it. Windows should be able to handle that. 3. Select all the files. 4. Right click and choose Copy. 5. Go into your new Lockheed_vega folder and Paste all the files into it. 6. Rename the Lockheed_vega.cab file to Lockheed_vega.cab.orig Now FS will use the gauges in the folder rather than in the .cab file. Yes, it will work both ways. Now edit the XML file inside your folder using any text or XML editor. BTW, you can also choose Extract... instead of Copy in step 4 and browse to your new Lockheed_vega folder instead. Either way works fine. Hope this helps, Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.com
gwdoc
Hallo, tgibson_new, thanks a lot for your clear description for my problem. I tried it and it worked fine. The ADF instrument in Lockheed Vega in my FSX does the job and works as it should work. Thank you very much again for your immediate help.
