VOR Navigation: VOR Basics, Radials, Triangulation, Reverse Sensing, and DME By thecorporatepilotdad A tutorial made by a professional pilot and former CFI to cover the basics of VOR navigation. How to use a VOR can be quite confusing to student pilots. VORs are not difficult, and this video's intent is to make VOR navigation easy with visual presentations and then flying the presentation in Microsoft Flight Simulator and covering the basics of VOR navigation. The video will start with by explaining the parts of the VOR indicator instrument then by explaining a VOR, how to find them, and how they work. How to TUNE and IDENTIFY a VOR using Morse code is demonstrated and shown in the video. VORs can be used to fly to a VOR from the present position, a desired course to or from the VOR, or a second VOR can be used to locate the aircraft's position. Radials, VOR instrument indicators, DME, Reverse Sensing, Chart Supplement, and the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, and the Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS) are demonstrated and shown. DME is not always accurate due to slant rage. This concept is visualized and demonstrated. VORs can reverse sense. This phenomenon is shown as well as how to recognize reverse sensing and how to fix it. Hi all, 1. Do all airports have DME transmitters? 2. If not, how do you tell how far your plane is from an airport? 3. How do I find out if an airport (KHAF in this case) has a DME transmitter? 4. Are all DME's standardized or functionally the same eg. range? Thank you.

Tutorial: DME Arc to ILS Approach By thecorporatepilotdad This video tutorial demonstrates a DME arc to ILS approach, flying the TBM 930 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Using Microsoft Flight Simulator, the basics of a DME arc are covered along with descriptions and how to fly a DME arc. After the DME arc is intercepted in the TBM 930, the arc is flown until the lead radial where the localizer is intercepted and the ILS is flown. Tip: To determine when to turn on to the arc, use 1 nm lead per 100 knots of speed. So, 150=1.5 nm. 1.5 miles from the arc, start the turn to intercept the arc. As always thank you to Navigraph for use of their subscription service. thecorporatepilotdad Youtube channel Navigraph About The Author This video is produced by thecorporatepilotdad.
