dwf2008
Why is it that when I increase the sim rate beyond 4x that the plane bounces up and down like a drunken dolphin? Is there any way to fix that? Thanks
JSkorna
Use 1X speed. Fly shorter routes. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
mrzippy
Because at the faster Sim rate, the autopilot can't keep up with the trim changes. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
PhantomTweak
That's known in the simworld as "Flipper's Disease" or the "Cummerson's Jumping Disorder". It may usually be reduced, but not eliminated, by placing a small mackerel inside the autopilot. The only problem then is that the cockpit becomes uninhabitable as the fish decays... ;) :p  Ok, ok, I am done being silly now, sorry. I just had to do it. Skippy is right, the PID controllers in the autopilot system just aren't fast enough to keep up with the constant trim changes Sims require. There are a few changes that you can make to the aircraft.cfg and .air files to reduce it, again, though, not eliminate it, but they can have other, unintended consequences, so extreme care must be taken doing that. Not overly helpful, but there it is... Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Sgt, USMC, 10 years proud service, Inactive reserve now :D

PhantomTweak
My sincerest apologies!! I hadn't had enough coffee after over-sleeping. I really shouldn't respond to threads until I am much mre awake. napamule2
Hello. Wake up. The OP is trying to fly faster than 4X while having the AP 'ON' on long flights. That is a 'No No' of course. And there is NO FIX (in cfg or air file) for that. Have another cup of java, oh 'Ghostly Mechanic' (hehe). Chuck B i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz (Turbo-Boost to 3.877 Ghz), Asus P8H67 Pro, Super Talent 8 Gb DDR3/1333 Dual Channel, XFX Radeon R7-360B 2Gb DDR5, Corsair 650 W PSU, Dell 23 in (2048x1152), Windows7 Pro 64 bit, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Joy, Logitech K-360 wireless KB & Mouse, Targus PAUK10U USB Keypad for Throttle (F1 to F4)/Spoiler/Tailhook/Wing Fold/Pitch Trim/Parking Brake/Snap to 2D Panel/View Change. PhantomTweak
oh 'Ghostly Mechanic' (hehe). Ummm, honestly, the name derived from the F-4 Phantom II + Radar Tech (Tweak in the parlance of the Corps). Nothing Ghostly about me! :D Just a retired F-4 Radar Tech, that's all. Although I DO watch the show "Supernatural" all the time :) I didn't mean to imply the effect could be elliminated, but there are ways to reduce it to a greater or lesser extent. The problem is that PID controllers are very peculiar animals, and some settings may do things one may not expect. That was all I was trying to indicate, nothing more :) But you're right. MORE COFFEE!!!! Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! dwf2008
Thanks guys. I just wondered if I had something set wrong. And WHY should I not use autopilot on a long flight and a faster sim rate? Other than the problem mentioned of course.
