fcoppel
Hi. I dowloaded the Tampa 3D freeware from this site, but I think I need to active it. I get big black scuares at the runways. The "Readme.txt" dont mentioned any thing about it. familton
I installed it and don't see any black squares anywhere. Did you activate it in the Scenery Library? He did leave out all the COM frequencies. They need to be added into his AFCAD. Bob.
f16jockey_2
I had the black squares as well. Dug into the bgls with Arno's MCX and found out a texture 65.dds is missing. To solve, make a simple square texture 128x128px (size doesn't matter really as long it's a 2 power) with a complete black (0,0,0) alpha and save it as 65.dds (DXT3 or DXT5). Move the file into Addon Scenery\KTPA\texture and done... @familton: looks like most of the navaids (certainly 3x ILS) are missing as well. To solve: open airport bgl with ADE, import stock data (check all except scenery objects and taxi signs). Save and recompile. Wim
familton
Thanks. It's really strange. I have no 65.dds and see no black rectangles. Also the bgl has the ILS's but did not have the COM frequencies until I added them. Bob.
ScatterbrainKid
Dunno if this gives a clue but I sometimes get black squares in the default scenery but thankfully they only last a couple of seconds before vanishing and turning into airport lights, as if FSX needs time to recognise they're lights. I have those fast black squares from the white/red lights too in the default scenery, but this are not from there. I will download it from other site and see what happen. In other way, I will try to understand what f16 said (lol) Thank you for your replays Asus Z87-Pro/ Intel Core i7 4770K 4.3 GHz/ Geforce GTX 680 2 GB/ Mem 16 GB/ Win 8.1/ ORBX

ScatterbrainKid
Try flying up to and around the black sqs to see what they look like from different angles to maybe get a clue as to what bit of scenery they're covering such as lights, runway, buildings etc.

Can you please identify the scenery object that has the missing 65.dds texture? I have no black squares and don't have the texture file. Bob. f16jockey_2
I'd rather not discuss this scenery anymore. Read some rumours (quite well founded, in fact) that the buildings are "borrowed" by the "author" from the payware FlyTampa KTPA. Hence the black squares, "incidentally" placed at the touchdown on each runway. Seems on some systems they don't show, on others they do. I feel sorry having provided a fix, as such co-operating in some kind of piracy :(. Wim

I don't support piracy either. I did not know it was pirated. Bob.

In can flight through the squares and continue flying Asus Z87-Pro/ Intel Core i7 4770K 4.3 GHz/ Geforce GTX 680 2 GB/ Mem 16 GB/ Win 8.1/ ORBX

mrzippy
Just seeing the author's name "Harry Patten" says it all! His sceneries usually have the balck squares problems! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
