New Zealand's 1st Licensed Airline, Air Travel (NZ) By Frank's MS Flight Sim Much loved and respected Bert Mercer started New Zealand's first licensed airline with his De Havilland Fox Moth in 1934 servicing the rugged, west coast of NZ's South Island. His airline, Air Travel (NZ) Ltd, grew in scope and popularity, and provided valuable service during WW2. It ceased operations when subsumed by NZ's nationalization of its airlines in 1947. Mercer himself died tragically as a passenger in one of his own aircraft in 1944. Hope you find it interesting. Cheers. /images/notams/notams22/bird0720.jpgBirds simulation system featuring multilayers of birds covering all of Australia and New Zealand. No less than 65 million birds are injected by this scenery into the simulator. Multilayer system ensure that each flock of birds you come across is unique in shape; number of birds and movement. The birds start to be seen from an altitude of 60 ft (pigeons), transitioning into multilayer system up all the way to 500 m altitude above ground. Birds might show the form of big flocks, medium flocks, small flocks, or as single birds, couples or triplets. There no fixed formation; number how the birds might show in the sky; they are free to fly as they pleased. Includes following species: pigeons, geese, crows, birds of prey, seagulls. It is mostly frame rates friendly; some graphic adjustments to accommodate this scenery might be required although this package is frames rates optimized. Freeware Focus: Coromandel New ZealandBy Joshua MooreCoromandel New Zealand is one of thoseplaces you don't hear much about in flight simulation, but no longer!A beautiful piece of freeware recently caught my eye in the FlightSim.Comlibrary, and with only 420 downloads, I consider this a hidden gem! This happens to be a former payware scenery by Godzone of theCoromandel region of New Zealand, with some enhancements for fourdifferent airports in the photo-real area. The result is a stunningpiece of scenery that you can explore in amazing detail! About The SceneryCoromandel was in a line of former payware sceneries developed byRobin Corn over at Godzone scenery design and later released asfreeware. As such it is of very high quality and I found no issuesregarding blurry textures that can often be found on some photo-realsceneries. The scenery itself covers around 800 square miles instandard 4.7 meter per pixel resolution with the autogen tiling addedby Ian Warren. The airport enhancements and other adjustments includedin the package were made by Lawrie Roache, Charl du Toit, and EphramMatheson. As mentioned above, the overall scenery is of very highquality with a good amount of autogen included and accuratelyplaced. The airports themselves are not custom made, but rather aremade up of the buildings and objects found in the installedlibraries. While they aren't perfect representations of their realworld counterparts, they do look very nice and add an extra level ofimmersion! InstallationInstallation is a simple process, though a little tedious and slowdue to the amount of add-on libraries needed for it. The readmeincluded in the Coromandel download will list all the required add-onlibraries which are available to download online. Once the requiredadd-on libraries are installed, simply copy the scenery into yourFlight Simulator 2004/Addon Scenery folder and activate both thePhoto-real and Airports in your Scenery.cfg. Quick tip - the scenery libraries can be installed into AddonScenery/Scenery and Texture UNLESS stated to avoid unnecessaryscenery.cfg entries. First ImpressionsI load up my aircraft, which for today's flight is the Carenado A33Bonanza with one of my own repaints, and start off at Coromandel(NZCX) in the northwest corner of New Zealand. I depart and fly southalong the coastline to Thames Aerodrome (NZTH) on the southwest sideof the scenery. This leg of the flight has some beautiful views of thewest coast into the Firth of Thames. The mountains come right up tothe waters edge and small towns are found along the coastline (it kindof has a Hawaii feeling to it). This leg showcases the full use ofthis photo-scenery with a good mesh, which in my case, is FSGlobal2010. There are several good freeware alternatives online however ifyou do not own FSGlobal. /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-01.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-08.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-09.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-10.jpgFor the second leg I depart Thames Aerodrome to the southeastbefore making a left turn to fly east to Pauanui Beach Aerodrome(NZUN). This leg takes us over the mountains and to the eastern shoresbordering the Pacific Ocean. /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-02.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-03.jpgAfter landing at Pauanui Beach, I depart and head back north up thecoast to Whitianaga (NZWT). Flying along the coastline takes me pastseveral beaches and cliffs ending in the ocean. Before landing, I flyover Whitianaga at altitude to see how the area looks in terms of thewater, as the small rivers feed into the bay right by the airport. Theresult the scenery achieved isn't perfect, but is a limitation of FS2004and looks very nice all the same! /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-04.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-05.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-06.jpgThe last leg of the flight is a short hop back to Coromandel fromWhitianaga and there isn't too much to report for this leg, but theviews are just as stunning! /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-07.jpgFor night flying you may be slightly disappointed, as there are nonight textures included so it does get very dark. The autogen helpslighten the towns up slightly but not that much. /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-11.jpg /images/reviews/coromand/t/coromandel-12.jpgExtra Enhancements To Expand Your New Zealand FlyingAnother major component to enhance the experience is to add mesh, freeware or payware, and in my case FSGlobal 2010. The mesh took thescenery to the next level, allowing the rivers in the photo-real areasto be in their correct locations as in real life. This allowed them toflow through the valleys to the sea rather than on the sides or topsof the mountains that I found without a mesh. For this reason, and fora better overall experience, I highly recommend adding a mesh if youcan. If you are a simmer that enjoys flying airliners from largerairports, then there are a few good New Zealand airports Irecommend. One of these is Wellington Airport (also by Godzone), andAuckland Airport, both of which can be found in the file library atFlightSim.Com. Closing RemarksThis collection of sceneries allows you to explore a trulybeautiful part of this world. It is detailed, great for screen shots, and is a real joy to fly around in a small GA airplane! If you want totake a break from flying airliners, or just want to try something new, grab yourself a small airplane, and go and check out these amazingsceneries! Positives:High quality photoreal texturesAccurately placed 3D autogen and vegetationEnhanced airports with plenty of small eye candyAmazing FPS with no stuttersAuckland and Wellington close by.Negatives:Airport buildings are made up from generic objects (not custom made)No seasonal texturesNo night texturesRequires 25 add-on libraries for the full experienceMy FS2004 System:FS2004GTX1050tii7 2600k8GB DDR3 RAM WD 512GB SSDJoshua Moore Download Coromandel scenery compilation Download Auckland Airport Download Wellington

/images/notams/notams21/tabu0304/tabu0304.jpgThis Night3D package for MSFS introduces coverage for the whole ofNew Zealand. What exactly does Night3D do to enhance the MSFS lightssystem? Night3D introduces new lamps into the existing ecosystem andis designed to work together with default lights. It is designed tocreate in the nocturnal MSFS world those little details the nightbring with its darkness. /images/notams/notams21/tabu0304/new-zealand-1.jpgThe lamps are strategically positioned to illuminate buildings withemissive 3D light and reflections taking advantage of new MSFSreflective surfaces. They are designed to be just a little bit biggerthan default lights to enhance their visibility and lightness. Night3D is a not invasive scenery; it is designed to avoid lightovercrowding. Night3D targets urban areas where there are buildings;lighting up buildings and roads only in residential areas for thewhole country or US state they cover. For example, it will not addlight on motorways or major roads as MSFS is already covered. Insteadit will light up the residential roads, building courtyards, alleyways, piers, depots, to mention just a few. /images/notams/notams21/tabu0304/new-zealand-2.jpgNight3D is designed to make the most of MSFS new materials, featuring light reflections on ground, water, ice, windows, roofs orand any native MSFS material designed to reflect light. Night3D workshard at night and rests in the day when the lamps are still visiblebut in ‘Off’ mode. Night3D is strategically positioned to resemblelamp posts; we chose a shape and size to make sure it is visible foraircraft when flying over at night. Although the MSFS night world is very different than predecessorflight simulators, visibility for external 3D objects is reduced. Wemade sure as far as possible to overcome the limitation by blendingNight3D effects with default lights effect to an obvious and suddenloading of light effects.
