Would likt to add simple autopilot gauge to older type aircraft

I have FSPS but can't find a gauge that says autopilot.

I would like someone to take the time to walk me thru adding a autopilot window to a panel.

I'm going to see if I can find one on DL library

Well that was quick..nothing listed as autopilot

It's not that easy. If an aircraft is not designed to have an autopilot, you have to enable and configure it in the aircraft.cfg. Then you can use FSPS to add the BendixKing gauges to the panel.

Spent way too much time using these sims...

FS 5.1, FS-98, FS-2000, FS-2002, FS-2004, FSX, Flight, FSW, P3Dv3, P3Dv4, MSFS

What does the bendix gauges look like, cause it sure is not called autopilot.

I scanned with FSPS and only found a autopilot switch.

I thought that FSPS edited the panel cfg when gauge was placed.

I don't need to see the autopilot just cfg as though it had one.

I have some apps linked on another computer that make it EZ to operate aircraft systems.

Fiddling with the instrument panel is to much trouble.

OOPS time for this old man to sleep.

Try this, press Z then CTRL-Z or CTRL-H to see if the airplane has autopilot. Ctrl-Z holds altitude and CTRL-H holds the heading. Every plane in the sim will act accordingly if it has autopilot. CTRL-N is like turning on the NAV switch CTRL-A is turning on the approach switch (ILS). If nothing happens the you will have to edit the aircraft's config file. All that involves is finding the autopilot section and changing the autopilot=0 to autopilot=1. This is how I fly the default DC3 and the F-18 in FSX. CTRL-R holds speed on some airplanes. Sometimes the keyboard method is easier than finding the switches on the panel.

Hello mqytn:

Its a Stinson

I have a app on another computer that allows control of ALL aircraft systems.

It is in contact with aircraft, I can start engine, turn individual light sys on off,

open close doors ect.

The autopilot window indicates no autopilot available.

Ok the aircraft does not have a autopilot radio.

The aircraft.cfg has a autopilot entry and I changed the autopilot_available=1

Still do not have autopilot control.

So what's next?...Please

I have no idea on what you're trying to achieve, in fact the less I know the better I guess.

One of your questions was for an autopilot gauge.

The one in red is the default Cessna Bendix AP (name has to be exact, including spaces, underscores, ...)

[Window01]

BACKGROUND_COLOR=2,2,2

size_mm=156,308

position=8

visible=0

ident=RADIO_STACK_PANEL

zorder=3

gauge00=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Audio, 0, 0,156,31

gauge01=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 0, 29,156,59

gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 0, 86,156,59

gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF, 0,142,156,41

gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio DME, 0,180,156,41

gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Xpndr, 0,217,156,49

gauge06=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 0,262,156,48

windowsize_ratio=1.000

window_pos=0.756,0.358

window_size=0.243,0.641

Not sure if this is of any help,

Wim

Hi

To add an Autopilot to any aircraft in FSX go to SimViation and search for "Autopilot Extra Control Panel". Download this file (Autopilot-P.zip) and install according to its instructions. This file just adds a popup panel without changing the original panel.

As noted in other posts above, you WILL also need to edit the aircraft.cfg Autopilot section to allow it to work. With some vintage aircraft you may even need to add an Autopilot section if it's not there!

Cheers

Andrew

Not exactly sure what you meant, I did a search for "autopilot and got nearly 250 results for FS2004 alone....

Worst case you can DL a panel, and "borrow" just the Autopilot portion of it. Just have to make sure the aircraft.cfg has the [Autopilot] section in it. If not, just find a plane with a good one, 757, 777 whatever, and copy the section over from it's aircraft.cfg. If you look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526949.aspx#mozTocId136011 it explains each line. Some are a tad deep into math, but I just leave them in and hope for the best.

I like to play with panel and cfg files, but iit's really not as deep and dark a secret as a lot of folks think :)

Anyway, good luck! Hope you get it!

Pat☺

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Well download "Autopilot-P.zip" per link provided by SierraPilot and install per instructions.

Check with Addit! Pro and you will see what Im talking about.

I'm thinking there is a small typo in the cab files but i can't find it.

I tried using fsps.exe to install a Bendix autopilot but that was a total disaster.

It is not needed, you can comment that line out from the panel.cfg if you wish.

If you do not want the transparency between the main AP panel and the buttons for FD, GPS, AT you can change...

Background_Color=0, 0, 0

...to...

Background_Color=2, 2, 2

you can comment that line out
apparently does not mean delete.

I googled that line to find example 270,000,000 results looked 10 all different.

I'm sorry. I don't understand that terminology.

To comment out a line is basically to leave the line there (maybe needed at a later time) what I and most people do it to put 2 slashes in front of the line so that the Sim ignores it.

//file=Autopilot_Panel.bmp

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Bought some payware aircraft and A2A Lights.

Of course installing autopilots in vintage aircraft.

Thanks all

Merry Christmas.
