Telluride XPPublisher: TaburetReview Author: Patrick PutlendSuggested Price: $14.95/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-06.jpgInitial DetailsTelluride airport is located inColorado in San Miguel county. The runway is on a plateau and stilldips slightly in the center, although the dip was more pronouncedprior to a renovation in 2009. It can be a challenging but beautifulapproach for pilots. This scenery for X-Plane includes a newphotographic texture for ground coverage, a sloped runway at theairport, plus full autogen. RequirementsX-Plane 11Windows 7/8/10 (64 bit) or MacProcessor 2.4 GHz or fasterRAM: 8 GB3D graphics card with 1024 MB VRAM1.35 GB hard drive space /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-02.jpg /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-03.jpgAfter installing the 6 different scenery packages, I looked furtherto see if there was any type of documentation associated with thepackage. Unfortunately, the only piece of documentation I could findwas the "description.txt" file, which was simply the same as the storedescription. This was a shame, because I would have liked to have seensome real world documentation included! Initial LookInstalling the scenery was troublesome, as I had to play aroundwith the scenery load order many times before I got it to work. Thescenery load order that is given to you upon purchase does not workwhen dealing with other 3rd party add-ons. Installing the scenery intoa vanilla install of X-Plane was a little easier, but with add-onsalready installed...it was challenging! Once successfully installed, I loaded up the sim ready for myflight from KTEX. However, upon loading, I was very surprised to seethat there was no KTEX airport scenery, just the default sceneryincluded with X-Plane! /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-01.jpgI rechecked my install so as to make sure I had followed thecorrect procedures, and I had. Personally, I found this verydisappointing, not only because the developer did not include theairport scenery, but also because there was no mention that theairport was 'not' included. Now aware that the scenery package wasonly for the surrounding areas and terrain mesh, it would be nice ifthe developer could add a line to his description mentioning that noairport scenery is included. Still, not to be beaten, I downloaded afreeware scenery to put over the Taburet Telluride package. Thisprovided me with a much more realistic scenery than before. However, for the purpose of this review, this scenery was not included. Scenery WalkaroundAs mentioned previously, the scenery does not include any custom 3Dmodeled buildings of the airport. What it does have though, are a fewOpenSceneryX objects. And while it's good to see something, they don'treally mimic the real airport in any way. Next I took a look around the outskirts of KTEX, and then beyondthe airport. This is where I saw a vast improvement in regards to 3Dmodeling. The entire town of Telluride was modeled, and I was veryhappy to see that almost all of the town's buildings were placedaccurately. Of course, the buildings don't mimic their real worldcounterparts, but they do look authentic when flying around. /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-04.jpg /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-05.jpgIn terms of quality, the buildings are not the best, but they getthe job done when flying into the airport. The buildings do notfeature any of X-Plane 11's wonderful lighting and reflectioncapabilities, which in my mind is a real shame, as the approach intoTelluride would look even more spectacular with nightlighting. Overall, the landscape of Telluride was done well, and looksvery authentic and populated when flying over in the daytime. Overall Score: City Modelling: 8/10 Airport modeling: 2/10 Vegetation was another aspect of the scenery which I felt was verywell done. When coupled with the included orthophotos, the vegetationlooked amazing, and extremely accurate, as all trees and forests wereaccurately placed. This gave the scenery a very realistic feel whendeparting and arriving in the valley. They do not have HD textures, but are still done with care and attention. I really like how thedeveloper paid attention to the detail of the vegetation. Overall score: 9/10 /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-09.jpgThe most exciting part of this scenery is the included custommesh. This makes the approach extremely realistic in terms ofelevation. The elevations are very authentic, and replicate the realworld terrain this airport is known for. The mesh is of high quality, and I couldn't find any issues with it. Overall score: 9/10 The main airport was devoid of custom taxiway or runway textures(default X-Plane textures used), which I found to be adisappointment. However, around Telluride the photographic scenerylooks really good in X-Plane 11. The resolution is not UHD or even HD,but it still gives the scenery great detail and realism. When flyingan approach, the photoreal scenery is a really nice feature. Ofcourse, as with the case when using orthos, the lower you go, theworse the resolution becomes! The area covered is extremely large, andis one of the best features of the package. The vegetation and citybuildings line up perfectly to the photoreal scenery, and the onlyreason I deduct points, is because the images do not have a highresolution. Overall score: 7/10 /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-10.jpg /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-11.jpgWhen exploring an X-Plane scenery for the first time, I am alwaysexcited to see how the night ambiance is modeled, and Telluride was noexception (especially with the town being present). However, I soonbecame aware that the scenery didn't use X-Plane's HDR lightingfeature. The only element of lighting included, were the buildingswhich happened to have 'lit' features, and that wasn't very many! Intruth, I was not impressed at all by the night ambiance, as the townlooked pretty much dead at night, and not really a reflection of itsreal life counterpart. Overall score: 6/10 SummaryAfter reviewing this scenery, I came to the conclusion, that anupdate was desperately needed; especially if it was to match thequality of many current X-Plane sceneries. The fact that KTEX was notmodeled at all, and that this was not mentioned on the purchase pagewas a real disappointment. On a more positive note, some of the modeling around the town wasgreat, but don't expect to see any custom buildings. The groundtextures, mesh and vegetation were also done really well, and wereperhaps my three favorite aspects of the scenery (well done to thedeveloper). /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-07.jpg /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-08.jpgTo sum up, flying in and out of this airport is really fun! Iwould recommend purchasing this package, as long as you download, orhave an airport scenery to go along with it.Overall score: 6/10 Pros:Realistic satellite imageryExtremely realistic placement of vegetationRich autogen for Telluride and surrounding areasExtremely realistic HD custom elevation mesh /images/reviews/teluride/t/Taburet-Telluride-12.jpgCons:No airport scenery (need to download your own)Satellite imagery is blurry at low altitudesNight ambiance is below par compared to default X-Plane sceneryTown buildings are not customOpenSceneryX is requiredInstallation can be complicated if you have any other 3rd party add-ons/images/reviews/teluride/TAB-2120-telluride-xp.jpgPatrick Putlend Purchase Taburet - Telluride for X-Plane 11 Also available for Aerofly FS 2
