Power consmption of my new system-is the PSu enough?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Recently I have been wondering about one thing. My new system is going to use the following parts.

i7-3960X

Gigabyte GTX970 OC

Asus Rampage IV Extreme

Kingston HyperX Beast XMP 16GB 1600MHz RAM

Western Digital Black 2TB HDD

Samsung 256GB 850 Pro Series SSD

Noctua NH-D15 cooling

Thermaltake Smart Series 630W PSU

Cooler Master CM690III Advanced Case

LiteOn DVD+/-RW iHAS122-14 Optical Drive

Samsung 27 inch VA Curved 1920x1080 Monitor

The question is the following:

I want to overclock my CPU, however I don't know how far I can go. With the calculated GPU and CPU usage at maximium + the power consumption of the other parts it's gonna be something about 590-600W with a slight 4.375GHz overclock. Is this safe? Or should I go down to about 4,2GHz- or even lower.

Hopefully someone has a good answer to my problem.....

How are you calculating the power use?

Assuming my CPU is gonna have a TDP of 155-160 after overclocking to about (4.0-4.2GHz) than it should be just fine.

I calculated the Power consumption with pcpartpicker (everything except CPU and GPU)

and and added the CPU and GPU power consumption under stress:

Here's the sites that I used for the power consumption tests.

Edit:

The majority of power calculators recommend a 550-560W PSU. My one's fine.
