/images/notams/notams20/vsky0904/he162-1.jpgThe VSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot': He-162 Project v1.0 was just RELEASED! This unique project will allow to see and "feel" the He-162 in abit of a different light than the "usual" He-162 in combat flightsimulators...This project is focusing on how the He-162 actuallyworked, and how to fly and handle it in practice, in a highly definedresearch-based simulation in X-Plane 11. Coupled with X-Plane'ssophisticated Experimental flight model and VR (Virtual Reality),flying the He-162 turns into a fascinating educational andprofessional experience. /images/notams/notams20/vsky0904/he162-2.jpgUnless being flown and operated within limits (mechanically andaerodynamically), the VSKYLABS He-162 *will* blow tires, collapselanding gears, lose flying surfaces, experience engine flame-outs,engine fire, break-up and other surprises...just like its real-worldbig brother. The project is includes an original, highly detailed andillustrated He-162 Pilot's Operating Manual booklet which includesdetailed explanations regarding the He-162, its systems and how it wasoperated authentically during WWII. /images/notams/notams20/vsky0904/he162-3.jpgSource

/images/notams/notams20/vsky0521/vskylabs-1.jpgThe VSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot': He-162 Project (very short) NEWS FLASH! Wrapping up release version v1.0 is takingsooo-much-time... however: The project is now one of thehighest-priority development effort at the 'labs. All developmentelements are getting tighter and pretty soon, release version v1.0build will be locked. All of the research that was made during development (which startedin 2015!!!) is being wrapped into a very useful Pilot's OperationalHandbook. This is a very fascinating element in this projectdevelopment effort. In the screen shots - some Work-In-Progress shots of the VSKYLABSHe-162...stay tuned for more! /images/notams/notams20/vsky0521/vskylabs-2.jpg /images/notams/notams20/vsky0521/vskylabs-3.jpgSource

/images/notams/notams20/vsky0403.jpgNearly 4 years of research and on-going development has reached thepoint in time in which it is being *mature enough* to be set out inthe open! The VKYLABS 'Test-Pilot': He-162 Project is now being wrapped upwith the most important aspects of the project: the creation of thePilot Operational Handbook, which will include thorough informationregarding the He-162 and how it works from the pilot'sperspective. This project is quite different from any other VSKYLABS add-onproject for X-Plane: It is considered as "Educational", and it isfeaturing an inherent "battle" between man and machine. While the*Man* is trying to operate the machine within its operational limits,to the best of his knowledge, the *Machine* is deteriorating quiterapidly...loosing functionality and having excessive wear and tearduring a single flight, trying to replicate the result of a fast,low-quality produced 1st generation jet fighter. ...After gaining experience with it, it will make you a betterpilot, for sure! Release is closer than ever now, so stay tuned! Additional note: Entire communities all over the world are facingdifficulties, pain or other implications as a result of the COVID-19situation. VSKYLABS is wishing good health to all, and fast recoveryto who ever is facing tough times. Source Previous Update Another Previous Update

/images/notams/notams20/vsky0103/he162-1.jpgThe VSKYLABS Test-Pilot: He-162...getting into a "what if" scenario... The VSKYLABS He-162 is being tested now with a pair of RuhrstahlX-4 missiles, which were initially developed to allow firing atbombers outside of their guns range. It was a guided missile, operatedvia two wires, which fed by the pilot or aircrew using a joystick. Although it was designed to be used in single seat fighters atfirst, practical tests proved that guiding the missile during combatwas less than ideal for the pilot...so it was directed to be used inbombers or larger fighters, where there is a crew rather than a singlepilot. The He-162 A-2 was not designed originally to carry air-to-airmissiles or rockets (only two guns on board). So practically, the X-4was not an option for the He-162, at least during its basicvariants. But...it adds a bit of a "spice" to the project, a kind of a "whatif" option...and opens the door for other, more acceptable weaponssuch as the R4M rockets...(but that's for another post...). Here are a few screen shots showing it is some action. The small, shiny ventral pod seen attached to the He-162 belly is an experimentalJATO (Jet Assisted Takeoff) installation, which is documented in theHe-162 files. /images/notams/notams20/vsky0103/he162-2.jpg /images/notams/notams20/vsky0103/he162-3.jpgSource

/images/notams/notams19/vsky1216/he162-1.jpgThis fascinating project development journey has started back in 2015(!) The purpose of this project is to introduce the He-162 along withits authentic systems, operating nuances and characteristics, replicating it as close as possible to the real He-162. Developmentapproach is in many aspects educational, and it will be reflected inthe POH. The research involved in this project has accumulated into years ofdevelopment. Obtaining and translating original and authenticmaterials, manuals, photos, drawings, reports... into a livingaircraft simulation in X-Plane, was the deepest challenge. It scheduled as a VSKYLABS 2019 release, but it was put on hold toallow a few research-related issues to be resolved. The project, which is already in a very advanced development stageswill get back on the development tracks during January 2020. /images/notams/notams19/vsky1216/he162-4.jpg /images/notams/notams19/vsky1216/he162-2.jpg /images/notams/notams19/vsky1216/he162-3.jpgSource

/images/notams/notams19/vsky0820/vsky0820.jpgAttached is a video showing some action from the initial VRsessions, while testing various systems, including the mechanicallanding gear indicators (nose wheel - red bar in the upper nose cone, main gear - two mechanical pointers, one on each side of thecockpit), landing gear deployment (release) handle and retract lever, flaps hand-pump (which is semi-automatic in the video) and more. Significant progress was made during the past several weeks in theBMW-003 engine (including its adjustable nozzle modes) simulation. TheBMW-003 operational envelope was finally "tailored" to sustain itselfin the various modes of nozzle operation, throttle operation, flightspeed and altitude, angle of attack, in-flight idle rpm and thrust forthe speed/altitude gradient. The adjustable nozzle in the BMW-003/He-162 is of an adjustablebell-form construction, allowing variable nozzle area presets, to beset manually by the pilot, according to the phase of flight (enginestart, high altitude, high speed, etc.). It is noted in the attachedscreen shot by the red arrows pointing at the adjustable nozzle and itson-fuselage position painted markings. /images/notams/notams19/vsky0820/he162.jpgWhen all of the above is being orchestrated by X-Plane...flying theHe-162 becomes a true challenge! This will be discussed thoroughly infuture posts and in the project's page at VSKYLABS website. The project is currently scheduled for release in late 2019. Source

/images/notams/notams18/vsky1101/he162-1.jpgBack in 2015 VSKYLABS envision a "Test-Pilot" Project series andannounced it in 2017. Two of the projects in the series have struggledbut they've announced progress on another one, with some pictures ofthe HE-162. /images/notams/notams18/vsky1101/he162-2.jpgThe real Heinkel He 162 Volksjager was entered in the WWIIEmergency Fighter Program design competition.
