Crosswind

While taking some screenshots of some of my new "Black Friday" cut rate sale scenery purchases I noticed that the viewpoint perspective of this random shot gave a near perfect illustration of a crosswind landing. I had just jumped out of the VC to take an external shot

In the shot an American Eagle ATR42 is on final to Runway 09 at Miami International (KMIA) - this is the Latin VFR FSX scenery of KMIA. I drew in some red arrows to show the motion vectors affecting the airplane.

The ATIS reported wind was from 156 at 10 knots - which was the r/w wind at KMIA at the time using the OPUS FSX weather engine. That's a 66 degree crosswind to Runway 09.

You can see the nose of the airplane is crabbed about 7-8 degrees to the right of the runway heading which exactly offset the left drift from the wind vector (right side red arrow) causing the airplane ground path to track dead center down the runway (straight ahead red arrow) - pretty cool intersection of the sim and real worlds :D
